YACHT...

Two one-person bands, MNDR and Bobby Birdman, opened up for a two-person band, YACHT, who had three more musicians backing them up, at Bowery Ballroom on March 11th.
"During their short yet spirited performance, YACHT played the majority of their recent album, See Mystery Lights. The record plays on themes of death, heaven and hell but is in no way depressing or morbid. Even when it is in poor taste, as the group chanted the lyric "Do the Kurt Cobain and blow your brains out" from "B Side Suicide," it was done with playfulness and levity. This charismatic energy was most apparent during the anthemic "Psychic City" and their show opener, "Ring the Bell." Additionally, the duo constantly interacted with the audience, from descending into the crowd to laying hands upon eager fans. If YACHT intends to create intrigue, they have certainly achieved it with their personality and music." [JAQK]All three of those acts will be at SXSW - MNDR even makes a stop at the BrooklynVegan day party on Friday, March 19th at Club DeVille.
YACHT go on tour this April and May with labelmates LCD Soundsystem.

Ugh. Can't this garbage just stay on the west coast, where it belongs? The fuck they have to ship it over here for?

one of the 10 worst live bands I've ever seen... a bad sign for the LCD Soundsystem tour, since Yacht got laughed off the stage opening for them at Studio B a couple years ago.

Who are the other 9 on your list?
Posted by Anonymous | March 16, 2010 12:45 AM
yacht were most definitely not laughed off the stage when they opened for lcd at studio b. he (at that time it was just the dude) was well received for an opening act. i am very certain of this. but no matter your recollection on yacht, do you not think lcd did their thing to the max that night? cause they most definitely did. so how is this a bad sign for an lcd tour?

Guggenheim billed it as a performance piece and it was just an installation. Resultingly, the crowd simply waited for the "show" to start, limiting anyone's ability to freely explore the space (the ground floor was packed with indian-style seaters, and the balconies were lined with people holding onto their spots like grim death.

it makes no sense for them to deconstruct the entire TD North venue to play a show the next night ~50 miles south at an amphitheater (which probably would require a different stage setup anyway). They'd play Providence or Mohegan Sun before that (and I think those are both highly unlikely).
