I can't believe I didn't score National tix. I was completely on it at noon. How many fraking people read BV??? The announcement of the show only arrived 45 minutes before the tix went on sale.
Scoring tix to shows has always been competitive, but those in the know, always used to have an advantage. These days, it seems that there are no longer any advantages. Everyone knows about pre-sales days before they occur. Everyone knows to read BV to obtain on sale info. Heck, I think BV knew about these National shows before the National or the Bell House knew about them.

I spoke with someone at the Bell House last night and they said that they are fully booked for the National...afraid that its gonna be overbooked. So not even worth trying to go down. Plus they are gonna keep the bar closed to public during show.
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 11:37 AM
I knew about this show 4 days before it went onsale, and i still didn't get tickets. Total bummer.
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 11:38 AM
Conan @ Radio City tix are on sale! They already added a second date.
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 11:41 AM
Scenesters, press, business associates and friends before fans, apparently. So it goes. Thought The National was better than that though.
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 11:43 AM
Anyone knows what time Magnetic Fields start playing tonight, or what time they started playing last night? Thanks!

"Thought The National was better than that though."
...you're lame. the band didn't stop this fan from getting tickets on-line. plenty of people did.

>>>I spoke with someone at the Bell House last night and they said that they are fully booked for the National...afraid that its gonna be overbooked. So not even worth trying to go down. Plus they are gonna keep the bar closed to public during show.
What are you talking about? The bar will certainly be open!
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 12:15 PM
Yeah it's not the band at all. It's really Ticketweb's fault for displaying that ficitcious error message advising people not to re-load the webpage because they're in line. Total bullshit, and it's why I got fucked over.
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 12:15 PM
>>>Plus they are gonna keep the bar closed to public during show.
Also 7th Street will be closed and expect police helicopters circling overhead.

Dear 12:01, they have a mailing list and a website and yet BV readers get first grabs? Not to say there isn't heavy overlap, but still, it's the gesture that stings. Makes it seem more like a press stunt than a small show for big fans. Which is probably true. Oh well.

"Thought The National was better than that though"
It's called being part of the music industry.

"BE THERE OR FOREVER SUCK!"
Meh.
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 1:06 PM
Just got off the phone with Ticketweb...they released half of the venues capacity worth of tickets. Big surprise.
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 1:08 PM
I got the "don't refresh or you'll lose your place in line" screen and still got 2 tickets for tonight. Went back about 10 minutes later on a whim and also got a ticket for tomorrow night.
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 2:12 PM
Can we please start talking about how incredible that performance was?
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 2:16 PM
I called to confirm. The bar is going to be tight for the National. Without a ticket before 10pm you are not getting into the bar.
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 2:55 PM
the performance WAS incredible.

Count me among those who are disappointed with the band. I'm the first to admit that they don't owe me a ticket. But, take a look at their website some time, and count the number of (ultimately useless) communications tools that they offer for their fans:
1. The site itself,
2. the "blog"
3. the twitter feed
4. email mailing list
5. RSS Feed
6. facebook page
It's really lame that if you sign up for these things, looking for important news about the band, that you still end up being completely in the dark about shows in your home city.
Again, I don't think they owe me a ticket. But, they do owe their fans an explanation as to why they advertise all these communication channels - when they turn out to be useless.
BV is great, for sure. But, why does the National have all of these joke-ass communication tools on its own website?
Posted by Luke | March 11, 2010 3:58 PM
Hmmm weird. You may want to check your National tweet feed right now...

On the Twitter site, the newest Tweet is March 1. WTF?

aww. I started the day calling somebody lame here on this post... and felt bad about it... so I'm glad I also made somebody feel good on it, too.
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 6:11 PM
Yes, it's kind of crappy that the National has all of these ways to keep in touch with their fans and didn't use any of them to alert anyone about these 2 shows at the Bell House. But at the same time, look at it this way...Tegan & Sara usually play 3,000+ person venues and recently played MHOW and charged $75 per ticket. The National, likewise, usually play 3,000+ person venues, and are playing a 350 person venue and charging a mere $20 per ticket. Sounds to me like they're doing alright by their fanbase with this set of shows. They easily could've taken advantage of their fans, charged $75 per ticket, and it would've sold out just as quickly.
In other words, STFU already.

""W.A.S.P has decided not to play tonight, refunds are available at point of purchase.""
Posted by brooklynvegan | March 11, 2010 8:17 PM
^ Maybe they finally figured out how irrelevant they are.
Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2010 8:26 PM
The National absolutely killed it tonight. They played for over 90 minutes. 3 song encore. Buncha new stuff. I feel sorry for everyone who didn't get tickets and is now stuck seeing them at Radio City in a few months.

"In other words, STFU already."
agreed! national are the shit! great show tonight, and yes, 12:36, radio city will be LAME. too bad they couldnt play more gigs at bell house
Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2010 2:13 AM
Yeah it's admirable that the national charged only 20 bucks. But they still didn't advertise it to their fans thru any of their fan networks. Glad show was great tho for those who got wind of it (and tix). Psyched for prospect park show

Best show since the 5 nights at Bowery. The new stuff is seriously very good. Berninger was hilarious at times.
Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2010 9:26 AM
I don't think anyone feels too bad about being "stuck" seeing them at Radio City. That's going to be one of the best shows of the year!
I would have liked to have seen them at Bell House, but I'd rather go to the RCMH show (especially with the good seats that I have). Besides, I've seen them in small venues before. It's great, but I'm more interested in seeing what they can pull off as far as big spectacle is concerned.
And Prospect Park w/ Beach House is going to be great is the weather is nice.

I'll take seeing a band in a 350-person venue versus a 6,000-person venue any day of the week/month/year/decade/millennium. I'll never fathom why someone would want to sit a football field away from the (now ant-sized) performer they're there to see. But whatever floats your boat, I guess.

This show was insanely good. I posted a ton of photos on Backseat Sandbar

it's actually pretty exciting seeing one of your favorite bands surrounded by 5,999 of your closest friends. And I have great seats for RCMH and I don't need to fight my way for a good spot. The sightlines aren't great at Bell House.
Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2010 1:34 PM
"surrounded by 5,999 of your closest friends."
Like woah...you have a lot of friends, bro.
