"This year, we proudly celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Siren Festival. In the history of the our free Coney Island corndog bonanza, no band has ever played Siren twice. This was a conscious decision on behalf of our fearless festival founder and organizer, who long ago decided that if this crazy all-ages, free show thing ever reached ten years, Siren would rehost some of its best performers." [Village Voice]And the initial lineup is....

they need to add Scissor Sisters and HALA to this to get things going

I get the sense the Sisters are just too big (in their own minds maybe) to play a gig like this. You know they will be concentrating on areas where they can make some money....Europe. More power to them.
Remember when SS played PS1...for free? Before that whole thing started to suck too. Lots of things are starting to suck.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:05 PM
Please don't bring Spank Rock back. They were the wackest shit last year.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:06 PM
damn this will probably be Ted's only summer show then
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:08 PM
Modest Mouse should return. free warm up show a week before Waterfront!
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:16 PM
this lineup has to be a joke.
FIVE bands? 3 of the nu-pitchfork? one of them matt and kim???? are you kidding me?
ted leo though, okay.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:20 PM
how about YYYs or a Sleater-Kinney reunion?
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:21 PM
I vote for most of the 04 under-bill... The Ponys, Constantines, Thermals, and TV on the Radio. and NY Dolls (from 07?)
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:22 PM
cant stand matt and kim.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:23 PM
I'm pretty sure this is just an initial lineup :X
Posted by Michael | May 5, 2010 1:27 PM
wow matt and kim the headliner? didnt they already headline 3 years ago. ugh
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:27 PM
FARK YAH@!
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:28 PM
shitty hipster bands that no one will like in 5 years. and ted leo is overrated. billy bragg did it better 20 years ago.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:28 PM
don't rag on on Ted Leo....
but seriously these bands play NYC 4 -5 times a year... the only redeeming value is that its free and its in Coney Island... oh wait thats not so redeeming anymore....
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:34 PM
why even analyze it yet. They obviously have to announce like 8 more bands, and probably Ultragrrrl spinning some peens and what not
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 1:36 PM
sad as it is, Matt & Kim probably are the most popular band on this lineup

Siren is a blast. But I really really hope Matt & Kim aren't to be considered the headliners. That would be a huge letdown. They are some contrived!!!
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 2:10 PM
yeah the whole "meh" joke is really getting old. stop spinning your wheels
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 2:14 PM
MEHh MEH MEHole "meh" MEHoke MEHs MEHally MEHting MEHold...OK I'll stop

The kids love Matt & Kim so there's no use complaining about it. The easy recipe to become mega popular with scenesters these days below:
-Band must consist of both boy and girl members. Boy must look like girl and girl must look like boy.
-Band must appeal to both hipsters as well as emo kids whose tastes are "maturing"
-Band must make music that is part pop punk, contains synths/keyboards, is "fun" and makes listeners want to "dance"
-Band must put on energetic live show so nobody notices how generic the music sounds
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 2:19 PM
Wow...all this negativity over a FREE show in a fun place that serves cheap big beers that we're lucky hasn't turned into condos by now.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 2:26 PM
Dudes, this is only about a third of the lineup, they will announce more.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 2:46 PM
one of the best shows i ever saw was YYYs at Siren in 2002. I've never been more blown away by a band I'd never heard before.Ah, those were the days, when you could just enjoy and be excited about music...
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 2:51 PM
Praying for a Sleater-Kinney reunion. Just in general.
Posted by J | May 5, 2010 2:52 PM
It's still free, right? So really, how much can you bitch? I mean, BV commenters can bitch about anything, so I guess it's possible.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 2:54 PM
Ted will play his annual show at the piers - you know the one when it has rained the past three or four years. He confirmed that he was playing the gig when I saw him in Philly a few weeks back.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 2:55 PM
Why would anyone want the Sleater-Kinney reunion to be here? I don't hate Siren Fest but would you really want them to play here?
If you aren't in the first 10 rows of people you can barely see shit. Its way over crowded in general and the sound is absolutely terrible. I go every year to sit on the beach and quasi-check out the music but its not really a festival conducive to seeing music.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 2:59 PM
SLEATER-KINNEY PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 3:07 PM
I hope SUPERCHUNK gets added.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 3:09 PM
Ill be at Pitchfork that Saturday along with the good bands
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 3:11 PM
Nu-Pitchfork lol. Good genre!
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 3:12 PM
Matt & Kim, again?! Come on Siren.
Posted by t | May 5, 2010 3:25 PM
GBV!
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 3:31 PM
YEAH YEAH YEAHS
mark my words.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 3:38 PM
Yeah Yeah Yeahs were great at Siren. Never was a fan until I saw them there.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 3:52 PM
The Voice is making a big deal about this being the 10th anniversary of Siren. There will definitely be bigger bands announced later. And I'd say this is quite a decent undercard.

lou doing the entire, coney island baby
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 4:16 PM
Blues Explosion seems probable. They headlined year #1 and are doing a couple shows this summer.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 4:25 PM
Man or Astro Man!!!
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 4:31 PM
wow, this initial line-up is pretty disappointing. I like Harlem, and surfer blood is pretty good, but most of those bands are ones you can see in new york regularly...and the other is matt and kim
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 4:57 PM
Brooklyn shut up ! most of your bands all suck and you are total wanna bees ! The pains of being boring at heart ....oh it must hurt being so bland
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 6:42 PM
You're pretty witty aren't you 6:42...who is it that you want to be? Oh right, Jay Reatard. Grow a personality.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 7:17 PM
yeah, 6:42...cause i'm sure your city has a much better music scene...as you're checking a site centered around music events in new york/brooklyn
maybe if you would actually go out and be an active part of the scene you would see that it's actually a very exciting time and place for music...and maybe you'd also realize that those heavily involved in brooklyn music scene never really cared about pains of being pure at heart, so save that shit for when you and your midwest friends are busy fellating whatever new band pitchfork is buzzing about
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 7:21 PM
As the marquee event of a large Alt Weekly this is pathetic. That said, at least no NY Dolls.
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 7:25 PM
whoosh
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 7:46 PM
yawn
Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 9:01 PM
i would bet every dollar i have that they wont come up with a lineup worth going to in such heat. funk that.
Posted by jeremy | May 6, 2010 12:20 AM
i have been to every siren. yyy+sk was the best one.
Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2010 12:28 AM

Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2010 11:16 AM

Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2010 11:44 PM
Why are some of you surprised?
Siren has sucked for a long, long time.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2010 11:33 AM
Needs more TBA.
Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2010 12:36 PM
they should get daisy o'dell as a dj, just saying
Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2010 4:52 PM
