Karen Elson

Karen Elson's debut album, The Ghost Who Walks, comes out on Third Man/XL this summer.

While this album marks Karen's solo debut, she has spent 6 years as a founding member of New York City-based political cabaret The Citizens Band and has been involved in several musical projects over the past few years, including adding her vocals to tracks for Robert Plant and recording a duet with Cat Power for a Serge Gainsbourg tribute album ("Je Taime Moi Non Plus"). The Ghost Who Walks was recorded at Third Man Studios in Tennessee with [Elson's husband & record label head] Jack White as producer and features 12 songs - 11 original compositions by Karen and 1 cover of a song by her Citizens Band cohort Rachelle Garniez.
An acoustic live version of the record's first single, "The Ghost Who Walks," is posted below.

A full version of the song will be released on 7" on March 17th. One of the places you can get it is the Third Man Records pop-up store coming to SXSW/Austin, where she'll be playing. Third Man ran a pop-up store in New York City last July, where the Dead Weather played. Her schedule for the fest is below.

She'll also be at NYC's (Le) Poisson Rouge on Monday, March 22nd. Tickets are on sale.

Hmmm...in the promotional photographs for her new record, she looks a lot like a betrothed Detroit woman that Jack White was fond of and worked with and was rumored by some to have had a something with...

seriously, other than jack white who listens to this dreck.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2010 11:27 PM

What so terrible about it Mr. Dreck? If this woman wasn't a model I don't think she'd be met with as much derision. Anyone who is into the female singer/songwriter thing would probably enjoy it.

this girl fucked gold.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 1:11 AM

this sounds like every single song sung by every single girl with an acoustic guitar at every coffee shop open mic night in the world.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 1:34 AM

She actually sounds good...the fact that she's a supermodel and is married to one of the most influential characters in rock just rubs salt in the wound. Deal with it.

cranes called they want their guitar riff back.

Posted by eeko mouse | March 5, 2010 3:27 AM

There is nothing original about this chick. blanche called and they want their look back.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 3:39 AM

She has that creepy doll look

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 6:02 AM

She let me finger her once in high school. I didn't wash that hand for a month.

Posted by secksfiend | March 5, 2010 6:41 AM

This is just like Rachel Ray getting Stubb's so her Husband's band can have somewhere to play

Who cares!!! My boyfriend thinks the same with me. He- is eight years older than me, lol. We met online at- A_ge_m_i_n_g_le @ c-o--m a nice and free place for Younger- Women and Older Men, or Older Women and Younger Men, to- interact with each other. Farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrttt!

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 10:37 AM

I totally agree...she has completely Stolen her look and sound from Blanche…but not in a good way :(

being an ex model turned bored housewife has everything to do with it. her voice is ordinary and her "look" contrived. Stating the obvious, being married to jack white is the only reason such mundane crap goes to the top of the heap.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 2:16 PM

Who cares? I'm going just to stare at her. With a chick like that...how can jack white not be inspired to write great music?

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 5:59 PM

hey dumbass its called walking with a ghost.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 6:01 PM

Maybe you should wait until the album version is released before you judge. By the way, how many other musicians looks are contrived? I'm tired of seeing that criticism on so many indie blogs because the indie world has more contrived looking bands and artists than anyone else in the music industry.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 7:29 PM

Prince called, he wants that guitar back.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2010 2:49 AM

why would she even do SXSW? all Jack White has to do is make a phone call and she has everything instantaneously, a record deal, tour dates and venues. this pretentious crap is obnoxious.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2010 3:01 AM

Her voice is average. The song is monotonous with trite lyrics and has no hooks. She does look just like Tracee Miller in that photo. And why does she look dead on the album cover? Weird.

Posted by Brian | March 6, 2010 9:11 PM

Wait until the fucking album version people when there are more instruments and some flourish. Jeez.

She looks dead because she's supposed to be the girl that was murdered in the song.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2010 10:32 PM

way to go and make millions promoting anorexia.
thats why she loooks dead.

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2010 2:26 AM

We don't want no F'ing anorexics. Go F off.

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2010 2:38 AM
