Carlos D

Interpol, who recently released a new song from their new record, have announced that Carlos D has left the band. Their letter and all tour dates below...

---

Dear fans,

As some of you have surely heard, Interpol has completed it's new album.

It was recorded at Electric Lady Studios, New York, and mixed with Alan Moulder at Assault and Battery, London.

The four of us poured our collective heart into this music and we are very proud and excited to share it.

It's a heavy record. But we're feeling limber; and we're going to carry it all around the world for you.

Touring begins this summer, so check here soon for announcements and show dates.

There is more:
Sadly, Carlos will not be joining us.

After the completion of the album, Carlos informed the rest of us that he would be leaving the band. He has decided to follow another path, and to pursue new goals. This separation is amicable, and we whole-heartedly wish him great happiness and success. We will remain, as always, deeply respectful fans of this blazingly talented individual.

We can tell you that we have some very exciting new recruits joining us on the road. So stay tuned - we will promptly be revealing the identities of these illustrious players.

We eagerly await the opportunity to reconvene with you all
- the greatest fans known to Rock.

Thank you.

If a hipster were asked to eat the poop from Stewie's diaper, would he?

Posted by Stewie | May 10, 2010 4:28 AM

I'm so fucking sad about this.

'New York, NY @ New Meadowlands Stadium'

That's flat out Jersey yo. Not even 'kind of New York'.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 8:53 AM

Oh, this is so gay. Shock, Shock...Terror, Terror.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 8:58 AM

Will they also miss his coke habit?

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 9:07 AM

I hear that Editors are considering having one of their members leave too.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 9:32 AM

I hear that Editors and that horrible Justin Warfield band are each considering having one of their members leave too.

there must be something wrong with my computer.

this headline keeps reading:

Douche leaves Douche Band (who have douche conventions coming up)

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 9:35 AM

For old time's sakes, let's talk about some of the gossip stories about Carlos D that were going around back when Interpol was relevant. Remember the one where he was accused of luring underage girls into his bedroom using his fame and drugs by way of some club the band would frequent?

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 10:06 AM

One of the best bassists around. Who is the replacement? Peter Hook? ;)

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 10:13 AM

Reality check: If you're leaving comments like the ones above online, you are the definition of a douche.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 10:19 AM

Who cares, he was only the bassist.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 10:29 AM

SWANS touring!!!!! Interpol who???

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 10:34 AM

Well, at least there's no more of his pelvic thrusts in Gestapo looking outfits.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 10:35 AM

He was an inspiration and an icon to the Nazi quoting, cocaine ingesting, herpes sharing legions of the LES. Carlos, you will be "sorely" missed.

Posted by Don Hill | May 10, 2010 10:48 AM

i don't care about his personal life, his bass sound was an integral part of what made Interpol a great band. Wasn't overwhelmed by new track, so may be a moot point, but he will be hard to replace...

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 10:49 AM

Carlos leaves and they announce a tour OPENING FOR U2!? Not cool.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 10:50 AM

See ya later carlos d, hardly knew ya!

Posted by French Toast | May 10, 2010 10:50 AM

Job opening at Interpol!

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 10:55 AM

Was probably kicked out

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 10:56 AM

Maybe he will take a page from the book of Paul Banks and create a stupid alter-ego, then release a disposable sub-par album.

ps- Good Luck Carlos, you career is OVER!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 10:57 AM

Was he really as big of a drugusing herpes carrying manwhore as he was made out to be, or was that all just hipster gossip? I wouldn't find it hard to believe, since that handsome face combined with dark hair plus the German/Colombian decent makes me assume he had a huge dick. Throw in being a rock star, and its no wonder the guy would bed plenty of ladies. Carlos D is one of the last real rock stars out there.

Spread your wings and shine on you crazy diamond!

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 11:13 AM

Yeah, he may as well leave since Paul & Dan hogged up most of the bands money.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 12:03 PM

Carlos D can be substituted with Pauly D! They can then be called Jerseypol when the play with U2 a at Giants Stadium! Can't wait for summer!

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 12:11 PM

What will they look like now?

Posted by ag | May 10, 2010 12:12 PM

Where do I sign up to play bass?

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 12:33 PM

Wait--Pauly Shore's playing bass in Interpol now?

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 12:45 PM

Carlos D gave me Herpes

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 1:15 PM

The new album must really blow if he felt strong enough to leave the band before he could collect a nice paycheck with those U2 dates.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 1:15 PM

Ah, Carlos finally is going to fulfill his dream of being happily married with 8 kids, living in a plain's state and working as a children's librarian.

Seriously now,I am sorry to see him leave because his bass was a definite influence and his presence help create the Interpol vibe. He always looked cool on stage but man he was mean as snakes to the other band members, fans and women on a whole. Oh, the stories.....

I hope he finds what he needs to find and learns a little grace.

July 21st show in New Haven according to the Toad's Place website.

Posted by kwhitehead | May 10, 2010 2:12 PM

a great guy, a great bassist, a fashion icon, a filmmaker, and a funny raconteur. can't imagine why he bailed on the chance to play Rochester and Buffalo.

"hello, Syracuse! it's time to TURN ON the BRIGHT LIIIIIGHTS!"

The new album must really blow if he felt strong enough to leave the band before he could collect a nice paycheck with those U2 dates.

Good point.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 2:33 PM

10:49 hit the spot.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 3:24 PM

like the other dudes in the band dont fuck groupies or do blow. this along with the mediocre come back track MEANS this band is officially over. they will die a slow death on tour with that hip new band U2. how many times can you make a shitty record after one really good one??? the answer is 3!

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 6:16 PM

can you believe this dude was actually paid a lot of money to do DJ sets at one time? he even had a booking agent. he would show up gun holster attached to his body and spin records better than he made himself. not anymore, i dont think anyones clamoring to hear dj sets from an ex member of Interpol let alone a current one. those were the days mr D! expect a hip hop solo album soon complete with videos featuring scantily clad girls with big juggs poolside. his stock's about to rise haterz! he's gotta pay for that coke habit somehow and god knows all that interpol cash (which wasnt much anyway) is all spent.

I will always remember what I was doing the day i got this news, and that I was crying.

Posted by fatgothgirl | May 10, 2010 6:22 PM

Carlos D was not only an integral part of Interpol, but he also represented what became the (re)popularization of hipsters in the early 2000s. Upon hearing this news, I had to do a doubletake on my emotions because I forgot how big a deal Interpol and Carlos D were. Now I realize every decade has those bands and in 10 years when someone like Rostam Batmanskljaskldqweuioasdf from Vampire Weekend quits, we'll be doing this again.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 7:20 PM

The head editor at Stereogum wrote this in response to Carlos D leaving:

"Scott | Posted at 10:21am

Did I ever tell you about that time I went trick or treating with Carlos D of Interpol? It was awesome, we did it in May of last year."

By "tricks," I'm assuming he meant "underage whores" and by treats, I assume he meant, "Meow Meow."

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 7:26 PM

that trick or treating comment was in reference to this:

I was trying to fin more information on Carlo's new venture and outlet of creativity and stumbled on this site. All I can say is that it is trully sad when people use the writen word to publish such rubish. Unless you have a direct personal relationship with the person you are bashing, you should stop and THINK before pressing submit!!! Carlos has mad talent or he wouldn't have been in such an influential Band touring with The Cure etc. I have had the opportunity to meet him in LA and he has been more than gracious. Thanks Carlos for the wonderful music =) I will miss you in future concerts. Good LUCK
