The Hold Steady

Speaking of The Hold Steady, the band just added a date at the Beacon Theatre on Thursday, October 7th. Tickets go on presale Wednesday at 10am. General sale starts Friday, April 9th at 10am.

In addition to their shows, which are outlined below, they'll be appearing on Late Show with David Letterman on April 30th and The Colbert Report on May 14th.

The band will be boosting their live lineup (recently minus keyboardist Franz Nicolay) with guitarist Steve Selvidge and keyboard player Dan Neustadt (who, like Franz also played in World Inferno Friendship Society). Meanwhile Franz is touring as a member of Against Me!

There's no way they are not going to play NYC until five months after the record comes out. There's rumor of a show at the Bowery or The Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 17th. I would guess that there may be other dates somewhere in New York over the summer.

beacon theater is the worst possible venue for this band.

are the unified scene douches going to piss and moan that they can't stand in their self-declared spots at an assigned seating show? is that worth the price of admission? i hope so, because the 3 tracks released so far are less than inspiring

this band has conquered some pretty shitty venues. Beacon show will probably bring out their "harpsichord solo" side but you know, when you got 1 song like "Banging Camp" or "Stevie Nix" or "Killer Parties" or "Sequestered" you can slip into a set, you can do a great show anywhere anytime, and the Hold Steady have like 7 or 8 of those songs.

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were really good albums. Got them when they came out, still throw them on at times and think they're great. It saddens me when I hear bands from that era when I was a teenager and hear their new stuff and it's so clear how they've lost it, they sound desperate to recapture a sound/magic that they haven't had in 15 years (holy shit).... And then I realize that is not unlike a lot of us.
