Passion Pit @ Terminal 5 in January (more by Samantha Marble)
Passion Pit

Passion Pit, The Black Keys and Ting Tings will all be playing free shows in NYC sometime soon. There's a Facebook event page for the shows, but very little information otherwise. They're being sponsored by Kin, which is a new Windows-based phone. Kin is also putting on two free shows in San Francisco - one with Yeasayer and one with NERD & Asher Roth - on May 8th.

Two of the bands playing NYC have other shows coming up in the city and world: check out our latest posts on Passion Pit and Black Keys.

Yeasayer headlined Webster Hall in NYC on Tuesday night.

Corporate sponsorship! Woo hoo.

Somehow Passion Pit seems like the perfect soul-less sell-out garbage to headline another corporate rock show.

Passion Pit should sell FourSquare on iPads or whatever fad electronic device is out right now. They'll have about the same shelf life.

what's up with all the "i just got back from my first year at college, i hate corporate america" talk? anyone with common sense knows that corporations are necessary for the advancement of certain aspects of society. and here they are, giving you free concerts from somewhat decent bands. and you're complaining about it.

also, having a band receive five figures to play a free show doesn't seem like a sell-out move; more like a win-win situation for everyone (band, fans, corporation). nobody at the concert actually thinks these bands are personally endorsing Microsoft and the KIN; the bands aren't gonna fucking market the KIN during their set. i personally love when shit like this happens. how can you not like a free show

five figures!?!?!?!?!?

Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2010 1:52 PM

1:48 has no soul.

Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2010 1:59 PM

1:52 what do you think a band makes on a show...they will easily get 20-30K for this show.

I saw Yeasayer in S.F. on Verizon's dime last night and it was pretty amazing. Although they sold that damn kin phone to the point of overload, the SHOW WAS FREE, I HAD THREE FREE JAMESON AND COKES, got a free tshirt, there were only 500 people there in a cool little venue, and the band was still playing JUST AS HARD.

Go to these shows, take what the corporate sponsorship is with a nod, and use their hospitality.
