Tonight Silent Barn hosts a few worthy out-there acts: Weasel Walter's Cellular Chaos, which at a gig earlier this year (on video below) featured Weasel on guitar, Talibam's Kevin Shea on drums and Ceci Moss on bass; Kayo Dot's Toby Driver and Mia Matsumiya as Tartar Lamb; Charlie Looker of Extra Life playing solo; and a band we know nothing about, 10, apparently on tour from S. Korea. - AF

As somewhat hidden in a Jonny Corndawg post which was a Delta Spirit and MG&V post, Tim Barry of Avail is headlining a show at Knitting Factory tonight.

Questlove DJ's every Thursday in April at Brooklyn Bowl.

Quasi performed for KEXP. Check out a video below...

i can't fucking wait for LCD. 2007 was a long time ago. let's dance.

I think it would have been amazing if Murphy made an album drastically different than the last LCD album. Something along the lines of an avant-garde proto punk album such as "White Light / White Heat" or a progressive ambient electronic album a la Brian Eno's "Another Green World" as almost a fuck you to Hollywood and the general Media who now think its comforting and hip to listen to LCD. From the sound of the first single it sounds like he chose to remain in his comfort zone so he could appease fans fatten his pockets....

I think a lot of people maybe saw him as the potential savior of what has become a somewhat stale musical universe. The search continues. While I'm on this subject I'll give props to MGMT because it sounds like they actually progressed and went with a slew of new and exciting ideas on their upcoming album. Murphy could learn a thing or two from those fellas and that's coming from a person who was not into Oracular Spectacular and loved the first few LCD records. Hey, what can I say everyone's a critic, right?

Any openers tonight?

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2010 9:19 AM

Another Green World is definitely not an ambient album.

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2010 9:25 AM

your mom is definitely not an ambient album

"Hey, what can I say everyone's a critic, right?"

Everyone's an asshole, and they have an opinion. Wait, did I get that right? Hahaa

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2010 9:53 AM

did anyone else have tickets canceled by ticketmaster this morning? bought a set of tix for myself and a friend. another friend tried to buy tix but ticketmaster would not work for him (and others, apparently). ticketmaster allowed me to go back in and buy two more tickets, which were for him and his friend.

i just wish ticketmaster had now allowed the purchase of the second set of tickets so that we could have tried something else.

8:30 Doors 10pm show? Lcd on at 10 or Light Asylum at 10..that is the big question?! Thanks!

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2010 10:18 AM

8:27 - you are dumber than a bag of dicks. progression or difference means its good? you're full of yourself. they made a great record.

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2010 10:22 AM

listen to your trendy hipster music while you can losers. you will all suffer the rath of a terrible awakening soon enough.

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2010 10:22 AM

Midlake were surprisingly excellent last night at the BB. The new material sounds a lot richer coming from the stage, and they stayed away from the old "hits". Their vocals were as wonderful and ethereal as ever, and the band launched into a handful of smoking, screaming-guitar rock-outs throughout the evening.

Posted by drewo | April 8, 2010 10:39 AM

This is Hans Moleman in the morning. Good Moleman to you.

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2010 10:45 AM

Light Aslyum are the fucking worst. If you like derivative, boring, uninspired music - check it out - it's amazingly average.

I have an extra LCD soundsystem ticket. If you are a hot/cute/sexy chick, preferably hipster looking and/or with tatoos, between the ages of 17 - 35, love james murphy, ride a bike, have a strong affinity for all things craigslist, and can dance, I am offering up one lcd soundsystem ticket at the cost of: face value ($20) + 10 second make out sesh w/me + 1 dance w/me at the show. Interested? Yes? Good! Shoot me an e-mail. p4p (if you don't hang out on craigslist, that's lingo for "pic for pic")

Disclaimer: If you are fun to hang out with, you can exchange some fun/witty conversation instead of the 10 second make out sesh. If you are NOT fun to hang out, then you better be a good kisser.

About me: 24, love music, have great dance moves (obviously), and love meeting new people.

If you've never 'casually' met someone on craigslist, you haven't lived

I guess I saw a different show. The band seemed lethargic as they played Roscoe, Young Bride, Head Home, Bandits, so not sure what you mean by didn't play the "hits". Maybe you just didn't recognize them because they were slowed down to match the new album's tempo.

i don't comment on here much, but jesus 8:27. listen to the mgmt album a few times, and if you have any kind of ear, you'll see through it. catchy? at times yes, but "congratulations" for making one of the most contrived records i've heard in quite some time.

^^
you may have a point here.

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2010 12:25 PM

you call it contrived i call it taking risks and expanding their sound.

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2010 12:25 PM

Do people know that this is only going to be a "practice" show for LCD? They're only scheduled to play for 45 minutes. That's exactly the allotted time for Light Asylum as well. Might as well be a co-headlining slot.

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2010 12:38 PM

Anon 12:38pm....where is your source for being "warm-up" show? I don't believe you at all....

I'll bet they will play for at least 80 minutes.

juiceboxxx is a joke. period.

have fun dancin to terrible shit though.

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2010 1:19 PM

I heard James and the gang rehearsing the new stuff - I jam in the same rehearsal studios - and it is reaaaaaally awesome live. I think much like the last album, the material gains great breadth in a live setting.

Posted by j | April 8, 2010 1:44 PM

@ 12:25:

a quote from VanWyngarden regarding the "new" sound: “But if this doesn’t work, if this isn’t what people want to hear, then I’m not sure what we’ll do next.

and here we even have an apology for 'taking such a big risk' regarding song "flash delirium": "It's not a single, but we thought it was a good way to entice people to listen to the whole record. I'm sure there are plenty of people who think it's completely weird and not what they were expecting. I'm sorry."

contrived. let me know how the live show works out for you.
