The National

"Tickets did go on sale at the pre-sale link b/c it now says "No Inventory Currently Available".

If you try to purchase via BAM's website, you get the following message: "Although tickets are on sale, this performance of The National is currently not available online. Please contact BAM Ticket Services"

I talked to someone in the ticket office who said tickets did go on sale via BAM's website this morning and are sold out, but more tickets may become available & to check back" [Brett]

Comments like that yesterday illustrated the confusion surrounding how to get tickets for the show The National are playing at BAM on May 15th, but Beggars, Bowery Presents & the band's original instructions all confirm that, despite what someone at BAM may have said, tickets do go on general same today at 10am (and appear to be on sale as of 9am for BAM members). Yesterday, as advertised, was just the presale.

The National performed at Royal Albert Hall in London last night (5/6), and the UK's Electric Ballroom the night before that. All dates HERE. Videos from those shows below...

The National - Fake Empire (Live @ RAH) - 5/6

The National - Abel (Live @ RAH) - 5/6

The National - Mr. November @ Electric Ballroom - 5/5 (bad sound, but must see)

saw the national at BAM on the boxer tour. it was awesome. probably my favorite show that i saw them on that tour (includes one of the bowery shows, a couple opening slots and some 930 club shows in dc). perfect venue for them.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 9:28 AM

best was at bowery. hands down.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 9:39 AM

Seems like the information for this onsale was handled by a four year old.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 9:55 AM

man. bam site is down.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:01 AM

BAM's website is screwed (and it still says they went on sale yesterday in the text on their site)

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:02 AM

WTF? Is anyone able to get Tix? It's 10:03 and they arent't on sale at BAM's site OR The Bowery Presents site...

Posted by Scott | May 7, 2010 10:03 AM

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:04 AM

I pulled two balcony seats at 10:02.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:04 AM

the site is acting up and it says no tickets available.
god, this is such crap.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:04 AM

"This frame was blocked because it contains some insecure content."
Hate BAM so much

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:04 AM

Pulled up Row Q, side. Too far for me.

Posted by Cuse | May 7, 2010 10:05 AM

Fuck BAM. Fuck Bowery. Sloppy on-sale, guys. Get your shit together.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:06 AM

Has Price 3 Balcony, and partial view balcony tix showing. And says Call for Availability. this is F'ed, seriously, F this.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:06 AM

Finally, being a BAM member pays off!

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:07 AM

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:08 AM

bullshit bullshit bullshit. got all the way to credit card processing, and it crashed.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:09 AM

and fuck you, 10:07.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:10 AM

Makes no sense. It keeps telling me the different Levels of seating available on BAM's site, but it's never gets to the point where I can actually order tickets...

Posted by Scott | May 7, 2010 10:11 AM

Same here 10:11 ...can't seem to but tix for this

Posted by Burg | May 7, 2010 10:13 AM

stay strong fellas. remember, this is for the national. if you act like you deserve tickets, you will get them. never forget that.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:13 AM

scott: same.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:14 AM

Looks like i'm going to Philly

Posted by ROCK STARchitect | May 7, 2010 10:15 AM

Does anyone know if there is going to be an opening band?

Posted by jesse | May 7, 2010 10:15 AM

What a mess. Always like this with BAM.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:16 AM

Website tells me to call. Every time I call BAM, I either get a busy signal, or a message telling me the box office doesn't open until 10am... except it's already past 10am.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:16 AM

I can't find a page that will sell tickets. Under ticket information it says "Tickets go on sale Thu, May 6 at 10am." No links anywhere to purchase tickets. Any help?

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:17 AM

did anyone have any luck buying them over the phone? I cant even get through to anyone today - with messages saying the box office is currently closed. (even tho a minute later it says box office hours begin at 10am).

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:17 AM

i'd like the poster who commented "Finally, being a BAM member pays off!" to explain -- I am a member also, wasn't able to access the site at all ...tried yesterday, tried this morning, e-mailed and called the BO and got no word of early access for members ...

Posted by amnesiac | May 7, 2010 10:17 AM

If it went on sale yesterday and then crashed for many and then went on sale again today and then crashed - how in the hell are tickets being doled out???

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:18 AM

I bought a ticket on May 5, the day I received the email from the band. I really didn't read the email that closely and clicked on the link and was able to purchase a ticket on May 5, one day prior to the adverstised pre-sale. Maybe many others did so too, hence the extremely limited availability on the advertised pre-sale date.

Posted by Michael | May 7, 2010 10:19 AM

This has to be a joke right? Like some social experiment to see how long we'll keep at it...

Posted by Scott | May 7, 2010 10:19 AM

Bowery why do you subject people to BAM's bullshit ticket system? Amateurs.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:21 AM

I'm a BAM member too. Can't get shit through them. BUT I did buy yesterday from Etix. Got 'em.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:21 AM

is anyone having any luck on the bowery presents site? i've never had a problem with them and they usually make the buy link live right on time.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:22 AM

Ok, so it still doesn't want to sell me tickets on the internet, and no one at the box office wants to do anything but send me to a voicemail telling me they are closed... but the availability online keeps updating. That's something?

Incredibly frustrating!

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:22 AM

BAM? How about "dud"?

Posted by drewo | May 7, 2010 10:23 AM

The 'accidental on-sale' fucked me too. I saw the link was active, but wasn't curious enough to try to buy even though I saw the site had a button that allowed me to select how many tickets I wanted. They apparently only sold '100 tickets' that way, but that's still 100 people who got screwed by believing the e-mail.

Not to mention the fact that the etix link was supposed to be a 'fan club' onsale, and the fact that that link got passed around and posted on news as sites such as this screwed people as well. I'm not complaining, I hoped it wouldn't happen but knew it would anyway and I don't blame BV for letting people know about a ticket onsale.

And yet another problem - tickets yesterday actually went onsale through the BAM link, despite the fact that the National's e-mail stated you could buy them at the etix link.

A complete and utter clusterfuck, and probably the worst-handled on-sale I can think of.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:24 AM

Still no one at the BAM box office AND now any availability seems to be gone from the site. I'm guessing this is totally sold out.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:24 AM

Tix that weren't purchased at first around 10 a.m. are being released online now. Keep trying.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:26 AM

maybe this is what we get for not paying any service fees since the dough is going to a charity.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:27 AM

Site still crashing...it seemed I was going to get tix suddenly, then told none were available..I've no idea if it means it's sold out, but even when I call the box office number that they specifically put on the site for "questions", I get no answer. Fucking frustrating as hell.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:29 AM

looks like it might be back up - just got 3!

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:30 AM

error message.

Dear BAM,
Fuck you very much.
Sincerely,
10:31

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:31 AM

Keep trying people. I just got 3 tickets!

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:32 AM

I pulled two Orchestra Right side tix. Sweet.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:32 AM

still error message for me.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:34 AM

Geez. I've been trying since 10. I'm a member and the thing doesn't even show up. WTF?

Posted by Scott | May 7, 2010 10:35 AM

Has anyone managed to get through to the box office?

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:35 AM

Still get 'call for availability'

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:36 AM

i've been trying since 9:55.. almost ready to throw in the towel

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:39 AM

I'm "calling for availability" and no one is answering. Oh wait, the ticket services is "closed." WTF.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:40 AM

SUPER GHETTO. BAM, I really love the fact that your ticketing office is closed even though your message states normal business hours Monday-Friday. I also enjoy starting my Fridays irritated and angry. Get it together! 10 AM on-sale today (or yesterday) was a complete farce.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:40 AM

Was them joints ya'll just copped through BAM will call? Or are they mailing them?

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:40 AM

Everything is will call

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:41 AM

It lets you get to the "best option" pull down but then there's no pull down menu for seats?

Posted by TMT | May 7, 2010 10:43 AM

All ordered tickets are being held at the venue. You can pick them up from the box office before the day of the show, though.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:43 AM

>

Why did these people get "screwed"? Did those sales get rejected? Thanks

Posted by Karen | May 7, 2010 10:43 AM

Yeah, it's not like a popular band like the National (or Grizzly Bear of Sufjan) ever played BAM.

oh wait, they have.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:44 AM

BAM sucks my dick.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:45 AM

Now I'm getting error msgs like:
Although tickets are on sale, this performance of The National is currently not available online.

and

Single tickets for this production are currently not available to the general public. If you are a BAM member with advance access please login.

Oh and still no answer on the box office line.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:45 AM

Friend of mine bought over the phone yesterday morning and says the lady at BAM told her she got "literally, the last two seats." It doesn't sound like anyone knows what's going on.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:45 AM

10:44 that "Grizzly Bear of Sufjan" show was amazing....

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:46 AM

10:45, i tried buying over the phone early yesterday morning and got a really angry women telling me it's sold out.
totally useless.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:48 AM

What a complete failure.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:51 AM

What a bunch of amateurs.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:53 AM

My nuts!

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:58 AM

@ Karen: people got screwed because etix accidentally put tickets on sale on Wednesday. 100 tickets were sold before they should have been. That's 100 less tickets for people who tried when tickets officially went on sale.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:58 AM

Honestly people, stop whining. It's as if you have some special right to see the show...unfortunately 10000 other people want to go to and you missed out. deal with it.

Posted by Joe | May 7, 2010 10:59 AM

I think we need to go back to the days of lining up overnight on the sidewalk in front of the box office.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:02 AM

Seriously. Just buy them from a scalper. End of story.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:02 AM

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 10:58 AM

Thanks, I thought you meant my friend who purchased was screwed since she just clicked when she got the email and bought a pair of tix. But, i see your point and agree.

Posted by Karen | May 7, 2010 11:09 AM

Relax people. It's not the end of the world...I mean the National already has two sold out shows at Prospect Park (capacity 8000) and Radio City (capacity 5600). They're playing at BAM (capacity 1500 I believe?) and I bet they're saving a lot of tickets to be given away through radio stations (ex: KEXP), production company, YouTube (they're streaming the show so I bet the employees get free tickets to this as well) and etc.

Next time, stop putting blame on the band/BAM for the screw up. If you were on their newsletter, you were able to buy tickets in advance (yea it went onsale the day earlier than it was supposed to be but you always have to prepare for the unexpected things like that). There was no service charge for this show so thank you for not putting them up on ticketmaster.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:14 AM

Joe, you're missing the point here. It looks like misinformation, human error, and an inferior ticketing system has prevented people from getting a fair shot at tickets. It would be one thing if they went on sale at 10:00 and sold out at 10:01 but it looks like they've been doling out tickets for the last two days.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:14 AM

What a bunch of pussies today's music fans are. I still remember the good old days of lining up at a venue to buy my rock tickets in person. If you are a slave to your computer, then you don't deserve to go to a rock show anyway. Hipster loser pussies.

Posted by Rocky Napoli | May 7, 2010 11:15 AM

Got 2 balcony seats at 10:55. Keep hitting F5 as there could be hope yet...

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:16 AM

The best show as at NYU. Two of the greatest things I got as a result of a lifetime of student loans was The National on campus and The Arcade Fire and Judson Church.

Posted by Nick | May 7, 2010 11:24 AM

11:14 Couldn't agree more with you, especially like the "There was no service charge for this show so thank you for not putting them up on ticketmaster." part.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:26 AM

On the bright side my pre-order of High Violet & the Bloodbuzz 7" just showed up in the mail. Noice.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:35 AM

Is this no service fee thing the reason that BAM refuses to answer its box office line? I appreciate the no fees... but I also like receiving at least a modicum of service when I call, as opposed to reaching a voicemail telling me the box office opens at 10am, when I am calling AFTER 10am.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:36 AM

So sorry for the frustration that many of you experienced at BAM.org this morning. There were only a limited number of tickets available for The National and they sold out very, very quickly. Although we've had days with extremely heavy demand, this morning was unprecedented. We looking into the technical problems with the web site and will ensure clearer sold out messaging in the future. Thank you for your patience!

Posted by BAM | May 7, 2010 11:37 AM

What do you mean no service charge? I got hit with 6 bucks per.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:37 AM

Such a terrible love, this love for the national.

Posted by walking with spiders | May 7, 2010 11:41 AM

Only took me 99 calls to actually get through to a live person at BAM, who told me "the tickets are completely sold out" and HUNG UP ON ME. Seriously? Is that what people are trained to do? Just HANG UP?

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:41 AM

There wasn't supposed to be a fee? I bought four tickets yesterday and paid about $25 in fees. Think I can get a refund?

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:41 AM

Handling fees and facility fees = no service fees?

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:45 AM

this was such bullshit.. i don't even know.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:54 AM

total crock of shit. spent around an hour starting at 10 and got nothing. worst experience ever.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 12:03 PM

Now the website has a BUY button on the tickets page that redirects you to movietickets.com for a showing of "the Beguiled."

UM WTF?

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 12:09 PM

SOLD OUT!! Enjouy your concert ... I'm getting sushi

Posted by Burg | May 7, 2010 12:24 PM

Re: "The Beguiled"

Did you get to that movieticket.com page from a link or by refreshing a page inside your cart?

Can't find the error on the site.

Posted by Billy | May 7, 2010 12:25 PM

Even went to the box office and was told rudely: "That show is totally sold out." This after hours of trying to buy tix online. Complete logistical disaster...

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 12:29 PM

I refreshed bam.org/thenational and had a buy tickets link that took me to the movietickets.com page-- it's gone now and just says the show is sold out.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 12:58 PM

Thankfully I saw the 2 recent Bell House shows, which of course BAM won't hold a candle to, and now I can just sit back and laugh at all you idiots falling over themselves trying to get tickets to this.

As if this was the greatest event in the history of concerts. Hilarious. Especially the ones going "I got Balcony seats thank god" Loser, unless you are in the middle couple of rows at BAM the sound sucks. People watching the broadcast online will have a better listening experience than you.

And yes i know, fuck me and go fuck myself. I'm an asshole. Right, I got it.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 1:01 PM

"And yes i know, fuck me and go fuck myself. I'm an asshole. Right, I got it."

I'm going to go ahead and say it anyway. Fuck you. Go fuck yourself. You're an asshole. You're really criticizing people for being excited about getting tickets to a show? The internet is awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 1:16 PM

at least those of you who didn't get tickets can watch the live webcast on youtube!

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 1:53 PM

I'm sure that youtube webcast will go off without a hitch, too.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 2:57 PM

I was able to get 3 tickets over the phone at 11am. Once I got the automated system I never hung up. I pressed every option available and finally got a live voice. I was shocked. The ticketing system was a bit, how do you say, flawed.

Posted by brett | May 7, 2010 4:32 PM

Anyone who has bought tickets from BAM knows their system is awful. Rude staff on top of that. I've stopped going to any shows there because of it. Last time I went most of the tickets including mine weren't even scanning and there were a few people I saw who had the same seats. The place is a joke.

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 8:08 PM

i had no problems what so ever and bought my ticket by 10:10. i don't know maybe for once i was lucky.

Posted by Nicole Wallenbrock | May 7, 2010 8:35 PM

Wah! I didn't get BAM tickets! My pussy hurts!

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 9:39 PM

Fucking pussies still whining about this? Wow, what a shame that Brooklyn is home to you whining little bitches. Even more of a shame that we will have to house you faggots for an evening on 5/15.

Stop your bitching. The fucking concert is on YOUTUBE...what fucking luxury. Waaaaaahhhhhhhh. WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH. I'll have to watch it live online. WAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH. Homos.

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were really good albums. Got them when they came out, still throw them on at times and think they're great. It saddens me when I hear bands from that era when I was a teenager and hear their new stuff and it's so clear how they've lost it, they sound desperate to recapture a sound/magic that they haven't had in 15 years (holy shit).... And then I realize that is not unlike a lot of us.
