After three decades together, the church return to North America for a special 30th anniversary acoustic tour throughout April and May 2010. "An Intimate Space" will include songs that span the length of the church's epic creative trip from their debut in 1980 to their latest critically acclaimed 2009 album "Untitled # 23".The Church where last here in 2009. They played a July show at Irving Plaza with Adam Franklin. The sole NYC date on the Australian psych-pop vets' upcoming tour is at a considerably more (as advertised) intimate venue. It happens April 22nd at City Winery. Tickets (each of which come with a copy of the band's Deadman's Hand EP) are on sale.In a unique and unusual execution, the band will choose one song from each of their considerable album releases and perform them in reverse chronological order. This original show will have the audience gliding softly down through the years, opening with a track from "Untitled #23" before embarking on a fantastic voyage through time ultimately arriving at their first Australian album, "Of Skins And Heart" where it all began.
They also play Bay Shore, Long Island's Boulton Center for the Performing Art the next night (4/23) - tickets for that are on sale too.

absolutely one of the most creative, compelling and relevant bands still making music. i've seen them half a dozen times, both electric and acoustic, and they are phenomenol live. and their recordings just keep getting better and better.
when i think of the schlock from the same era that passes for music (u2 for example) i am saddened that a band such as the church have never realized their commercial due. but that's usually the way it is with geniuses of the art world (such as van gogh or nick drake).
i had tix to see elvis costello (for the 82nd time) the same night they're playing in bayshore. picking the church was a no-brainer.

what a stupid idea, who cares for your recent albums? give us greatest hits only show.
and acoustic? just to save on production and make
more money on it.

Anyone ever taken in a show at City Winery? Their website is somewhat helpful in figuring out viewing lines from each seat but some more input would be appreciated. I'd like to get a cheap seat but want to make sure I won't regret it. Also, is there any sort of drink minimum?

Have you even heard the new album, 1:35? It's awesome. Stop being such an obvious doosh.

It is loud in City Winery and hard to hear the band sif you are in the back between the glasses clinking and waitress etc walking in and out of the tables! Get a seat upfront if you go or at least in the middle

Sweet. I love this band. Just picked up tix for the Norfolk show. Trying to figure out what song they are going to play from each album. I have acoustic mp3s of Almost With You, Metropolis, and some others that are just outstanding. I think by default you would think they'd play Under the Milky Way from Starfish, but there is an acoustic version of Hotel Womb on You Tube that is fricking amazing. Maybe they'll play 2 from Starfish.

perhaps one of the most underrated bands in recent memory. only a tool would say play a greatest hits show and only do it electric. these are smaller intimate venues this amazing band is playing in. their next electric tour, doing Starfish and Untitled #23 in their entirety will be unbelievable.

The acoustic show was misleading. They were not playing just acoustic guitars/bass.... they played electric, mandolin, piano, etc
The stage at city winery was amazing, the sound mics picked up everything and blasted it through the monitor system. It sounded amazing..not a weak wimpy acoustic show. It rocked.
