Bands of Horses is bigger than Grizzly Bear?

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 8:31 AM

Grizzly Bear opening for Band of horses???

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 8:35 AM

People are seriously gonna pay 30 dollars to see Band of Horses? Grizzly Bear and Karen Elson are tempting, but Band of Horses is real lame live.

And when the fuck are they gonna announce the free shows at the Waterfront? I wrongfully get my free hopes up every time a show gets announced at this place.

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 8:36 AM

FREEEEEEEE????

"And when the fuck are they gonna announce the free shows at the Waterfront? I wrongfully get my free hopes up every time a show gets announced at this place."

That's called entitlement. The sooner you stop whining and get over that, the better we'll all be. Thanks!

How many people does the waterfront hold again?

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 8:57 AM

this is going to be sick. BoH are amazing live and will be much better at the waterfront that grizzly bear (love them, but their outdoor shows just don't do it for me).

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 9:03 AM

Yeah, does anyone know how many people this place holds? If this is 5000 capacity or whatever I'll take a miss.

8:43

Oh OK that makes sense.

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 9:24 AM

completely disagree with 8:36 - i have seen them multiple times and they have blown me away each time. i cannot wait for this show.

god, what a bunch of whiney, bitchy pussies. A live show by the water in the summer. Smoke a doobie and chill the fuck out or something.

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 9:43 AM

i guess no freebie show that day since this is a sunday.

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 9:57 AM

also - what is the presale for? amex? or is there a pw? thanks.

9:57

last year, the free shows started on july 12 and ended on august 30. it will likely be the same this year.

Hope GB do another BK show that weekend...MHOW please?!

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 10:16 AM

This seems like a weird move for Grizzly Bear. Their last headline New York show was at Williamsburg Waterfront as well last August (albeit free) Seems like they could do Radio City or something special after all this time, yet they chose to open for Band Of Horses, a band that definitely peaked years ago.

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 11:04 AM

aw kewl. but also there goes my #1 guess for Band of Horses too headline the Siren Festival.

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 11:36 AM

Band of Horses at McCarren a couple years ago was amazing. these guys bring it and Grizzly Bear would be a nice opener.

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 11:37 AM

11:04- They did the Twilight soundtrack for fuck's sake, let's not talk about weird moves for Grizzly Bear.

true.. though that seemed like an effort to reach a broader audience at least.. This seems more like a step back and stands to benefit Band Of Horses more than GB I think

I don't think a pairing with Grizzly Bear is going to do much for BoH that hasn't happened already. Like them or not, they are pretty popular now and have a lot of mainstream crossover appeal. I know that makes many of you want to wretch, but it is what it is. Your beloved Grizzly Bear, though a fantastic band imo, does not have the widespread popularity outside of the indie circuit that you'd like to think. I'm not sure if this is a one-off pairing or what, but it will definitely give Grizzly Bear more exposure to folks outside the insular and homogeneous community that heralds them with such hyperbole.

I think it's an odd, but cool pairing and I'm looking forward to seeing both!

Band of Horses did that cover of GB's plans. They are friends. Fun bill.

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 1:00 PM

GB live in Williamsburg and are probably doing it because it'll be a fun, easy show. I don't think they're worried about what opening for BOH means for them in the indie band power rankings.

"11:04- They did the Twilight soundtrack for fuck's sake, let's not talk about weird moves for Grizzly Bear."

so did thom yorke. ergo, no biggie.

exactly. thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2010 7:10 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 27, 2010 2:54 PM

Presale password: LAREDO

Posted by Cuse | April 27, 2010 7:43 PM

Also, btw, the presale date is wrong. Presale starts Thursday at 10am.

Posted by Cuse | April 27, 2010 8:20 PM

are you an idiot?

Posted by Anonymous | April 27, 2010 8:34 PM

is that really the pw? if so, thank you!

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2010 12:56 PM

yeah, it's the password. just checked on Grizzly Bear website.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2010 10:48 PM

You guys make the music scene out to be way more political than most bands ever see it. I doubt Grizzly Bear are worried about whether they're gonna gain ground or new fans with this show. They probably got asked by close friends to play the show and obliged. What happened to playing shows for the sake of playing shows? Especially when you have a lot of time on your hands.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2010 10:37 AM

Yeah I'm kind of surprised that Grizzly Bear is the opening act for this one. Not to diminish how psyched I am, love Band of Horses as well but Grizz seem to be seriously riding a crest of fame both critical and commercial at the moment, vis a vis song being used by Washington State Lottery, haha whatever the implications are there. Saw video of Bon Iver from festival in Norway and he's side stage watching Band of Horses perform "Funeral" with members of Grizzly Bear, as he's walking away remarks, "that song rocks so f'ing hard." I am psyched though, Williamsburg Waterfront close subway ride from my Manhattan apartment.

Tickets available again at ticketmaster for this!

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:23 AM

what time will GB go on?

Too crowded for a blanket?

Posted by joe | June 20, 2010 3:22 PM

I think it's something like
Karen Elston - 6:30
GB - 7:30
BOH - 9:00
