"happy to see Sleigh Bells packing Ridgewood Temple, sadly secret famous guest is ill, won't be appearing. mild bummer, awesome show" - Todd P

Sleigh Bells

"Yeah, people were going bonkers. There were a lot of cameras and a lot of guest list action going on, but people came to rock. "A/B Machines", "Kids," "Crown On The Ground"? Total bangers." [Fluxblog]
Celebrating the digital release of their new album on the same day that anyone who cares heard it (stream it at NPR now), Sleigh Bells headlined a sold out show at Ridgewood Temple in NYC last night (5/11). Not only was a special guest originally advertised, M.I.A. did actually show up to the band's show at Coco66 a few days earlier. No such luck this time (see above). Cults and Sundelles opened the show. More pictures and SB's setlist below....

Nice pictures, but you guys got any music from the set?

meh bells

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 11:54 AM

lol HYPE

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 11:55 AM

Why again are we supposed to care about this band? Do dig Sundelles tho.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 11:57 AM

A lot of cameras is an understatement, during the opening acts I think more people were taking pictures of the bands than watching them. To the guy behind me who was going to "kill whoever was ruining his shot," it's not my fault you're so damn short.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 11:58 AM

so much hype.
the cameras just about outnumbered the amount of people.

and really - 4 photographers on a small stage with 2 performers?

why have shows lost being about the "experience"?
why are they all about "documenting"?

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 12:19 PM

TREATS sounds crazy. its good.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 12:23 PM

great photos

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 12:34 PM

If you compress anything that much it will sound crazy. They use it like others would use auto tune. Strange times.

chick from cults is hot.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 12:57 PM

Dumb bells

Both this band and the people who go see them.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 12:59 PM

Massive Attack > Sleigh Bells

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 12:59 PM

Chick from Cults is hot. Alexis (Sleigh Bells) is hot too. I bet tons were trying to cop a feel yesterday when she went into the crowd. PERVS!

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 1:01 PM

Sure, they're hyped, but Treats is awesome. They've got actual SONGS, and they're good. Deal with it.

"Sure, they're hyped, but Treats is awesome. They've got actual SONGS, and they're good. Deal with it."

Says you, dumb bell. Saying that is like saying Dan Deacon is the Mozart of this generation(and you just know this idiot 1:11pm and others think that)

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 1:32 PM

this will be the quickest rise and fall of a band ever. Buzz will inflate and then quickly destroy this band, by year's end.

Oh well. At least she's got her teaching job

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 1:36 PM

What's she teach? Tattoo artistry?

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 1:40 PM

Sleigh Blue Balls. they're overhyyyped fucks

Posted by charlie | May 12, 2010 1:50 PM

Sleigh Bells are AWFUL live.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 1:54 PM

Cults made this show for me. Cant wait to see them again.

Singer is really hot - reminds me of the girl from 'Glee'

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 1:55 PM

What is 'Glee'?

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 2:02 PM

Cults played a 20 minute set and they're already on Windish Agency? Didn't they say this was one of their first shows?

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 2:12 PM

Don' hate. Good set.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 2:16 PM

sleigh bells need a drummer or some other people in the band besides just the guy. backing track gets flat

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 2:22 PM

sleigh bells < vampire wknd

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 2:25 PM

YAWN

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 2:30 PM

Whether they suck or not, look how many comments there are on this thread. They'll be playing T5 in a year. Or less.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 2:47 PM

Really really wanted to like Cults. That one song that starts their little bandcamp EP is fantastic... but... yawwwn...

I feel bad for bands like these guys (and girl). They made a great record, and get so much hype that they are in the position to be seriously judged at their first few shows.

I thought they were pretty boring and not very tight, but give them a year of playing shows, and I'm sure they'll get better.

Posted by jay | May 12, 2010 2:51 PM

1:11 is right. So many awful bands (often praised on BV for a minute) only have mood, texture and attitude to offer. THOSE are the bands we'll never listen to again. It's refreshing to hear a band that knows its way around a hook and melody, you know, actual songs. Whether you like it or not, people will go back to these songs, long after the hype dies down.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 3:07 PM

you all are dogging on sleigh bells and saying cults is good, that chick couldn't hit a stressed note to save her fucking life.

Posted by tim | May 12, 2010 3:23 PM

"you all are dogging on sleigh bells and saying cults is good, that chick couldn't hit a stressed note to save her fucking life."

Who gives a shit about stressed notes? A good song is a good song. A good act/band is a good act/band even if the "chick" doesn't go for stressed notes.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 4:01 PM

The girl from cults is ACTUALLY singing u Dumbshit.. her mic is actually on and she is actually singing with a full band behind her...emo sleigh bore Ashley simpson is doing karaoke up there...her mic isn't even on it's a fucking backing track...they r plugging in their iPod and dancing around like the blood brothers...stressed note? Ha ur an idiot

Posted by Friendly johnny | May 12, 2010 4:02 PM

girl from cults is hot [3]

Posted by jack | May 12, 2010 4:18 PM

New rule: when you shit on a band on BV comment board you have to actually name a band you like. Y'all sound like a buncha cranky Andy Rooneys up in this motherfucker

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 4:28 PM

Kids and Crown on Ground are same song

wtf is Rill Rill? Ring Ring?

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 4:41 PM

i was there and it was one of the best shows ive been too ever, theyre awesome

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 4:44 PM

Lol @nerds saying Sleigh Balls are musical, gonna be playing T5 in a year and that people will care even a month from now.

Seriously a bunch of fucking clueless idiots you are and with the worst taste in music.

And 4:29,you can shove that new rule of yours right up your asshole, loser.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 4:51 PM

When a song gets (pleasantly) stuck in my head for more than 6 MONTHS, that's how long I've been caring for it, and it's not about to stop.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 4:58 PM

Sleigh bells is digital breakdowns with fem vocals. Dance party mosh pit!

Posted by danceisthenewmosh | May 12, 2010 5:13 PM

Sounds like all you have opinions but really didn't know what a stressed note is. It's when she sings harder from the chest. Then the band is in key and she is flat. It was awful, just sayin'

Posted by tim | May 12, 2010 6:34 PM

gotta go home

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 6:48 PM

Cults made the show

Posted by jakarta | May 12, 2010 7:54 PM

Again with the stressed notes?

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 8:01 PM

Sleigh Bells = Crap

I canmt belive ppl spend their money on that bunch of nothing

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 9:24 PM

hipsters gonna hate

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 10:39 PM

come on. Cults was the worst bullshit music can fart out! That girl cant hit a note for her damn life, and those guys look like they read Rockers for Dummies. give me a break. i cant believe even if you liked them, that you would admit it to anyone.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 10:40 PM

This is insane. Both sleigh bells and cults were awesome! Like sleigh bells said they probably weren't that good in the beginning. No reason to judge them so soon. I can't wait to see both bands next time they come through

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2010 12:12 AM

what would happen if all the underground music you hipsters all liked suddenly became popular?

like what if Cults suddenly got press from major news outlets. would everything you believe in cease to be real?

or would you just hang around message boards hating on them like you do with Sleigh Bells?

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2010 12:15 AM

Great sets. I was thouroughly impressed.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2010 12:55 AM

CUNTS

Posted by dopeshow | May 13, 2010 10:05 AM

i think it's pretty clear which commenters were at the show and which are just spewing their negative opinions for negative's sake.

sleigh bells were more fun than any band i can remember seeing in a long time, and i dare you to show me someone in that place that wasn't having a great time.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2010 12:00 PM

The girl from Cults was painfully off-key the whole time. Maybe it was just a bad night though - everyone has nights they can't hear themselves right. But seriously, ouch. But what's not just a bad night is how boring their music was.

I don't tend to agree with the current hype, but Sleigh Bells are awesome. And I think they actually will have some staying power - but we'll see. For now, I'm just glad to see a worthwhile band actually getting picked up by some more mainstream media. For once.

Posted by Radio Flyer | May 13, 2010 1:11 PM

WAH! Stop liking the Cults...WAAAAHHHH! Ok?

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2010 8:22 PM

Didn't go to the show, never heard of any of these bands but I love reading how much you losers all bitch. I produce concerts and have worked with shitty over-hyped bands and bands that don't get the recognition they deserve. Either way I respect them all for making music. Also, I get shit load of pussy so don't really waste time trying to impose my "good taste," in music on others. Hahaha Brooklyn fucking sucks!

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2010 10:26 PM

Oh, BNM on Pitchfork, so they must be genius, what the fuck did I know?

Sleigh Bells aren't the second coming or anything but they WILL stick around. Songs that catchy, coupled with a slightly new production angle= at least a year of growing popularity, if not more. Derek deserves it, IMO. That dude is a serious music devotee who's never backed down from his vision, whether it was in a hardcore band or a dance club.

Anyone who crowd surfs and is not David Yow is a dillweed.

Posted by Ugh | May 19, 2010 4:12 PM

so much hate on sleigh bells for nothing. You all are ridiculous for hating on Sleigh Bells because you know that in two months you're going to be like "fuck yeah, sleigh bells, they're so good" I pity all of you for not understanding that they're actually refreshing in a tired ass music scene where vampire weekend's new album sounds like the same damn song over and over again.

Posted by Anonymous | May 22, 2010 9:35 PM

sleigh bells are the poster children for american apparel

Posted by Anonymous | May 25, 2010 2:46 PM

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were really good albums. Got them when they came out, still throw them on at times and think they're great. It saddens me when I hear bands from that era when I was a teenager and hear their new stuff and it's so clear how they've lost it, they sound desperate to recapture a sound/magic that they haven't had in 15 years (holy shit).... And then I realize that is not unlike a lot of us.
