Built to Spill @ Webster Hall Oct. 2009 (more by Bryan Bruchman)
Built to Spill

Built to Spill and The Black Keys are both opening for Kings of Leon on their North American tour this summer. Their travels together don't come near New York City though. The closest Kings of Leon get is the Altantic City Borgata, and that's with The Whigs opening. Tickets are on sale (and only $125).

The Black Keys' upcoming NYC shows are two nights at SummerStage in Central Park (the full lineup for which just got fully announced) with the Morning Benders. (Check out their "sexy new video" if you haven't already.)

Ends up, Built to Spill will be in NYC too this summer - they play a Wednesday, July 28th show at Irving Plaza. Tickets go on Live Nation presale Thursday at 10am. General Sale starts Friday at 10am.

Kinda odd they're skipping NYC....I bet they'll play somewhere outside in August.

dude looks like a zombie. au

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 10:41 AM

they'd do a fri/sat at KeySpan Park in Coney Island if they were smart.

Am I the only one who thinks it's sad Built To Spill is opening for KIngs of Leon? I can just see it now...some 16 or 17 year old girls saying "I like these guys....they must be new or something!"

I'm not one of those people who is disdainful of those with less esoteric music taste, but Built To Spill is too good for this....

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 10:41 AM

i agree too good, but in the mp3age they still gotta feed the kidz

doug martsch looks like a homeless man with parkinsons when he performs.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 10:51 AM

Sure, but that doesn't stop the fact that the last Kings of Leon album probably sold more copies than the entirety of the Built To Spill catalog. Way it goes.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 10:51 AM

BTW, Kings of Leon must absolutely HATE their families back home. I don't think these guys have stopped touring for at least the last 5 years.

@10:41

But then maybe those 16 or 17 year old girls will listen to a BTS album, like it, and then go from there. I don't think it's "sad" that BTS is opening for KOL. It's definitely a little strange because BTS is clearly the superior band, but there's never anything wrong with a band expanding their audience.

Built to Spill also is playing the Stone Pony on Friday, Aug. 6. Presale tomorrow at 10 am, regular sale Saturday. Inside (as in not a Pony Summerstage event).

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 10:57 AM

Agree with Jim above, it's a good bill. And the show in Camden isn't THAT far from NYC, for KoL and BTS, potentially worthwhile...

Good comments in this thread. It is sad that BTS is opening for KOL, but the fact is that KOL is much more mainstream or at least KOL was a band that was better promoted than BTS.

BTS rarely get any airtime, which is sad because at least 5-7 BTS songs could have been huge hits with the proper promotion.

this post has BTS playing irving on 7/28, but the tour dates list them as playing in toronto that night...

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 11:32 AM

Stone Pony has nothing on their site about August 6th BTS. . .

Posted by Helena | May 5, 2010 11:59 AM

are they definitely playing the stone pony? have any of you been there/is it far/good place to see bands?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 12:35 PM

Built to Spill is listed as playing Toronto above, but that is a mistake. Kings of Leon website has only the Stills listed as support:
http://www.kingsofleon.com/pages/tour

Weird, BTS is on the Ohio date before that and the Darien Lake right after. Maybe someone in BTS can't cross borders?

Kings of Leon are a joke. I saw them open for the Strokes in'04, back when they were being marketed as "southern rock revivalists." I guess that ploy didn't work, so their agents advised them to change their sound to something the kids would buy...damn philistines...

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:03 PM

even for three bands those tickets prices are very high
last time i checked the Borgata site they hadn't sold out, which is odd for an act like KOL playing in a small venue

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:04 PM

The borgata show will be the perfect place to wear my new Ed Hardy t-shirt!

" I can just see it now...some 16 or 17 year old girls saying "I like these guys....they must be new or something!"

I think it will be more like... "GET THESE OLD DUDES OFF THE STAGE!!!" Which, as a BTS fan, would make me want to hurt them. I will not be there...

now THAT'S what you call a beard!

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 9:12 PM

wow no one has written meh in this threat..well played. BTS > KOL. But you also gotta respect KOL's early shit.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 9:54 PM
