The National

...though I don't know when it goes on sale or how tickets are working yet. The show will be a benefit, like Dark Was the Night, for the Red Hot Organization. A live webcast of the concert will be streamed from the Brooklyn Academy of Music on YouTube. The webcast will be directed by documentary filmmakeer D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus and it'll be the first live (like, actual live, as it happens) concert video directed by the husband and wife. Before the concert they'll show one of their short films. The show is being presented by ZYNC from American Express.

Stay tuned for more info on that, and what exactly will be happening at the High Violet Annex from May 11-15th. Meanwhile, stream High Violet at NPR.

UPDATE:
The Zync Facebook page now mentions the show.

This was just advertised as a special package on KEXP's morning show being broadcast in NYC but aimed at Seattle listeners. Winners will be flown to this show. What the heck???

man, severe ambivalence now; it's a launch party for AmEx ZYNC card.

"In celebration of the ZYNC Card launch, American Express will present a live in-venue and online concert with critically acclaimed Brooklyn band, The National, on May 15.

Advance tickets will be available for ZYNC Cardmembers to the in-venue concert before the general public on May 6 for $25 each. All ticket proceeds will benefit Red Hot, a leading international organization dedicated to fighting AIDS through pop culture."

Presumptive kudos to Dessners, stipulating benefit condition!

But as much as I need to attend, I can't reconcile $25 (annual enrollment) for ZYNC in order to buy $25 tix on Thurs -- $60 for a ticket, after TM fees?

Uggh. Well, at least there will be a public on-sale. Let's hope it's not another Bell House / Ticketweb situation.

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were really good albums. Got them when they came out, still throw them on at times and think they're great. It saddens me when I hear bands from that era when I was a teenager and hear their new stuff and it's so clear how they've lost it, they sound desperate to recapture a sound/magic that they haven't had in 15 years (holy shit).... And then I realize that is not unlike a lot of us.
