Jamie Lidell

National Post: So you have a new album out, called Compass. Do you feel differently about this album than the rest of your body of work?

Jamie Lidell: I definitely feel differently about it. It's a lot more personal on all levels: sonically, lyrically, energy-wise, metaphysically, spiritually... It's more of a cross-section of what it is that turns me on. I definitely kind of focused myself when I was making Jim. I kind of took one section of myself, but I always felt like there was something missing, another side of me that needed to come out. I guess when I wrote this, I kind of tried to promote the idea that everyone's welcome to the party. It was really relaxing. I just trusted myself. It's kind of like wearing an outfit. People are going to think I'm an idiot, but do you know what I mean? It's richer than that hopefully, but the lyrics I tried to make not really superficial.

Jamie Lidell played a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn Thursday night (6/10). More pictures and the setlist from the show below...

Wow...when I saw Jamie Lidell this was 4 years ago. Jimmy Edgar opened for him and it was at Bowery Ballroom. Jamie did not have a full band, just 1 million synths etc around him and max/msp, same with Jimmy Edgar. It was probably better like that.

Congrats Jimmy and Jamie.

This was a great concert, there was great energy from Jamie and the Band, especially when they seemed like they were jammin towards the end. Jamie's solo part with the looping was great even it was a pretty different vibe from the set with the whole band. Loved the vest, mostly because it seemed like Jamie really loved it too

his ego is bigger than his talent - it used to be the other way around, sadly.

Amazing is an enormous understatement. One of the best electronic shows I've ever been to and I've seen well over a thousand concerts. I had no idea Vladislav Delay was as good a drummer & percussionist as he is- fabulous and he kept everything swinging with a very unique style of playing. If you missed this you missed out big time...
