Fitz & The Tantrums @ SXSW 2010 (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)

L.A. funk-soul band Fitz & The Tantrums are heading out on tour with Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings in May. That's after Sharon Jones & Co. play their sold-out Apollo Theater shows on Friday and Saturday.
After those dates, Fitz comes to NYC for a show at Mercury Lounge on Friday, May 28th. Cheap Seats, who do emo-tinged '60s bubblegum, open. Tickets are on sale.
Fitz's LP, Pickin' Up The Pieces, is due this year, but you can get the band's Songs For A Break Up Volume 1 EP for free on their website. Dominick had great things to say about their SXSW performance, writing, "Their set was something else. Fun all around, tight contemporary Motown dance numbers that had people dancing and singing." He said they were his biggest SXSW surprise.
In related? news, Eli "Paperboy" Reed has a new album and show at Mercury Lounge coming soon too.

Now that we know taht neither The Heavy nor Fitz and The Tantrums are opening up the Sharon Jones shows at The Apoolo, any idea who actually is?

hmmm.... I really want to like this, but this is like Maroon 5 with half of the Dapkings (missing guitars). I like the general sound, energy and the band, but the songs are too contemporary.... plus the male lead singer's needs a lot more "soul"....

Fitz obviously paid for this post, right? Because no way does their music merit it. #1 way to make me ignore your "soul" band is to name it "_____ & the _____'s". At least Kings go Forth are good.

Easily one of my favorite new bands in the last year or two. Amazing live.
