DOWNLOAD: Sam Amidon - Walking on Sunshine (MP3)

Monday, May 24th, 2010 marks the 25th anniversary of Katrina and the Waves' classic song "Walking On Sunshine". To celebrate, the band has various things planned, one of which is a remastered version of the original song entitled "Walking On Sunshine 25". The song will be released this coming Tuesday on iTunes (and other fine download establishments). You can also listen to it right now in the new (but looks old) video below.
More importantly, I've teamed up with the band, and Primary Wave Music, to make a little EP featuring some of my favorite artists covering Katrina and the Waves songs. That's the cover of the EP with the big picture of the sun up there. It was designed by Nathan J Crow. Right above that is track number one. Download Sam Amidon's "Walking on Sunshine" now, for free, and stay tuned for more details coming Monday!

Is it just me or is this WAY too random?

random is good

Yes, random in the best way possible. Totally unique, surprising, and waaayyyy against the indie/hipster/force-fed-music grain. Kudos for doing something different

I'm just really, really glad that this wasn't done for any of the Huey Lewis and the News songs at the 25-year mark.
Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 4:56 PM
If you think Huey Lewis is bad, then you are a fucking idiot.

yeah random. love sam, but, like, why?

Cool. One of my fav songs of '85. Thanks BV.

"New Moon on Monday" Jan 1984... you could have had the sun and the moon covered if you did an EP for that one, but now it's a year late.

The girl from Nick & Nora for the "inevitable" movie?...

I am the guy who said it was random... it was entertaining random. Like if someone came up to me in the street and gave me 5 dollars... I mean it's money, and free... but only 5 dollars? :P
Kudos to Sam though... good stuff.

One of the best songs I´ve ever heard, but the original is better!

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were really good albums. Got them when they came out, still throw them on at times and think they're great. It saddens me when I hear bands from that era when I was a teenager and hear their new stuff and it's so clear how they've lost it, they sound desperate to recapture a sound/magic that they haven't had in 15 years (holy shit).... And then I realize that is not unlike a lot of us.

you dave haters can go fuck yourselves. bonnaroo 2010 was 4 of the best days of my life. the DMB and JayZ headliners at the main stage were two of the best shows I've ever seen, musically and production speaking. 2011 'roo is going to be amazing. Phish headlining?

they also played at a place called Tramps in april '99 losers. with qotsa. where were you? you guys sound pretty angry? go listen to something hip. whatever the fuck you think that is. why does james iha need to be in the band for them to be good? that makes no sense. so the band changed lineups. oh well.

Walking on sunshine is a classic song. I wonder if Sam Amidon sang the song as good as the original? Its quite a hard song to sing as well.
Posted by Summer Dresses | March 17, 2011 12:09 AM
Agreed, walking on sunshine is definitely a classic.
Posted by Angry Birds | March 29, 2011 8:22 AM
There are only 3 or 4 people who could have pulled this off and Sam Amidon is certainly one of them. Still not as good as the original but there again is that possible?

I'm not crazy about covers in general - they can bring about some gems, but in general I prefer a little originality. This one isn't bad, but it doesn't change my opinion. Still, you can't argue with the price and I like their energy.

I've started a climate change project called proxEarth.org. Many people have blogs, websites, and use social software sites (social networking, social bookmarking, photo and video sharing, etc.). Some standards for tags and text on blogs, websites, and social software sites could turn the whole global Internet into a kind of Web 2.0 participation platform for climate change. I’m suggesting a few simple standards for tags and text that leverage processes of the sustainable ProxThink growth model. To get this going, we need people to adopt and use these standards. The project could also use contributors, collaborators, partners, funders and sponsors. To find out more, see:

I’ve looked through the threads, but I’m wondering if anyone has experience or anecdotal info about applying while abroad during PC service.
I’ll be in Benin, West Africa, from July 2010-July 2012 and want to start med school in the summer/fall of 2012 right when I get back. I guess that means I submit AMCAS in June 2011? I would also have to come back for interviews? Is there anyway to coordinate with the schools so I could interview at several places in the same couple weeks? It’s so expensive to fly back I’m not sure I could make more than one mid-service trip.
Does anyone know if the $6000 readjustment allowance could possibly be used to travel for interviews? Probably not…
Anyway, just thought I’d ask. Seems sort of like a logistical nightmare, but I’d really rather not have to wait another year when I’ll be back in time to start in 2012!
