Twin Sister

Twin Sister just posted the entirety of their new Color Your Life EP as a free download on their website. The EP which comes out in physical form in May on Infinite Best, was reviewed today in Pitchfork, scoring a 7.5:

Twin Sister's singer, the mousily enchanting Andrea Estella, has the sort of breathy, committed voice that untangles knots. It sits all over the mix on Color Your Life, a significant, if not monumental leap forward for the band. Sometimes Estella is high up, as on "Milk & Honey", a wrenching ballad about what so many of their songs are about: the promise of love and the confusing moments at the beginning and end of every relationship. It's a gorgeous song that quakes and quivers before abruptly ending. The respite is brief before they sharply enter the best thing they have done to date. "All Around and Away We Go" is a magical thing, driving and relaxed at once.
I've described them before as Sade meets the Cocteau Twins and I think you can hear that on the EP. You can also download a couple tracks off Color Your Life at the top of this post. The band just got back from SXSW, where they played one of our day parties, which I think treated them pretty well. Don't be surprised if they're in The L Magazine's annual "8 NYC Bands You Need to Hear" issue, which is out tomorrow. And you can hear them live this Thursday (4/1) at Glasslands where they play with Holiday Shores (who play with Love of Diagrams one day later at Santos) and Ocotillo.

Twin Sister were fantastic both times I've seen them. They'll also be opening a few dates for Xiu-Xiu and Tune-Yards, including April 9 at Bowery Ballroom, a bill that also has Zola Jesus (who played our same party at SXSW) on it. Tickets still on sale. All tour dates are below...

white hipster scum from long island go away

Posted by Anonymous | March 31, 2010 11:45 AM

why you gotta be racist about it? asian hipster scum from long island is allowed to stay? what about saphardic jew hipster scum? i would think that hipster scum is a color blind situation, mostly cause of the scum factor. i really don't like scum no matter if it's hipster, dorky, corporate, white, or black.

Who gives a sh-t about piercings? Or what people in bands are wearing/drinking/eating. What happened to closing your eyes and listening? If you don't like the music, you don't like the music. Fine. Including your thoughts on their appearance or origin only makes you sound like an ass.

Wonderful post and the location is beautiful and elegant in design and information and everything>>> to Favorites
Amazing is an enormous understatement. One of the best electronic shows I've ever been to and I've seen well over a thousand concerts. I had no idea Vladislav Delay was as good a drummer & percussionist as he is- fabulous and he kept everything swinging with a very unique style of playing. If you missed this you missed out big time...
