Bon Jovi fans (more by Ryan Muir)
Bon Jovi

At Bon Jovi's three sold-out shows this week at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., the top package -- which includes the takeaway chair, a leather bag and a catered meal -- is $1,875.

Once available only for top-dollar tours by the likes of U2 or the Rolling Stones, V.I.P. packages have trickled down to the rank-and-file of live music, as artists try to maximize grosses and reap some of the markup value that the best seats get on resale sites like StubHub.com. And despite the soft economy, promoters have found that hard-core fans are willing to pay premium prices to get red-carpet treatment for their favorite shows. [A Front-Row Seat, to Go? Rock Fans Pay for Perks @ the NY Times]

The only band I would pay $1,875 for are the original indie rock kings Winger.

Alice in chains has vip packages ranging up to $1,500. Even if they brought Layne back from the dead for 1 night only I still can't see anyone paying that much. Granted the $1,500 package is for 2 people yet $750 each, really?

I agree with the above comments. That said, I would pay upwards of $2000 to see Bon Jovi take a beating in the Octagon.

I would pay at least $3000 to see Wavves

Posted by Anonymous | May 27, 2010 9:38 PM

Wavves only gets $2K to headline a show
So he has to play a show to go to Bon Jovi
w Vampire Weekend

Will there be a similar package available for Dan Deacon tonight? Free blowjobs in the cake shop lounge by the man himself?

There are a lot of people in this country for whom $1875 is pocket change. Unfortunately I am not one of them. I'm sure there are much better things I'm missing out on than seeing Bon Jovi up close though.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2010 2:09 AM

Lefsetz got a letter from a sucker who paid for the Bon Jovi VIP tickets. Pretty interesting how badly he was treated.

Most of the nostalgia acts are raping fans, though you can still be front row for U2 for under $75. Go figure. Anyone paying more than that for Bon Jovi gets what they deserve. No sympathy for the stupid.

Just wait 20 years and you'll be paying $1,500 + inflation to be in the pit for Bright Eyes telling your children how you bought "I'm Wide Awake It's Morning" on the day it came out.

I initially read that as "cathetered meal".

Aerosmith is getting a guaranteed 1 million to play the State Fair with an additional 300,000 if it sells out. Stunning and stupid.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2010 10:31 AM

10:08, it'll be how you downloaded the record the month before it came out

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2010 10:31 AM

I too would pay $1100 to see Matt Bon Jovi shot in the head.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2010 10:50 AM

so sad that people would pay this much to see ANYONE, let along Mr. Bon Jovi. And also, although NOT a fan of their music, he always comes off as a pretty down to earth kinda guy, on the Springsteen tip, yes, his music sucks but he has some integrity. disappointed that he'd allow promoters to rape fans like this, come on, they don't need the money! super lame!

I grew up in Jersey and it always freaked me out how Bon Jovi and Springsteen both effect that dopey, constipated "I'm from a small working class town in South Jersey" voice in interviews. I've never met anyone who speaks like that in real life.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2010 12:38 PM

12:38 is completely correct.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2010 12:46 PM

I actually feel really bad for that who wrote in about paying $1100 and then being treated like shit. Sounds like an awful experience.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2010 1:11 PM

That guy in the pic is gay.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2010 1:46 PM

i can get a bj for $10 near the tunnel.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2010 8:50 PM

If you pay a big amount you should be treated nicely unlike what happened to the guy who wrote in. You would also expect at least a minute to meet with the band. But I'm not going to rag on anybody who wants to spend that much on something they love.
