Willie Nelson performed a special acoustic album release show Thursday night at Grand Ballroom in NYC. Samantha says, "The entire show was incredible from beginning to end. Willie played tirelessly for over 2 hours straight in an intimate room on a modestly small stage at the Grand Ballroom. It was unreal. He covered all of his classics including "On The Road Again", "Always On My Mind" and "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain". By the third to last song the entire crowd was out of their seats dancing around in front of the stage and it stayed that way. When he finished his set he came out to greet fans, shake hands from the stage and hand out bandannas. This man that's been performing for over 40 years and he still seemed to have the soul of a young man. It was an honor to watch him play." More pictures from the show below...

It was really an amazing show. One of those you'll back on and appreciate more and more as time passes.
One of the best and most interesting crowds I've seen in NYC in a long time.

thanks for posting these pix. honestly one of the best shows i've ever attended. musicians, crowd, venue, material - all top-notch. was lucky enough to be sitting in the front right by willie, who had me hypnotized all night. that Smithsonian-quality voice is still fully intact, and he remains a criminally-underrated guitar player. wow.
if anybody captured the Sirius audio of this gig, i'm dying to relive it.

Wow, and look who was in his band. Chris Thile and Jim Lauderdale. Holy crap!
I would go see either of them by themselves, but to see them backup Willie???? I am so bummed that I didn't get tickets for this.

Wow! What a treat for those of you lucky enough to be there. This man's Mt. Rushmore. Willy Nelson was carved out of pure granite by the hand of god. For cryin' out loud, he wrote Patsy Cline's best number.

Converge was the same night as this. Is this why all the photos from the Converge show suck?
Posted by Anonymous | May 14, 2010 1:19 AM
