Active Child @ a BV SXSW day party (more by Tim Griffin)
Active Child

As previously mentioned, LA band and remixer Active Child are playing Mercury Lounge on Monday, June 7th. Blair opens. Tickets are still available. To quote Bill's short review from our own day party at SXSW this year, "Active Child are channelling some serious '80s here: Bronski Beat, Blamcmange, Erasure...and just covered New Order's Ceremony."

To quote Pitchfork's 7.7 review of the group's recently-released "Curtis Lane" EP, "Grossi's gauzy, twinkly Active Child songs feel at once rather humble and astronomically huge. Bits of Animal Collective's stacked harmonies, Dazzle Ships' askew shimmer, and M83's post-New Order epic pulse coalesce in Grossi's tidy yet titanic sound..." Fader says "Active Child is pop the same way Mary J Blige is gospel." Grab some MP3s above. The EP cover and a video is below...

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were really good albums. Got them when they came out, still throw them on at times and think they're great. It saddens me when I hear bands from that era when I was a teenager and hear their new stuff and it's so clear how they've lost it, they sound desperate to recapture a sound/magic that they haven't had in 15 years (holy shit).... And then I realize that is not unlike a lot of us.
