Fuck Buttons at Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 21st

They make noise; sometimes the soundtrack to a heart-pounding mental breakdown, sometimes that of eyes-rolling-back blissed-out ecstasy, but they make noise. In their live show, the rolling waves of distorted melody over the bass-heavy drum machine (and the occasional live drum played by Power) rattle your chest, and it doesn't let up for their entire set.Fuck Buttons played May 21st at Music Hall of Williamsburg and the next night at (Le) Poisson Rouge, to finish up their short May tour. The duo play Europe this summer and will be back in the area for ATP NY in September. Erez summed up the MHOW show: "tons of energy. almost a spiritual vibe. lots of crowd chanting and lots of moshing / movement / energy release. good times."No applause breaks, no "songs" to single out. Sure, they played "Sweet Love for Mother Earth," and "Ribs Out," but now they were just movements in the larger work. And for once, and I am assuming this speaks for them, the crowd at the Troubadour was more into the show than their phones. All in all, it was a blistering performance. Even if Hung was wearing a Where's Waldo beanie the whole time. [Fuck Buttons @ LA's Troubadour on May 11] [via LA Weekly]
Oneohtrix Point Never - Brooklyn drone-man Daniel Lopatin - opened both of those shows. His new album, Returnal, comes out June 18th on Editions Mego. A track from it is posted above. Pitchfork is streaming another one which features Lopatin's own vocals, "and it's definitely the most straightforward melody he's composed so far."
