“[Tuesday] night’s show at the Mohawk – part of the closing-night send-off for the interactive portion of [SXSW] -was stellar. At least, I think it was. I’m having a hard remembering most of it, to be honest. I lay the blame for this firmly upon the decidely miserable margaritas we had two nights ago at the East Crowley, LA branch of Chili’s on the drive out to Texas. Laughably billed as “The World’s Freshest Margarita,” these margs were ranked uniamously as the worst we’d ever had, and just edged out Chris’s house salad for the title of “Foulest Item Ever.” Consequently, when we arrived in Austin, we were desperate for a margarita crafted by a mixologist possessed of a reverence for the beverage, who understood how to draw out the nuances of the flavor, and who would never, ever use dishwashing soap for color. The bartender at the Mohawk satisfied at least that last directive, and, so, the membership of WAS crushed margarita after precious margarita in the hours leading up to the show. The resulting performance was described by our dear friends The Whigs (new album, In The Dark, out yesterday!) as “rambunctious,” and by Rolling Stone photographer Candice Lawler as “pretty rambunctious.”. Job done, We Are Scientists! -Keith” [We are Scientists]
