"I love talking about bands that aren't as popular."

Yup. Vampire Weekend, Dr. Dog, Beirut, Arcade Fire, Ratatat. Totally unpopular bands. Go make superbad 2. Did you read about these hip new bands in Rolling Stone?

Yea, WTF. Does Jonah Hill really think Vampire Weekend aren't popular? But, more importantly, FREE DR DOG SHOW ON GOV'S ISLAND!?!?!??! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

These dudes were awful at T5

"These dudes were awful at T5 "

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2010 11:27 PM

same day as Siren. :/

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2010 11:27 PM

I thought Dr. Dog killed it at T5. But I hate the sound in that venue.

wow hes cool

You listed July 10th twice under "Tour Dates." The Governors Island listing should be the 17th.

dr. dog or sirenfest? hmmmmmmmmmmm

Sounds fitting how jonah hill makes unfunny movies so he likes funny joke bands that are mediocre at best also.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2010 2:27 AM

Yes shitheads, get your heads out of your indie asses and understand that the majority of the country and the world have no fucking idea who those bands are. Even Vampire Weekend.

This is not condoning people being unaware, it's just a fact.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2010 2:49 AM

seriously, 2:49.

also, it isn't like this is taken from an interview with fucking Vice.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2010 3:13 AM

Arcade Fire are the ones headlining Madison Square Garden, while Drake is playing shows to 2,000 capacity in Los Angeles...yet Drake is the popular one, and Arcade Fire "unpopular".

Strange times we live in

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2010 3:36 AM

every band he mentioned sucks for real

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2010 8:19 AM

Hey 11:27 - I was there ass wipe. I've seen this band over six times (Maxwell's Bowery Mercury Johnny Brenda's etc) The new album is god awful - They just did not cut it in a large venue. Go play in traffic you fuck.

I wonder if this guy's music is as quirky and unconventional as his look? Go die, d-bag!

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2010 9:40 AM

2:49, Vampire Weekend's latest album debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, ahead of Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and the Black Eyed Peas. I think we can safely say people around the country know who they are now.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2010 9:42 AM

9:40 - Glasses and a button down? UNBELIEVABLE! too quirky for me!

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2010 10:08 AM

They were ahead of those bands/artists because their albums had been out forever. It wasn't like they dropped Contra the same week as the other multi-million selling artists you mention.

Jonah Hill should play Jay Bellin in Bowery: The Musical

Welcome to the Echo Chamber

Jonah Hill should just stop making movies. I am tired of seeing the same fat sarcastic jew character in every film he does. Learn to act.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2010 10:25 AM

I don't know who Jonah Hill is.

Yeah, bands that aren't popular yet somehow have #1 albums.

Yes this needed repeating from the person who correctly said this and they have their facts correct unlike 2:49. Every city big and small has had these safe alterna guys play shows with large audiences.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2010 6:17 AM

But here's the crown jewel of his statement, he name dropped Seth Kauffman! The world is an all right place.
