Small Black & Washed Out @ The Bell House

[Beach House's] opener, Washed Out, one-man band Ernest Greene, also showed command in his performance, which is a challenge for a solo artist/performer. The music was literally ringing, as he vibrated the venue with synthesizers and looped vocals. Though Washed Out managed to have a strong presence playing alone (a combination of sick beats + him prancing around with microphone in hand), his set really came alive when the band members of Small Black joined him on stage for the latter half of his set. They played a show together the night before at the Bell House and it was evident that there was amazing chemistry there. [Morning After Pills]Washed Out opened for Beach House at Webster Hall on May 6th as part of their tour together. The night before that, as pointed out above, Washed Out played a show at the Bell House in Brooklyn with his other recent tour-mates, Small Black, who also double as his band. The pictures in this post are from that show. SB & WO travel to Europe together at the end of May.
Small Black next plays a hometown show on a Wednesday, July 14th at Mercury Lounge with "Special Guests." Tickets are on sale. It's the final date of a currently-very-short U.S. tour.

Can't wait for these bands to go the way of Telepathe and White Williams.

I thought I was the only one who thought so! i was at this and Small black f'ng sucked. the live bass and drums did not mix with the electronics well at all and it sounded like a pile of crap. The best part of the night was Washed Out solo- but then ball sack came back out and ruined the rest of the night

Just commenting that I thought small black really sucked live. Several of the recorded songs are good, but they are by no means a decent live band in any way shape or form.
