The National

The National's temporary venue next to Other Music in NYC opens on Tuesday, May 11th at 7pm. "Celebrating the release of 'High Violet' (May 11, 4AD), The National will take over the now-vacant space at 13 E 4th St next to Other Music in downtown NYC. Dubbed 'The High Violet Annex' the space will be the site of National curated events throughout the week." Ends up it will only be open for two three hours a day - a mix of live bands and DJs and contests and other stuff.

The National are rumored to be playing on at least one of the days, but it won't be the first day (5/11 - see below), the second day (5/12 - see below), and maybe it won't be the last day because if it is, the band is going to be in a rush (5/15 - the band plays BAM). I think this is really amazing of The National to curate something like this for NYC fans. If most people were to stop being cynical for a fucking second, they could see how lucky we are that this is happening. Not to mention, High Violet is pretty catchy and I could see it being better live.

Big LOL at 3:11 pre-emptively complaining about the complainers before they've shown up

I'm just covering my ground! I think this is amazing of the band to do this for us, and somebody's always got to hate on some good shit happening for somebody else.

I just got updated times - three hours each day, and was told that Saturday starts at 6pm "SHARP" meaning I guess that the guys from the National maybe plan on attending before they head to BAM.

I can't tell if BV's postulations on the National being the 6PM Saturday performance is based one educated guessing/wishful thinking or direct information that he is technically not allowed to leak. Either way, it is appreciated. With a giddy joy.

Is it cool to not like them yet since they have a pretty broad fan base now? I was just wondering if that was supposed to happen to a band that is fairly talented, and knows how to f*cking promote an album. God forbid an "indie" band should try and make money.

Amen lofi. Many of those who comment on message boards seem to be a bit jealous of success.

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were really good albums. Got them when they came out, still throw them on at times and think they're great. It saddens me when I hear bands from that era when I was a teenager and hear their new stuff and it's so clear how they've lost it, they sound desperate to recapture a sound/magic that they haven't had in 15 years (holy shit).... And then I realize that is not unlike a lot of us.
