The National recording the new record...
The National

The National's new record will be called High Violet, and it'll come out May 11th on 4AD. Way sooner than that, the band is heavily rumored to be playing two last minute surprise shows in Brooklyn. The dates are Thursday (3/11) and Friday (3/12) at the Bell House. Tickets may even go on sale today at noon.

The National previously announced a show at Prospect Park in July with Beach House opening and a show at Radio City Music Hall in June. Before that, the band will be playing scattered shows around the country (and in Europe). Those include Big Ears Fest at the end of March, Sasquatch in May and Bonnaroo in June. All tour dates and video from their SummerStage show back in August of 2008 are below...

The National - Fake Empire - Central Park Summerstage - 8.4.08

shhh.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:03 AM

will the mercury be selling tix?

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:04 AM

why would the mercury be selling tix? this isn't BP.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:05 AM

Tickets are going to be $75 on account of it being an intimate venue. They'll play 1 song they've never played live before though, so it'll totally be worth it.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:10 AM

Would everyone please wait until 12:05 to buy their tickets so I can definitely buy mine?

Posted by Dan | March 8, 2010 11:10 AM

Twisted, yet sophisticated Ethan Lipton opening the Thursday show.

Tickets are $20

For anyone that's been to the Bell House....is the time listed on their website the door time or when the first band goes on....

For both dates, the time is at 8pm....

and it looks like there is an opener for each night....

so...wht time do you think the National will hit the stage both nights?

8pm-Door?
9pm-First band?
10pm-The National?

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:32 AM

21+?bull.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:39 AM

21+ .... sweet!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:41 AM

Prospect Park is all ages, pretty sure that'll cure all your ills, kids.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:42 AM

Thank god these tickets are 21+.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:47 AM

Buke and Gass are opening the Friday show.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:48 AM

Already sold out! This is Bullshit!!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:48 AM

11:32 - I'd expect the opener at 9, National at 10. If you call the box office the evening of the show (after 5:30) they usually have set times. they're not always good about answering the phone though.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:49 AM

no it's not 11:48. not on sale yet. save your freakout for 10 minutes from now when they both sell out in .6 seconds.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:50 AM

It's not already sold out, numbnuts, it's not even on sale yet. Plus, of course it will sell out in one minute, are you delusional?

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:50 AM

7 minutes until everyone freaks out about not being able to get tickets, and then shit-talking the National and Bell House as a result.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:53 AM

Ticketweb site just crashed. Fun.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 11:59 AM

fucking waiting rooms!

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:00 PM

got one for friday. that was painless.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:00 PM

sold out

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:04 PM

Not even on sale yet as of 1205!

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:04 PM

the fuck... i clicked the link to buy 2 seconds after 12 and after processing for 2 minutes, it told me that tix aren't on sale yet. Now it's sold out

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:04 PM

i can only get waiting rooms!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:06 PM

there was something weird with the ticketweb website. on firefox, it said the tickets weren't on sale yet. with ie, i was able to buy tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:06 PM

how long am I supposed to wait in the waiting room?

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:07 PM

Until it is sold out!

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:07 PM

Got 2 for both Thursday & Friday. Will be accepting sexual favors in exchange for the extra ticket on each night. Guys or gals. I'm not picky.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:08 PM

Got one for Friday too! Holy shit I'm seeing my favorite band in 4 days!

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:08 PM

I generally like TicketWeb because I don't have to pay more in "convenience fees" than I did for the ticket itself, unlike Ticketmaster and LiveNation, but the website really is pretty crappy and confusing. Sigh -- guess I'll just have to watch them from 2 miles away in the upper balcony of RCMH like everyone else.

Regardless of how bad the website is, it's still cool that they're playing a great venue like Bell House.

Posted by Thierry Ennui | March 8, 2010 12:08 PM

Got mine for Friday

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:08 PM

oh well... at least i already have pretty sweet seats to RCMH.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:08 PM

I don't understand how people got tickets to both shows. Can't even get past the waiting room.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:09 PM

Sold out..

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:10 PM

that sucked,....

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:10 PM

froze up for me and by the time it went through at 12:03, they were gone

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:11 PM

You all do realize that this is one of those haven't-played-live-in-a-while-and-need-to-rehearse-before-hitting-the-road-for-real type of shows, right? They'll probably stumble their way sloppily through 5 or 6 songs and that'll be it.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:12 PM

This is the time to get them. When the first round of people have their tickets kicked back into the inventory because they never completed the deal. Go now!

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:12 PM

flooded and crashed. both nights. I'd like to think it was net-savy ticket sharks firing on all cylinders to get their scalping on, but it may just as well have been all real fans going for it - this band is both THAT popular and still technically under the radar (I don't know how hip those ticket scalpers are).

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:13 PM

are they just will call or are they doing "print out" tickets?

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:13 PM

idiots. still on sale.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:15 PM

just got one..keep refreshing

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:15 PM

Total bullshit. Since ticketmaster and ticketweb just straight up rob everyone with their so called convenience charges, they should at least make sure their web sites can handle the traffic when popular events go on sale. There is nothing convenient about what they do. Buying tickets online from them is one of the most stressful things you can do. At 12:00 - 12:04 i kept getting a screen that said tickets weren't on sale until 12, when it was clearly after 12. Then at 12:05 I got the screen saying no tickets were available. I literally did not even have the chance to try for tickets. Fix your shit assholes.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:15 PM

Wow what a bunch of bullshit. Thanks Ticketweb for making me wait in line and telling me not to re-load the page. It was really helpful because after about 3 minutes of waiting, I re-loaded the page to find out they were sold out.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:16 PM

keep refreshing. iphone worked- computer didnt, blackberry didnt. COPPED BOTH SHOWS!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:16 PM

are they just will call or are they doing "print out" tickets?

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:17 PM

"They'll probably stumble their way sloppily through 5 or 6 songs and that'll be it."

5 or 6 songs... you're funny. I saw St. Vincent play a secret show at the Bell House last year and she played an hour and a half.

I love how I just paid $24 and I'll be three feet away from the band- I'm happy I passed on RCMH.

Posted by Venkman | March 8, 2010 12:19 PM

thanks 12:15

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:21 PM

Got them for Thursday. Nice to see them at a smaller venue because Radio Shitty is just way too big and too seated to see The National for my taste

Posted by Cory | March 8, 2010 12:21 PM

Just got one for Thu. Keep refreshing.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:22 PM

I'd just like to inform everyone that I have pretty sweet seats to RCMH.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:22 PM

I already got 2 for Thursday right at 12. I just got 1 for Friday's show. Keep trying, people.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:24 PM

got through for a pair at 12:17 for a pair. thanks to the comments above for making me not give up.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:25 PM

website still won't load on any firefox here - yet it loads over and over on my blackberry. fuck you ticketweb.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:26 PM

am I wasting my time refreshing the site? did this really sell out that quick.
fuck

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:30 PM

Sold out

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:31 PM

12:30 i'd keep trying

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:32 PM

It tells me there are tickets available for the 11th but then it says "No tickets available through Ticketweb. Tickets MAY be available at the door." when I click the buy link. Bahhhh.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:33 PM

i just called they said they closed the tickets for both shows and that they generally dont release tickets the day of the show

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:38 PM

not true....just pulled up 2 but i think they got nabbed by someone else....they are a few floating around, i'll bet

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:40 PM

12:08 - Will a BJ or HJ suffice?

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:41 PM

I heard Sufjan is playing a song with them. Now I'm really glad I got tickets!

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:41 PM

I hear Joey Ramone is playing a song with them. Now I'm really glad I got tickets!

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:42 PM

Will trade many Cheeseburger tickets for 1 National ticket

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 12:49 PM

Fucking nonsense. Can't believe how shitty Ticketweb is.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 1:02 PM

who is opening these shows?

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 1:21 PM

WTF does The National offer a Twitter-Feed and Email updates, both of which I've stupidly signed up for, and then not announce shows like these via those channels?

Posted by lp | March 8, 2010 3:19 PM

i agree, it's shitty that you have to find out about these shows on vegan and no mention of it on the band's channels. fans should get the info first.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 3:21 PM

The band were the ones who announced this. Weren't they?

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 3:24 PM

No, I don't think they announced this.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 3:28 PM

I never got an email from the band and I'm on their mailing list. Got another email from them today... but no mention of these gigs.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 3:34 PM

Gothamist.com mentioned it last week.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 3:57 PM

gothamist mentioned it last week. the bell house site and ticketweb both had it earlier today, before the sale.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2010 4:17 PM

its' nice that gothamist or bell house site mentioned it. But, if I sign up for a given band's mailing list, shouldn't I get notified when they are playing new shows in my home town? Frankly, I cant think of anything more relevant.

The National have a mailing list, website and twitter feed ... and all I get is a freakin heads-up about a new Clogs album. That's really weak.

Posted by lp | March 9, 2010 2:42 PM

^
that speaks volumes about how they view their home fanbase.

Posted by Anonymous | March 9, 2010 3:48 PM

to be fair to them there was a royal screw up with the ticketing for their London show at the Royal Albert Hall (5,000 tickets gone in less than 10 minutes only for a whole bunch of them to immediately resurface on secondary ticket seller websites at 4 times face value). there was a total shitstorm on the national's forum and so when they announced a second date at the electric ballroom (much smaller venue) they sent out the link to tickets to registered message board members only.

nice touch but it still sucks for those that missed out!

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 11:51 AM

what were the set times last night?

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2010 10:30 AM

Opener went on at 9:00 and played until roughly 9:40. National hit the stage at 10:15 (though Bell House claimed they were supposed to start at 9:45) and played until roughly 11:50.

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2010 10:37 AM

They do announce shows to fans first via on their forum's message board.

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2010 10:58 PM

Come home. Cincinnati misses you.

Posted by Anonymous | March 13, 2010 10:41 AM

So? Are the tickets sold out or not yet? Tell me please.

Posted by Hipolito | June 24, 2010 12:28 PM

Woohoo! I bought two tickets on July 27 in New York. Who's going with me?

Posted by Kevin | June 25, 2010 7:29 AM

I have been several days ago at the party held at Prospect Park Brooklyn, New York and it was something crazy!!! I wish i could go again!

Posted by Sandra Olive | July 2, 2010 3:23 PM

Most parties in Prospect Park are off the chain.

Posted by John B | October 8, 2010 12:26 PM

Great videos, especially the second one

Posted by mark | October 20, 2010 12:40 PM

Loved the vid's thank for the post.

Posted by Car Insurance | November 2, 2010 8:26 AM

The National is a fantastic band however only just found them recently. Damn no tours near me..

Posted by Insurance Quotes | November 2, 2010 6:24 PM

I think I had about the announcement somewhere about their album. also want to know when the ticket will be on sale

Posted by marks | November 4, 2010 4:46 PM

Guggenheim billed it as a performance piece and it was just an installation. Resultingly, the crowd simply waited for the "show" to start, limiting anyone's ability to freely explore the space (the ground floor was packed with indian-style seaters, and the balconies were lined with people holding onto their spots like grim death.

Posted by منتديات | January 9, 2011 12:54 PM

I recently saw the National Performance on Youtbe - pretty impresed by the band, will visit one of their live acts soon.

Posted by Parfum Fan | January 15, 2011 7:11 AM

it makes no sense for them to deconstruct the entire TD North venue to play a show the next night ~50 miles south at an amphitheater (which probably would require a different stage setup anyway). They'd play Providence or Mohegan Sun before that (and I think those are both highly unlikely).
