the Night Marchers @ Fun Fun Fun Fest 2009 (more)
Night Marchers

The Village Voice, the nation's largest alternative weekly newspaper, is excited to announce the addition of THE NIGHT MARCHERS, CYMBALS EAT GUITARS, EARL GREYHOUND, SCREAMING FEMALES and WYE OAK to the line-up for the 10th Annual SIREN MUSIC FESTIVAL at Coney Island, NYC on Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 12:00 noon - 9:00 p.m. These artists join scheduled performers MATT AND KIM, TED LEO AND THE PHARMACISTS, THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART, SURFER BLOOD and HARLEM with more to be announced.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in historic Coney Island, SIREN has solidified its status as a leading New York City outdoor music festival, drawing over 100,000 music fans each year. With over 120 bands making their mark at SIREN over the last decade, this year will recognize SIREN's roots with the first ever return of past performers. MATT AND KIM and TED LEO AND THE PHARMACISTS will be heading back to the SIREN stage to celebrate. This free, all ages, all day festival is not to be missed.
So that was the July show Wye Oak were talking about.

pitchfork best new music fest.

the only new band that I see that got best new music is Cymbals Eat Guitars, and anyway what's your point

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:03 PM

WORST. SIREN. LINEUP. OF. ALL. TIME.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:04 PM

screaming females. sweet.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:05 PM

100,000 will definitely not be there this year hahahha

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:07 PM

Not gonna knock it to hard because...let's face it...it's 100% free. That being said, I'm surprised at how weak this year's lineup is overall. So this is where we're at in 2010 huh?

Posted by blackhat | May 26, 2010 3:10 PM

Hot Snakes.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:12 PM

the pains of being pure at heart - best new music
cymbals eat guitars - best new music
surfer blood - best new music

those are the 3 new p4k bands making the rounds. these other bands have all gotten great p4k scores though. i don't mind surfer blood or POBPAH - but cymbals eat guitars - FUCK that band. so derivative. i want to hit the singer in the mouth when he does that obnoxious wail shit.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:12 PM

yeah, this year is DEFINITELY lacking an MIA / BSS / Malkmus / Built to Spill sized act. maybe ted leo, but he's not really that size.

what the fuck? get someone that i can't see at mhow every other week.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:14 PM

What has 2 thumbs and would rather stay home to watch The Life and Times of Tim???

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:15 PM

I'm guessing Matt & Kim are the main stage headliner

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:16 PM

Hey 3:15, the show isn't mandatory. You have the option not to go and keep your internship-having mouth shut

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:17 PM

Why are you complaining about "Best New Music"? Would you rather they booked bands that suck?

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:17 PM

Wait, 3:17, so are you saying that because Shitfork says the band is "best new music" that they don't suck? Cause then you are maybe one of the biggest loser idiots to comment on here in a while. And believe me that list is long so good job.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:23 PM

yeah, anything that isn't best new music sucks. i read pitchfork everyday. i like cymbals eat guitars...indie!!!!!!!

Posted by sheep | May 26, 2010 3:27 PM

this lineup is great. Just get rid of Matt & Kim and it should just be a two-stage fest at Webster Hall.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:30 PM

Just because Pitchfork likes a band doesn't mean you have to hate on the band. Try being happy for a band for once.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:31 PM

MAJOR FAIL

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:33 PM

Maybe they are trying to make Siren a smaller thing this year? Siren could be a bit more bearable if you could just casually drop by instead of having to camp out for hours if I want to have any chance of watching a band from closer than 1000 feet.

Posted by Aaron | May 26, 2010 3:38 PM

People who will shit on a band just because Pitchfork gave them a good review are being just as obnoxious as the publication itself.

If you don't like it, don't go. Stay home and gloat about other people having fun at a free show listening to free pop music in the summer air.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:45 PM

This years line-up minus matt & kim and cymbals eat guitars is pretty good. It's free so i won't drink the haterade.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:45 PM

Cymbals Eat Guitars kick ass

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:48 PM

"What has 2 thumbs and would rather stay home to watch The Life and Times of Tim???"

"Hey 3:15, the show isn't mandatory. You have the option not to go and keep your internship-having mouth shut"

Yes exactly, that's why I'm not going. Was there a hidden meaning in the lone sentence I previously wrote? Analytical English major??

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:50 PM

Add Twilight Sad as well. They listed it in their upcoming dates.

Love the lineup so far.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 3:59 PM

The "This year's Siren sucks!" threads from four years ago were so much better than this year's "This year's Siren Sucks!" threads.

Posted by J | May 26, 2010 4:06 PM

"Maybe they are trying to make Siren a smaller thing this year? Siren could be a bit more bearable if you could just casually drop by instead of having to camp out for hours if I want to have any chance of watching a band from closer than 1000 feet."

umm... I've never had to camp out to get close to the headliners. Just show up during the act before. I was right up front for Malkmus a couple of years ago and only got to that stage during Islands' set.

Love love love Siren! even if they don't have a huge headliner this year... it's still gonna be a blast.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 4:07 PM

Pick up the slack JellyNYC. Announce the fucking Pool Parties already. Everyone else has a press release out every other week.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 4:11 PM

you people are crazy. this lineup rules. yeah there's no big headliner, but whatever. less people = less annoying crowds.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 4:12 PM

Fucking pumped to see Surfer Blood and Cymbals Eat Guitars outside at Coney Island for free. So sick.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 4:14 PM

there's more to siren than the music. it's about drinking big beers in the sweltering heat on hot pavement, inbetween gorging on hot dogs and riding the cyclone. maybe i'll check out a couple of bands... but it's not a big deal who's playing it.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 4:16 PM

Yeah!!! Earl Greyhound. They are great, mofos should have a bigger following.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 4:22 PM

people need to have an open mind. i went the MIA year mostly to see her and she was awful. but i saw elvis perkins randomly right as i got there and it was awesome. i left a fan of him.

that year was funny seeing people read the last harry potter book at the concert (it was the day it came out). shows how excited people were about those books.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 4:24 PM

Maybe they don't have as many big name draws this year b/c Coney Island is in a shitty transition. The old Coney Island is dead. I'm less inclined to want to go for that very reason.

Posted by M | May 26, 2010 4:24 PM

"100,000 will definitely not be there this year hahahha"

more like: 100,000 have definitely not be there any year hahahha

and yet VV keeps making those ridiculous attendance claims year after year. it's rather amusing

the attendance for all the past years combined MIGHT be close to 100,000. Maybe.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 4:26 PM

I really thought they were gonna add Murder City Devils since they are playing maxwells the night before.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 4:27 PM

i'm not hating on these bands because pitchfork likes them...i'm hating for them because they are bad bands. i like surfer blood fine...regardless of pitchfork. but fucking cymbals eat guitars made me want to projectile vomit everywhere. so derivative and annoying.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 5:30 PM

^that's a strong reaction bro. did you put on some surfer blood to make the bad thoughts go away?

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 5:50 PM

This thread is only okay, could use a couple more headline-worthy snark posts and less filler. But hey, it's free.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 5:50 PM

EARL. FUCKING. GREYHOUND.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 6:03 PM

the night marchers are gonna put every one of those bands in their place. end of story.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2010 11:55 PM

i guess i going to chicago

Posted by Anonymous | May 27, 2010 12:15 AM

YAWN

Posted by Anonymous | May 27, 2010 12:35 AM

Seen every NYC Night Marchers so far. They are going to rip heads off.

Posted by Anonymous | May 27, 2010 2:00 AM

Screaming Females put Night Marchers to shame

Posted by the truth | May 27, 2010 2:08 AM

I was just saying how I wanted to see the Night Marchers again....I guess I have to go to this clusterfuck.

"The truth" is that no one will be putting Night Marchers to shame until the Wipers decide to hit the road.

Posted by Anonymous | May 27, 2010 12:23 PM

any DJ's?

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2010 3:43 PM

i hear Obits are playing too.
sooo...

how about a Hot Snakes set??!

JEHU?!

Pitchfork maybe??!?! -- am i dreaming too much? probably

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2010 10:35 AM

mehhhhhhhhh @ this lineup. ted leo and screaming females are the only bands worth to see

Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2010 10:30 PM

these comments...

its a free scremales show, there's a beach and you can ride the cyclone. ted is a little tired, but still pretty much rocks. just bring your one-hitter and have a good time for christ's sake. or don't go.

god i love coney island.

I can really pinpoint which is the biggest crowdsourcing website (in terms of brand recognition). There are always seem to be a new one popping up which I've never heard. This time it's Crowdflower. The learning continues...
