Grizzly Bear @ Coachella 2010 (more by Rachel Carr)
Grizzly Bear

Luke Benge: Has it been a wild ride? Since Veckatimest came out things been going pretty ape shit right?

Chris Taylor: Ha. It's been such a positive feeling apeshit, there have been constantly surprises coming about but I feel really lucky and I'm really excited so I can't really say that I'm feeling weathered by it. I've been recording a lot. So that's kind of been my life when I'm not on tour. Straight back to the studio every time I get off tour, it's literally like I was in the studio the entire time I was off from this last tour to this one. I'm producing Jamie Lidell's record now.

It was kind of weird to hear that Grizzly Bear was opening for Band of Horses (at Williamsburg Waterfront on June 20th), and I guess it's also kind of weird that the Walkmen are opening for Grizzly Bear at Governors Island on August 12th. Gang Gang Dance are also on the bill. $38 tickets (which is itemized as $33 + $5 for the round trip ferry ticket) go on sale Friday at noon.

The show is one of many happening at Governors Island this summer, some that cost money, and some that are free. Many more also still TBA. All GB dates, and a video of Chiddy Bang freestyling over "Two Weeks" and other songs, below...

This does not make any sense!

no need to stress about line up stratification. good bands. good shows, good venues. sounds great to me.

Posted by Elizabeth | May 18, 2010 1:59 PM

NO SAME DAY AS DEERHUNTER!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:00 PM

^^^ I love all three bands. I could care less what order they played. Best line up of the summer, maybe tied with that MIA festival thingy but tickets for that are bordering on 60 dollars.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:01 PM

YES THIS IS GONNA BE AMAZING AAAAAH

Posted by ben | May 18, 2010 2:07 PM

definitely worth the ferry ride... epic line up.

Posted by justin | May 18, 2010 2:11 PM

When are tickets on sale? I want

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:14 PM

GB with Band of Horses sounds like a great lineup, wish they were coming to LA. Oh well we will have to settle for Grizzly Bear with Girls & Phoenix at the Hollywood Bowl in September......

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:15 PM

grizzly bear fucking blows.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:19 PM

anon @ 2:19 is excited for the next matt and kim show

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:21 PM

The bill as it is makes sense as the Walkmen never escalated in popularity whereas Jay-freakin-Z likes The Grizzly Bear. Regardless, 33, 38 dollars is retarded. Absolutely retarded. This is a 20 dollar show at most.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:21 PM

33 bucks to see 3 pretty big bands? Sure beats 35 bucks to see passion pit. or 60 bucks for MIA

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:22 PM

wheres the deerhunter show?

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:23 PM

$33 is a steal for this lineup. these guys all put on an amazing show

Posted by b | May 18, 2010 2:25 PM

this is great, have been waiting to see The Walkmen for so long!

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:29 PM

Relieved I didn't get th band of horses tickets this is a WAY better lineup

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:32 PM

Walkmen just played a few shows in NYC 2:29!

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:33 PM

I CAN'T WAIT TO TAN AT THAT SHOW, I WILL BE NEON BRONZE! GRIZZLY BEAR IS PERFECT FOR TANNING. I can't think of anything I'd rather crisp to. I want to tan so hard my soul turns black like a burnt leaf on Halloween. Who the fuck are the Walkmen?

Posted by TANONYMOUS | May 18, 2010 2:35 PM

Anon 2:23pm
Free Deerhunter/Real Estate show @ Pier 54 Hudson River Park.....

I'm not surprised Grizzly Bear is headlining this....aren't they more popular than the Walkmen? Nothing against the Walkmen at all! Wonderful to see GGD will be on this bill as well:)

Posted by Jonny Greenwood is the man | May 18, 2010 2:37 PM

OHHHH WAIT. They're that band that was on THE O.C. right? Now that was a good show about sun tans. I think this whole lineup is GOLD.

Posted by TANONYMOUS | May 18, 2010 2:37 PM

hmmmm GB outdoors? not so sure about that one

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:38 PM

do you think Grizzly Bear will the same length set at the Waterfront show and this one? I know they're opening at the waterfront but maybe both bands do full sets?

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:39 PM

GB outdoors? OF COURSE. airy summer songs get even more beautiful when you have the breeze blowing. fact. plus i bet it'll be a longer set because it's a headlining gig. it'll be amazing.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:41 PM

Such a great line-up, although I would pay double that just to see Grizzly Bear because I LOVE THEM.

Posted by John | May 18, 2010 2:43 PM

CORRECTION: Obviously $66 is too much to see any band. I just got excited when I saw Grizzly Bear was playing. Anyway, I'M THERE.

Posted by John | May 18, 2010 2:47 PM

^^^ was going to say anon, anything over 50 bucks seems crazy. Still paying for this shows beats out a free deerhunter meltdown.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 2:49 PM

VERY ACCEPTABLE.

Posted by boop | May 18, 2010 3:43 PM

Man, that's expensive. But much better than seeing bradford have a mental breakdown.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 3:43 PM

Seeing gang gang dance is generally 15 bucks. Seeing Walkmen is generally 20-25 bucks. Seeing grizzly bear is usually 20-25. All three of them together MUCH cheaper than seeing them sep. win.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 3:51 PM

"deerhunter meltdown."

i've seen atlas sound and deerhunter about 7 times. never seen a breakdown or a meltdown.

Posted by aaron | May 18, 2010 4:32 PM

i agree. i don't think there are actual meltdowns at deerhunter shows. they are totally solid live.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 4:39 PM

not fucking fair

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 6:07 PM

hello hipsters. this is jay-freakin-z. i like the grizzly bear.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 7:44 PM

that is one sweet lineup. I'm so so stoked that GB are playing a real NYC show this summer!

If you haven't seen them over the past year, their live show is on another level

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2010 11:53 PM

fucking amazing line-up! too bad is in governors island.

oh well, seeing deerhunter on the same day will make me forget about it... maybe.... but it's grizzly bear and the walkmen!!! :(

oh well, i'm pretty much broke. deerhunter it is.

Posted by dee | May 18, 2010 11:56 PM

errr DEE don't be a fool and choose the deerhunter show over this one. It's worth it alone for gang gang. and Governor's island is amazing.

White rabbits/Deerhunter, while ok are nothing on this line up

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2010 12:16 AM

If these tickets sell well enough, I bet they add a second show.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2010 1:29 AM

Grizzly Bore.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2010 8:52 AM

definitely not paying for a fairly expensive shows when there are TWO great free shows going on that night.

and deerhunter haven't had meltdown shows in a long time. the last one i remember is the cmj show when they played bowery after dan deacon. in the past couple of years they have been outstanding live.

and white rabbits just keep getting better and better. the bowery show in january was a kick ass time.

gb are kind of boring. i would see them, but it's not a big deal. walkmen are fucking awesome, but they play around here often and that's too expensive to see them playing an opening set. especially considering they opened for Dinosaur Jr last summer for FREE and i'd PAY to see dino 100 times before i'd pay to see gb.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2010 9:17 AM

When are these on sale? Fuck Deerhunter

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2010 9:49 AM

does anyone have the presale code?

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2010 10:52 AM

Grizzly Bear remind me of a younger Manowar.

Posted by HeavyStreet | May 19, 2010 2:01 PM

GOVERNOR'S ISLAND SUCKS!!!! AND SO DOES PAYING $40 FOR A TICKET TO A SHOW, CAUGHT THEM LAST SUMMER AT POOL PARTIES FOR FREE AND THAT WAS WORTH IT, TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY.

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 5:27 PM

WHY DOES BROOKLYN VEGAN SUCK BOWERY'S DICK SO HARD. HOW MUCH ARE THEY PAYING YOU DAVE YOU FUCKING SELLOUT!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 5:29 PM

Governors Island is the shit. Beautiful place to spend the day prior to a show...On mushrooms...What?!?

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 11:20 PM

Oh man this news is making me jizz in my butt.

After canceling a November 16th performance at SUNY Purchase due to back problems, musician Dan Deacon has returned to full force. On Saturday, February 20th, the visiting alumnus played late into the night at the Stood Student Center [ed: pronounced "'st(y)ood"]. His set was jam-packed with the crowd participation he's well-known for. Turning the Stood into one massive dance party Deacon seemed at home among the current student body.
