LCD Soundsystem @ Webster Hall in April (more by Ryan Muir)
LCD Soundsystem

"New York likes art stars. When I was in DFA, we were seen as these crazy guys throwing these drug parties connected to some fashion show. That was cool to people. Now I'm just a guy in a band. I suppose what happened is that I spent my whole life wanting to be cool, but eventually came to recognise the mechanism of how coolness works. So it's not really that I don't want to be cool any more - it's more like I've come to realise that coolness doesn't exist the way I once assumed."
[says James Murphy to Chuck Klosterman]

LCD Soundsystem kick off their four-night Terminal 5 run tonight (Thursday, 5/20). All four shows are opened by Holy Ghost! and are/were sold out (you can check Ticketmaster as they always release tickets to shows). We have one pair to give away for tonight. Details below.

LCD's new album "This is Happening" is out (you can get it at insound and iTunes). AT iTunes you get a a bonus track - a cover of Paperclip People's "Throw". Reviews range from Best New Music to "LCD Soundsystem can do, and has done, much better" to "You wonder how he could share lyrics so half-baked" to "Despite occasional flashes of brilliance this is a patchy, derivative work."

After the T5 show on Saturday there's an after-party with DJs James Murphy, Pat Mahoney and plenty of friends at Highline Ballroom. Tickets are on sale. More details in the flyer, with the contest details and the new video for "Bye Bye Bayou" below...

funny, I like both LCD Soundsystem and Chuck Klosterman, but somehow seeing their two names together makes me want to vomit a little.....

Just don't get this band, maybe I'm finally getting too old for this shit. :-/

Does anyone know when This Is Happening will be available on vinyl in the US? I can't seem to find any info. You can order it from Amazon as a UK import for forty-two goddamn dollars.

Posted by Tumbleweed | May 20, 2010 11:26 AM

no date on the US Vinyl, but this from the LCD Twitter: "oh--by the way... to answer, we ARE doing US vinyl... i'm so sorry it's delayed. don't blame virgin.. blame us. dfa are putting it out"

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 11:28 AM

any guess about showtimes? when do T5 shows start?

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 11:39 AM

I've done you all a favor and translated that quote at the top:

"Vapid vapid inane vapid" is what it actually reads.

You can get 2x LP through here.....

but I don't think it's worth it with all those goodies! I'll just wait till next month or two...

Posted by Jonny Greenwood is the man | May 20, 2010 11:40 AM

I can't wait for the show tonight.

Posted by Dan | May 20, 2010 11:51 AM

when you're reach a higher level you gain a new perspective on coolness that others can't fathom

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 12:03 PM

Uh-Oh, LCD getting too big to be cool for flaky hipster dbags. THe new album is just as good if not better than the last. Nothing new but still genius. Still one of the best live shows around. Go listen to Beach House,or better yet Beach Fossils, i read somewhere that they are really really awesome but not too appealing so that the masses will ever catch on so they will always be cool man. Cool

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 12:20 PM

Yeah, I agree with 12:20. I'm surprised to see mixed reviews. If you do like this band this album is on point, I would say their best. And the live show...crazygonuts.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 12:35 PM

didn't that record come out last month?

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 12:43 PM

it came out tuesday, it leaked last month and has been streaming.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 12:45 PM

I love a good honest answer to a sarcastic question.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 12:47 PM

I can only imagine what kind of hipsters will be there for the next 4 nights....

Extra LCD SOUNDSYSTEM ticket just fell into my lap. Maybe it should simply go to the best looking girl in town. Drink after show perhaps? Consider this an off-the-wall blind date. If nothing else, we can at least talk about how great LCD Soundsystem are.

New album is not that good. Certainly not better than SoS. While it does have some amazing tracks, the terribleness of Drunk Girls is overwhelming, and Wanted a Hit is a throwaway. Good album to pick up digital but on vinyl you'd find yourself getting up to move the needle too much.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 1:18 PM

First you like LCD, no you don't....SHUT UP YOU WHINING MAGGOTS!!!

FTR, the new album is pretty awesome!

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 1:39 PM

Whats all the hype about with this guy? i just dont get it. In the US only SF, Chicago and new york is all that cares about this guy.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 2:00 PM

is Pat Mahoney gay?

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 2:08 PM

Are you?

"Whats all the hype about with this guy? i just dont get it. In the US only SF, Chicago and new york is all that cares about this guy."

does any other place in the US matter? They are massive in Europe as well u toolbox

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 2:18 PM

LA as well! Chicago, SF, and NYC....

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 2:21 PM

Box Office says LCD on at 9. That seems a bit early, but possible...

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 2:28 PM

Holy Ghost: 8-8:30
LCD: 9:05-10:50

I bet I bet

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 2:45 PM

Well.. the LCD backlash has officially begun.
I think it doesn't matter tho. James Murphy is probably smarter than his fans, and definitely smarter than his detractors.

Posted by oldandintheway | May 20, 2010 2:47 PM

I think LCD at Studio B in 2007 was one of the best shows I went to back then.....

anyone remember that show?

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 3:10 PM

hahhaha BV......

I never saw Studio B that packed - especially when LCD started (an hour after they were supposed to start which made it impossible for me to get to Manhattan to also see Dan Deacon) - it was PACKED. I started in the back, but eventually made my way up front where the dance floor resembled a mosh pit. My clothes quickly turned from dry to (sw)wet.

James made two things very clear:
1) He was drunk
2) The three songs at the end were not an encore. They were merely LCD Soundsystem going upstairs for a short break to ensure that they/he do/does not puke on stage.

P.S. all the posts used to be so much better back in the day.....

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 3:12 PM

>>I think it doesn't matter tho. James Murphy is probably smarter than his fans, and definitely smarter than his detractors.

Not an issue of who's smarter than who. I just don't like the music.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 3:25 PM

LCD usually gets on stage late, so expect them to start playing around 10, especially with weekend shows

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 3:26 PM

at which of the 4 terminal 5 shows will James be the drunkest?

Posted by me | May 20, 2010 3:27 PM

i wouldn't fuck around with starting times at T5, they can be pretty prompt.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 4:28 PM

Why the fuck didn't he use any Z's in that quote? Is he a Brit now?

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 4:37 PM

MEH Soundsystem

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2010 6:23 PM

You are all a bunch of fucking amateurs!

SETLIST

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 12:49 AM

What time did LCD hit the stage? Anybody?

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 8:43 AM

When I walked in around 9pm, Holy Ghost was finishing up....

then LCD hit the stage around 9:35 and played till about 11:25 with a beautiful version of that annoying Alicia Keys, "NY" song (sorry I just always hear that song blasting from someone's car/Ipod...but don't know the name)....

Setlist...I just remember the first two and last two songs...

Opened with Us vs Them....
2) Drunk Girls

Closed out with....
Losing my Edge (best crowd reaction)
NY I Love You.....(with a verse or two from Alicia Keys song...along with hundreds of baloons!)

Great show overall.....they really stepped it up last night but I feel like the crowd wasn't too bad. Massive Attack was a lot more crowded.

Posted by Jonny Greenwood is the man | May 21, 2010 9:06 AM

P.S. I'm guessing they will be playing one of 8 JellyNYC free Sunday shows at the Waterfront this summer.....

or play there for $40 in August:)

Posted by Jonny Greenwood is the man | May 21, 2010 9:13 AM

If the crowd size is smaller than the specials I'll be very happy.

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 10:11 AM

sound was mud even by Terminal 5 standards. James kept saying he couldn't hear himself, none of his vocal improvs were audible at all.

same basic setlist as Music Hall/Webster shows. the band went on about 915 and it was awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 10:16 AM

why won't they fucking play "Home" already?!?

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 10:51 AM

How many songs off the new album did they do?

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 11:33 AM

I think they just did 4 from the new album. I'm forgetting the fourth but they definitely did:

Drunk Girls
Pow Pow
I Can Change

Posted by mp77 | May 21, 2010 11:46 AM

Thanks 11:46!

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 11:48 AM

the fourth was "All I Want" and it ruled (and sounded incredible going straight into "All My Friend").

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 11:52 AM

any merchandise?

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 12:51 PM

i think (?):

us v. them
drunk girls
yr city's a sucker
pow pow
get innocuous
daft punk
all i want
all my friends
i can change
tribulations
movement
yeah
---
someone great
losing my edge
ny i love you

pretty sure that's all of them but i'm not sure of the order.

Posted by Anonymous | May 21, 2010 2:30 PM

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were really good albums. Got them when they came out, still throw them on at times and think they're great. It saddens me when I hear bands from that era when I was a teenager and hear their new stuff and it's so clear how they've lost it, they sound desperate to recapture a sound/magic that they haven't had in 15 years (holy shit).... And then I realize that is not unlike a lot of us.

Wonderful post and the location is beautiful and elegant in design and information and everything>>> to Favorites
Amazing is an enormous understatement. One of the best electronic shows I've ever been to and I've seen well over a thousand concerts. I had no idea Vladislav Delay was as good a drummer & percussionist as he is- fabulous and he kept everything swinging with a very unique style of playing. If you missed this you missed out big time...
