DOWNLOAD: Peter Gabriel - Flume (Bon Iver cover) (MP3)

Peter Gabriel in London in March...
Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel's orchestra tour is in NYC for shows at Radio City Music Hall tonight (May 2nd) and tomorrow (May 3rd). Opening both shows will be Norwegian singer Ane Brun. Tickets are still on sale.

Peter Gabriel's new LP, Scratch My Back, which includes covers like the Bon Iver one posted above (a single for Record Store Day), is out now. Coincidentally Gabriel's NYC shows are a month before his Genesis bandmate Phil Collins plays NYC shows in support of his own, different covers record (and one of Phil Collins's shows is the same day as Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett's free NYC show).

Ane Brun follows up those opening gigs with her own headlining shows in L.A. on May 8th and NYC on May 10th at Bowery Ballroom. Opening those is Olof Arnalds, an Icelandic singer who we've mentioned once or twice. Tickets or the NYC show are on sale.

Olof Arnalds recently recorded with fellow Icelandian Bjork who also makes an appearance in NYC Sunday night.

She is *not* opening, she is part of the band. There is no opener.

From Ane Brun's website: Ane Brun & Peter Gabriel! - 5/03 2010

Ane is going on tour this spring with Peter Gabriel in Europe, Canada and the US! She has been invited to join Peter Gabriel’s band as a singer on his “New Blood Tour”. Together with a large orchestra, Peter Gabriel will perform his new album “Skratch my back” and also a set of classic Peter Gabriel songs in an orchestral setting.

Peter Gabriel discovered Ane Brun when they both performed at the Nelson Mandela “46664” concert in Tromsø, Norway, in 2005.

Ane, on tour in Spain at the moment, says:
“I’m very honoured to go on tour with Peter Gabriel. I’ve listened to his music ever since I was ten years old and borrowed my older brother’s “So” album. Many of his songs are absolute favorites of mine! I deeply respect him as a songwriter, musician and also his engagement in societal and human rights issues.”

The show started not long after 8:00 if I remember correctly (it was all of 16 hours ago) and was done by 11:15ish.

Ann Brun was angelic, we will hear and see more of her for sure. The concert was magical at Radio City. Peter took far in my mind and heart. He can do this to me, he always have.
Great job!

Anyone know what time Peter went on stage?

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2010 3:05 PM

no drums, no guitars, no show

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2010 4:15 PM

on at 8, spoke, Are Did 2, and at about 8:15 the album went in sequence, end of set. Then, between sets Lou Reed did Solsbury Hill, and the second set went to 11:15. Signal to Noise, San Jacinto, In Your Eyes, Red Rain all highlights. Don't Give Up with Brun was fantastic. Show was mesmerizingly great. Loaded with 50 year olds!

60 piece orchestra easily takes care of no guitar and no drums, I'd say.... :>

I was there last night as well, nothing short of spectacular. The vocal mike was clearest around the sound board area and was not the clearest as I thought it should have been where I was seated about 15 rows back stage right. Fabulous arrangements, simply breathtaking!! Does anyone know what is up with Lou Reed? He didn't look too good, took short steps off the stage and needed guidance. I've tried to search but cannot find any info.
