"The worst group in history just finished on stage at the Fader Fort, Sleigh Bells." - Daniel Berkal

"Sleigh Bells just blew the doors off the Fader Fort" - Enthusiastic Amateur

Sleigh Bells

"M.I.A.-anointed Sleigh Bells closed the showcase with their bombastic drum-and-bass combination, a live show that's growing leaner, tighter and stronger, like a prizefighter before a big payday. Alexis Krauss, Sleigh Bells' frontwoman, is just soaked in superstar potential. She screams, coos, pumps her fist, snaps her head back in the "sexy-lady-moshing" style Sophie described earlier this week. Though the band is just Krauss and guitarist Derek Miller, they sound massive on songs like "A/B Machines," "Crown on the Ground" and "Infinity Guitars." With cred in tow, Sleigh Bells' spring release should be one of the year's most anticipated records." [Time Out]
The review is from the Pitchfork show Sleigh Bells played at SXSW. The pictures are from the Fader Fort where they went on right before Bone Thugs n Harmony!

I previously posted that "M.I.A. is playing NYC & LA Hard Fests & Oya (lineup), co-releasing the new Sleigh Bells". An update to that is that Sleigh Bells are opening the NYC show which is taking place at South Island Field @ Governors Island on Saturday, 7/24, 5pm. Blaqstarr, 12th Planet, Destructo, Nguzunguzu, Borgore & more" are also on the "Hard" bill. "$40 Pre-Sale Tickets / $45 Limited Advance Tickets / $55 Advance & Day of Show Tickets + $5 Round Trip Ferry Fee for all tickets". On Sale Fri 3/26 at 12:00PM. More pictures from Fader, and a video, below....

woah, don't want to seem ignorant here... but do my eyes deceive me?
~$50 to see M.I.A.?
what is the world coming to?

"like a prizefighter"
"sound massive"
"cred in tow"

That Time Out writer should just commit suicide now.

this band should be called "Fresh Guacamole" better enjoy them now before the shit turns brown....... no shelf life on these trendy d-bags

Posted by Anonymous | March 22, 2010 4:39 PM

Alison Krauss >>>>>>>> Alexis Krauss

Posted by Anonymous | March 22, 2010 4:40 PM

Aphrica: And at least 6 other performers.. This is a small festival, not just M.I.A. show (if it was, I'd be concerned about the price too)

They have an iPod backing band. All of these Nintendo Wii games (Guitar Hero, Rockband, etc) have negatively influenced what at one point could have been 'rock n roll'. Evidenced here and with the ever-popular stand up drummers.

I think I'm gonna have to check out Sleigh Bells simply base on what a creep that Berkal character appears to be

Man 4:39 and Will hit 2 nails directly on the head. Yeah I admit some of their songs/riffs etc are catchy but this is sooooo "of the moment" what happens when that moment is inevitably over? Also, I'm sorry but her stage moves are awkward and somewhat contrived NOT as the Time Out Writer puts it "sexy lady moshing"...more like moderately attractive girl trying too hard.

comparing drummers that happen to standup (OH HEAVENS!) to iPods? dipshit...

i'll agree with you that some corners have been cut with bands playing live compared to your grandpappy's day - but most (not all, but a majority vs previous minority) of large bands use some form of backing track / samples.

Posted by Anonymous | March 22, 2010 7:02 PM

So some American Apparel reject "raps" over a distorted "Close To Me" (Cure) riff, and a guitarist plays a retarded Lil Wayne-esque lead over an iPod. Pitchfork approves this shit and y'all lap it up. Idiots.

Posted by None of your fucking business | March 22, 2010 7:17 PM

Does anybody realize that this guitarist was in Poison the Well? He's got sick riffs.

I dunno, I still like Heaven 17 better.

Posted by Anonymous | March 23, 2010 1:00 AM

listen to more of their stuff, y'all. they got spunk. they got spirit. they got fire. they haven't even released a CD or signed to a label yet, give 'em a break.

Sounds like a more-accessible Atari Teenage Riot with a female singer. ?!

Posted by t_rolling | March 29, 2010 5:28 PM

Sleigh Bells is playing a show @ Coco 66 on May 7th w/ MNDR and it's only $10.

I don't like them very much. I thought they will perform better.

Posted by Benjamin Stevens | June 24, 2010 12:33 PM

Nah they're suck big time. This project will last for one or two years maybe.

Posted by Simon | June 25, 2010 7:58 AM

The girl is sooo hot. I like it very much!

My cousin was at the Sleigh Bells concert some months ago. He said the music was not that good, but the show and the singer really impressed him...

So probably they ain't that bad.

if you have an old browswer, the redesign doesn't allow for easy viewing. all text gets shifted to the left and overflows on the green gradient.
