Twin Sister
Twin Sister

Rooftop Films officially kicked off their 2010 season of showing films on roofs accompanied by opening bands. Twin Sister helped launch the series on Friday night at the Design High School on the Lower East Side (350 Grand Street). Nine short films were screened including "Star Wars: Retold" which you can watch in its 4-minute entirety below.

Saturday night's show, also at Design High School, was a sneak peek at Kevin Asch's Holy Rollers which is about Hasidic Jews smuggling ecstasy into New York City. Mahogany was originally supposed to play that one, but they canceled and were replaced by Sephardic indie rockers DeLeon.

Rooftop Films continue this weekend (5/21-5/22) at Design High School again. Friday will have music by Frances. Saturday has Brooklyn hip hop group Cloud.

Catch Twin Sister this summer at the BV Northside Festival show at MHOW. Pictures from Friday and Saturday (5/15-5/16) continue below...

Awesome location. DeLeon is the bomb and was a brilliant matchup for Holy Rollers, which I might add is a brilliant title for that movie.

"why dont i live in NY!?!!!????"

Dude, you couldn't handle it here

Move to NYC if you want to--I love it here. Just don't talk about moving. NYC likes doers, not talkers. :)

Set list for Twin Sister? Did they play during the films, or just a half hour before?

Nice space, HORRIBLE music

Disappointed by both Twin Sister & the short films. Last years opening was better.

Hey Show...which member of Twin Sister are you? Nice self post. Sorry but a coy little smile is all she got. No voice and even less stage presence. Fare thee well Twin Sister I'll enjoy placing my order with you in a random Williamsburg coffee shop in 9 months.

I really enjoyed Holy rollers and DeLeon, ready for this season!

The music at Rooftop is always super dope! Whoever books the music is a genius!

whoever picked the photos needs to learn the value of editing. there's no need for that many pictures (half of which are completely boring and say very little).

I like Twin Sister! And I like that Rooftop makes the effort to present NEW movies and NEW music. Sometimes you discover something cool.

ugh this band is so boring. They look nice and I want to like them but it's just so in the middle. They are like the jack johnson of brooklyn.

Star Wars Retold is pretty adorable, if you can't smirk at that then you most likely dead inside.

i only watched starwars retold because of the above comment and its alright. for "someone who never saw the movies" the girl remembered way more about star wars than i do and i actually saw the three movies. Actually, now that i think about it, she may not have seen them in one sitting, but she definitely saw all three movies. The video is a lie!

5:17 i agree. Twin Sister is actually a decent band but that singer just murders them. She has no energy, no stage presence, no emotion and all these things are magnified because she can't sing AT ALL. She does this thing where she always either whispers the lyrics or sings them super low like a dude.

I like the tenth picture down. I don't know why, something about the way those metal beams stretch out into the distance. Damn good picture. Fuck anyone who disagrees.

I also say alright alot.

Because Rooftop hosts untried stuff, i think sometimes the bands can be unprepared for such large venues and shows. I bet that one year from now Twin Sister will put on a great show. RF is ahead of the curve.

Twin Sister singer is cool! Dude vocals and whispering is fun, duh.

This looks like an amazing event! I've been listening to Twin Sister non-stop on hypem!

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were really good albums. Got them when they came out, still throw them on at times and think they're great. It saddens me when I hear bands from that era when I was a teenager and hear their new stuff and it's so clear how they've lost it, they sound desperate to recapture a sound/magic that they haven't had in 15 years (holy shit).... And then I realize that is not unlike a lot of us.
