Summer On the Hudson

"Summer On the Hudson", which takes place in Riverside Park South (W 59th St to W 72nd St at the Hudson River), is in its 10th year. Their events include Acoustic Sundays on Sunday nights (July 11-August 15) and Movies Under the Stars (July 7-August 11). Bands include the indie-pop Xylos, reggae-funk Meta and The Cornerstones and Slavic Soul Party. Put em on your almost-full-and-still-growing calendar of free NYC summer shows.

July 28: The Fall
Directed by Tarsem Singh, 2008, Rated R. In a hospital, an injured stuntman begins to tell a fellow patient, a little girl with a broken arm, a fantastical story about 5 mythical heroes. Thanks to his fractured state of mind and her vivid imagination, the line between fiction and reality starts to blur as the tale advances.

August 4: Big Fish
Directed by Tim Burton, 2004: PG13. With Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange, Helena Bonham Carter A story about a son trying to learn more about his dying father by reliving stories and myths his father told him about himself.

Aug 11: Stranger Than Fiction
Directed by Marc Forster, 2006; PG. With Will Ferrell,, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emma Thompson. An IRS auditor suddenly finds himself the subject of narration only he can hear: narration that begins to affect his entire life, from his work, to his love-interest, to his death.
