The Dead Weather @ Coachella (more by Rachel Carr)
The Dead Weather

The Dead Weather have a new album, Sea of Cowards, coming out May 11th on Third Man Records/Warner Bros. As a preview of the record, the band will play it straight through at the Third Man building in Nashville on Monday, May 3rd, at 6pm (today), a set that'll be streaming on Myspace. The record is also streaming at NPR.

The band just played the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on May 2nd. Here's a review of their set:

White Stripes honcho Jack White led his latest alt-rock ensemble, the Dead Weather, in a compact but potent romp through moody and scarifying guitar-centric songs, mostly from the Horehound album. Alison Mosshart's vocals and flailing theatrics competed for attention with White's no-holds-barred guitar attacks and usually lost. Until the final song, that is: "Will There Be Enough Water?," delivered during a steady drizzle, found them both in peak form, playing with whisper-to-scream dynamics and flattening the audience. [USA Today]
...I wonder if the USA Today reviewer realizes that Jack White mainly plays drums in the band whose other upcoming shows include sets at Bonnaroo and Glastonbury. They'll also be playing a Celebrate Brooklyn show at Prospect Park on August 3rd (details forthcoming, but it will cost money). Update: full tour announced. All dates below.

Jack White's wife Karen Elson has her own outside summer show coming up. She plays with Band of Horses and Grizzly Bear at Waterfront on June 20th. Tickets are on sale for that.

Also on the horizon for Jack White: a possible White Stripes "reunion". What he's said about that, all tour dates, album art, tracklist and the video for the album's first single are below...

White Stripes reunion?

THE WHITE STRIPES are on the verge of reuniting after bandmember MEG WHITE recovered from the anxiety problem that caused the group to split.

The band was forced to cancel a string of gigs in 2007 because of Meg's condition, forcing them into hiatus.

But he reveals he has been spending more and more time with Meg, and hints he's open to a reunion.

White says, "I don't think her anxiety exists anymore.

"She is still involved and everything."

But White admits the reunion could take a while - because they've never planned ahead. He adds, "We've never sat down and gone, 'Okay, so don't forget to block out three months.' We never did that, even in the thick of craziness of The White Stripes, I have nothing planned after this month coming up, but I know that it all will be filled up really fast. [Contact Music]

Careful people. Jack may read your negative comments and blog about it and condemn the Internet for letting you people give your opinions.

Yeah I have been pretty bored by everything this band has put out... White Stripes are far far far superior Raconteurs at a distant second and this band is a mere fart on the radar....

crazy thing is the drums on this and almost every dead weather track kick ass... should just be a jack white drum band with that goofy bassist

All the bad comments are from people who have not seen them live...

"All the bad comments are from people who have not seen them live..."

Having not seen them live, I can believe that - there is serious TALENT in this band - but the gimmick for this act is the least appealing gimmick Jack has ever cooked up. Innocent, pie-eyed country and blues rocker works way better for him than swagger-filled cockrocker.

The White Stripes are going to play their second "reunion" show for Spin's 25LIVE this July. The first is going to be a warm-up gig in Detroit at Saint Andrews Hall, also this July.

Anybody know the code for the Vault presale?

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2010 4:15 PM

Their last show at Music Hall of Williamsburg six months ago (or whenever it was) was one of the most intense performances I have ever seen. EVERYONE who left the venue was speechless. It was f'ing unbelievable.

Just sayin.

the chick ruins the band, i hate her. will never go see this dreck.

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2010 4:47 PM

I have to say, I saw them perform on the coachella feed and I got bored quick. looks to be stylized bull lacking substance and I'm not a hater...

Posted by Anonymous | May 4, 2010 2:12 AM

They have great pretty black outfits and remind me of many bands from the past. Go retro rock with an indie kick and cred.

This band rocks. Really not sure what everyone's hating for. I, for one, can't get enough.

I just listened to the new album. It's sucks. It sounds rushed and thrown together. Doesnt even compare to the first one

Wonderful post and the location is beautiful and elegant in design and information and everything>>> to Favorites
Amazing is an enormous understatement. One of the best electronic shows I've ever been to and I've seen well over a thousand concerts. I had no idea Vladislav Delay was as good a drummer & percussionist as he is- fabulous and he kept everything swinging with a very unique style of playing. If you missed this you missed out big time...
