Veronica Falls

As mentioned before, UK band Veronica Falls are playing this year's NYC Popfest on Thursday May 20 at Cake Shop. If you can't attend that, the band have booked a few other shows in town: they play Glasslands on May 15 with Crystal Stilts and Bruar Falls on May 16. Veronica Falls are also playing the Elm City Popfest in New Haven, CT on May 14 and Boston on May 17. After Popfest, they'll support Teenage Fanclub on a UK tour.

Based out of London, the band are made up of ex-members of defunct Glasgow bands The Royal We and Sexy Kids, as well as a member poached from Your Twenties. Their debut single "Found Love in a Graveyard" (one of my favorite tracks of 2009) is out now on Captured Tracks, the b-side of which is a really lovely version of Roky Erickson's "Starry Eyes." Download the A-side at the top of this post. The follow-up, "Beach Head," will be out May 18, just in time for Popfest. The Royal We and Sexy Kids never made it to America (worth checking out, though) so do try and catch one of their shows.

Speaking of NYC Popfest, festival passes are sold out but you can still buy individual tickets for all shows. It's a great line-up this year, including Manchester post punk legends The Wake, Seattle's BOAT, one of Pants Yell!'s last-ever shows, Tender Trap (new band from Amelia Fletcher of Talulah Gosh and Heavenly fame) (not to be confused with Temper Trap), Allo Darlin' and loads more. There's lots of information about the bands over at the official NYC Popfest blog. Also, the Popfest organizers have put together a nice mix of 17 of the popfest bands -- the link to the zip file is at the top of this post.

All 2010 Veronica Falls tour dates, videos and the tracklisting of that Popfest mix are all after the jump.

The press photo is hilarious, they ought to rename the band The Four Morrisseys

The Wake are Scottish post-punk legends (from Glasgow not Manchester). This will be their first and only US show.

Hey, nice blog I enjoy reading it. I think you will like this new artist from Sweden, Erik Hassle. He's releasing his single "hurtful" in america now I think...it's really great, check him out!

I think this is the second time I've referred to The Wake as being Mancs... just associate everything on Factory as being from there.
