Best Coast

"The three-piece [Best Coast] are definitely a good time, packing thick, retro bass and drum lines that could have been ripped from '60s girl groups, and then speeding it all up for scruffy, Ramones-inspired power pop. It's a proven winning formula when it works, and work it does on humorous, peppy anthems such as "Wish He Was You."" [La Times]
Best Coast played to a sold out crowd at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn on Tuesday night (4/6). Bethany Cosentino mixed a handful of new songs (the best of the lot, for me, continues to be "Boyfriend") with crowd favorites like "When I'm With You" and "This Is Real". Ali Koehler of the Vivian Girls guested on drums. Her VG bandmate, Cassie Ramone, was on stage earlier with excellent openers, The Babies, and Canadian band, The Bitters, were slotted in between.

The Bitters and Best Coast share a bill again tonight (4/7) at Mercury Lounge. More pictures from last night including one of the BC setlist, below...

nice photos. it was a good show, esp. best coast. boyfriend was the worst of the new songs IMHO.

wanted to like the bitters more, but the singer wasn't doing it for me, and not just because the mic went out on her a few times.

yeah, boyfriend is definitely one of the weaker songs, surprised the writer singled it out. but good show, they were fun. like me some best coast

no "In My Room" c'mon... "Crazy" is an excellent new tune, but I'd say "Goodbye" is probably the worst of the new ones. just not very tuneful & rough lyrics. overall good show though. million times better than cmj.

Yes. Great photos. I love how you captured Best Coast singer Bethany both in tough mode and with a big smile.

Though it was kind of annoying-hot last night, it made me start pining for the summer and all the sweaty shows that come with it.

Here's a link to my write-up of Tuesday night's show: http://sonicsmorgasbord.wordpress.com/2010/04/07/best-coast/.

What happened to the kickass drummer BC had at SXSW?!? He really brought it. Ali sucked the life out of the songs at KF and last night at Mercury.
