done.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:22 PM

Of course,my first thought when seeing this news was YES! Then seeing Terminal Shit depression set in but what are you going to do. Could be worse, could be at MSG.

Fuck You Bowery Presents and your shitty ass venue.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:24 PM

^^^^
You're be missed.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:25 PM

Which will sell out first? It Still Moves???

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:26 PM

Yeah, definitely It Still Moves first. Is Z or Evil Urges next? I'm guessing Z.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:27 PM

I find it amazing how clueless most artists are about venues in NYC. I know that they don't always get involved in the selection of venues, but one would think they should know this is one of the worst venues to pick for such a "historic" event.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:27 PM

That's worth not one, but five....

"Could be worse, could be at MSG."

i guess you weren't at new years eve, i would prefer msg over t5 any day. although they would never come close to selling out 5 nights at the garden

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:28 PM

I'm losing it right now.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:30 PM

Fuck yeah!

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:31 PM

"one would think they should know this is one of the worst venues to pick "

where do u suggest?

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:31 PM

its funny how they are like "5 day pass for $205!! one night $41."

41x5= 205

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:32 PM

"I would prefer msg over t5 any day"

It is like comparing horse manure and pig shit. Both crap but I will take the smaller piece of shit any day of the week.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:32 PM

"41x5= 205"

doh! I hope you save on fees at least

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:33 PM

Does anyone else loathe the fact that Jim James now goes by Yim Yames. For some reason, I find this to be incredibly annoying!

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:33 PM

Wow, I would love to see them play It Still Moves, but I am never returning to T5 ever again after seeing Dr Dog there. That place is a shit hole

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:34 PM

Holy Shit

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:36 PM

eh

beacon!

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:37 PM

definitely going to 'it still moves'.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:37 PM

Yimi MEHndrix FTW!

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:40 PM

nvr heard them. is there a big learning curve with this band? i only listen to rock. thanks

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:42 PM

AT DAWN easily the best one

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:46 PM

I heard that if you sync up "Freebird" and "The Rainbow Connection"

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:47 PM

the only learning curve you need with MMJ is a willingness to let go and ROCK OUT!

They are the best rock and roll touring band around these days. Dare I say it, but I'd almost compare them to Springsteen & the E Street band during the "Darkness" era. The music is totally different, but just as far as the energy and overall experience of the live shows.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:48 PM

I really hope there's a massive petition by the MMJ fan base to change venues. There are so many better places in the city this could have happened, and T5 is obviously the worst possible location. boomy sound, horrible lines of sight, guarantied to be oversold even more than usual. half the people holding tickets will be standing in the back of balconies without being able to see the stage. How about Hammerstein? Webster Hall? United Palace Theater? Beacon Theater? T5 will ruin what otherwise would be an incredible event.

Posted by Brad | June 9, 2010 3:48 PM

they should be doing this at beacon or town hall. or even mix it up based on demand of tickets each night. anyone remember when poly spree came through on one of their first trips to nyc years ago and played KF, joe's pub, maxwell's and a couple other places all in one week. now that was cool.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:49 PM

@348, you either get his sarcasm, or proved his point

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:53 PM

you should mention that a portion of thetickets go to benefit the826y

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:56 PM

How about that guy in the Chris Johnson jersey? Hope he doesn't show up in nyc.

Posted by @ Weez | June 9, 2010 3:58 PM

saw camera obscura at the grand ballroom, manhattan center - would be a good venue, larger than webster

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:01 PM

How come Brooklyn Vegan hasnt posted the Nelson 20th Anniversary Tour news? If it hadnt been for Nelson, there would not have bands like My Morning Jacket, Gang Gang Dance, and Grizzly Bear. Know your history.

Posted by Heavy Street | June 9, 2010 4:03 PM

MEH Morning Jacket

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:07 PM

People would actually pay to hear Evil Urges live? Good lord.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:08 PM

this is def bittersweet being at T5. bummer, but i'm def still going.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:08 PM

Agree with T5 being by far the worst venue in NYC. Nothing is even close. Absolute shithole.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:09 PM

evil urges is sick, are you kidding? wow.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:11 PM

can u a$$clowns stop bitchin about T5. We get it, the venue is subpar but ive been to about 30 shows there. Move around around a bit and find a spot with decent acoustics and a sightline. MMJ is a massive band and to see them in a pretty small space is a fukken gem

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:12 PM

I don't think MMJ ever plays shows that are less than 3 hours long.

I wonder what else they'll be playing each night. They've got to have something special planned for the Evil Urges night, at least, right? T5 will be empty.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:13 PM

Uccch, Terminal 5 is the worst venue ever! My heart drops every time a great band plays there.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:17 PM

3:33 Jim James is not his real name.

Do some research and read why he does this, i would too if I were him.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:17 PM

i dont like them much

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:20 PM

4:13--

Actually some of the shows they just played with Preservation Hall Jazz Band opening were closer to the 2 hour mark. But that MPP show was still off the chain!!! And you got an opening set from PHJB, which was freaking awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:20 PM

you dont even get a deal for going to all 5 of these boring ass shows?

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:21 PM

DAMNIT NY!!!
GOD I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THESE...
10/18 - Terminal 5 - - The Tennessee Fire
10/19 - Terminal 5 - - At Dawn
the others I have seen all of them on their other tours..ESPECIALLY Evil urges! They did 3+ hour sets during that tour.

It is sad that Tennessee Fire and At Dawn don't get enough credit. I think these were some of the bands best writing, their later albums are more about making songs.

Just my opinion.

^comment of the month

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:27 PM

Would never happen since outside of NYC, but the Wellmont would be a perfect venue for this. Great sound, about the right size, and a Bowery Presents venue.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:32 PM

i'm not sure anyone has said it enough yet, so i feel like i have to write MEH.

it means that this is boring, i am cool, and faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaart.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:35 PM

Wellmont great sound? Huh? You mean the Wellmont in jersey cause I have been there for a few shows and the sound was just o k

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:37 PM

agreed 4:32. If the wellmont were in NYC it would be the perfect venue. And if they installed a new sound system. it's a little rusty. But the wilco crew made it sound great!

It would be nice if there were a theatre like this in the city where you can remove the seats on the main floor. It's good to have the option of GA and seated for different types of audiences.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:38 PM

OK, so if they moved the Wellmont Theatre from New Jersey to NYC and installed a new sound system it would be the right venue for this event. Let me see what I can do.

Posted by Bloomberg | June 9, 2010 4:44 PM

Hey Bloomie... if you can make it happen... I'll support you for a 4th term!

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:49 PM

"It would be nice if there were a theatre like this in the city where you can remove the seats on the main floor. It's good to have the option of GA and seated for different types of audiences."

Wellmont has chairs for seated shows. You can basically do it in any GA venue. Nokia, Hammerstein, Grand Ballroom do the same thing.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 4:59 PM

Someone asked where else they could have this?

'Theater at MSG' or the Beacon. Both have similar capacity.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 5:01 PM

i havent seen mmj since they played northsix in 2002 but ill be going to see them play at dawn in full.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 5:01 PM

You know I'm really surprised nobody has bothered to mention how crappy T5 is...

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 5:05 PM

New Yorkers are so spoiled!!!!!! Stop complaining and be grateful that so many great shows are available to you! BTW, T5 is a fine venue, and yes I have seen a bunch of shows there.

Posted by Chris | June 9, 2010 5:12 PM

yeah... I forgot about Nokia. That would have been good for this.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 5:18 PM

How will the pre-sale work?

Posted by Venkman | June 9, 2010 5:37 PM

i think homeless people live in the theater @ msg. it seems they haven't been booking many concerts there as of late, am i wrong? or are they remodeling it?

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 5:51 PM

How about the Jersey City Loews? Town Hall? Wellmont?

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 5:55 PM

I agree with 5:12

Terminal 5 seems to get more venom than most venues, but the people here complain literally about every single venue.

Roseland:
"Terrible sound! Horrible interior!"

Bowery:
"Too small! Full of douchebags!"

Music Hall Williamsburg:
"Crappy sound!"

Beacon:
"Too stuffy! Why the seats!"

Madison Square Garden:
"Too big! Too expensive! Full of douchebags!"

Webster Hall:
"Too big! Generic sucks!"

Radio City:
"Too big! Too fancy!"

You're all idiots. They're all perfectly fine venues

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 5:56 PM

I love terminal 5!

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 5:57 PM

ABSOLUTE Best venues in the CITY... in order:

1.) Terminal Five
2.) Irving Plaza
3.) Mercury Lounge
4.) Cake Shop
5.) Theater at MSG

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 6:03 PM

I've seen these guys a couple of times and they always put on an amazing show!

Posted by Sloan | June 9, 2010 6:19 PM

I'd take hammerstein any day over terminal/nokia when it comes to 3-4k person venues in nyc.

Terminal is good if you're blowing someone in the band & can get into that vip area to the side of the stage.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 6:23 PM

i've never heard anyone complain about bowery ballroom being too small, or the sound at music hall being shite.

those are proper venues.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 6:40 PM

He goes by Yim Yames so that he can put out music on other labels. Jim James' music is under contract tied to the MMJ deal.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 7:10 PM

boo to the lack of a price break on the 5-night pass

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 7:48 PM

i haven't seen mmj since they played mercury lounge in 2000. just wanted to mention that.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 7:51 PM

You have to be a real loser to go see any band 5 nights in a row.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 7:59 PM

"meh" (and any recreation of the term) = the most obnoxious/least funny thing I've heard in the past 30 decades

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 8:25 PM

7:59 Seeing a band 5 nights in a row does make you a loser. Good thing these 5 shows are over a 6 day span.

Posted by Venkman | June 9, 2010 9:25 PM

^old guy is old

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 9:44 PM

Thank god I saw them when I did - was amazing seeing dr dog & m ward open up for them at the TLA in Philly

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 10:14 PM

I was just listening to At Dawn yesterday and thinking how great it would be to hear it live...at dawn. Or at like 2 in the morning a la modest mouse.

The only fucked-up part is that I just promised myself I was never ever going back to that piece of shit dance club ever again *unless* it was for something really amazing. This may qualify.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 10:59 PM

Im not a big fan of Terminal 5 but if anyone thinks the Theatre at MSG is any better, you're stupid. That place has the worst sound ever, the only place that can make Van Morrison sound like crap.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2010 8:08 AM

Every venue including MSG Theatre has good and bad days. I have seen a couple of terrible sounding shows at MSG Theatre, but also many very good sounding ones. Terminal 5 is consistently bad and that seems to be the general consensus. So maybe you're the stupid one talking out of his ass.

I wasn't suggesting the Theatre btw. There are many better venues. Still at least you can see the stage there and can actually move and breathe. Any place is better than a sold out show at T5.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2010 9:16 AM

At Dawn and It still moves, I am there!

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2010 9:28 AM

I've never been to Terminal 5.

I'm down for getting there early (like 615/630ish) and hoping to get a good balcony spot.

Anyone have any recommendations on the good locations?

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2010 10:43 AM

9:16 has some serious issues to get that pissed off at a comment relating to 80 other comments, chill out dude...I hope your not there

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2010 10:55 AM

yawn

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2010 1:42 PM

what wasn't mentioned is that $1 from each ticket sold will be donated to a local charity:

10/18 - Safe Haven
10/19 - The Innocence Project
10/21 - 826NYC
10/22 - NYC Cares
10/23 - Sustainable South Bronx

Posted by boogiedown | June 10, 2010 2:50 PM

It is nice that it is for charity but it is the concert goers who are supporting the charity with the ticket purchase not the band...still they are raising awareness I guess?

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2010 2:56 PM

T5 worst music venue in NY -- I'll pass.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2010 10:27 PM

I just bought a 5 day pass. I live in Alanta and I am flying up for this historic event. I have seen MMJ at least 30 times dating back to the At Dawn era in early 2002 with about 10 fans in a tiny hole in the wall venue. I will probably end up selling the last two dates and see the crucial first 3. I have never been to the T5 and I am now worried now that I have read these comments. Is it really that bad?

Posted by cavelight | June 14, 2010 2:15 PM

2:15 - it is generally regarded as the worst live music venue in nyc, and to be fair it truly sucks on a lot of levels. however, i do believe the sound has improved after its first year of existence. part of the problem is it is a 4 story high large cement and steel box. but considering the first 3 albums were essentially recorded in a silo i think the MMJ sound team will really make the space work.
now sightlines are always a pain here if you dont come in on the early side and plant yourself on an upper level or near the stage.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2010 2:28 PM

Thanks 2:28. Fuck it it's done. I just went through youtube videos and caught a bunch of shows at T5 and it seemed descent enough. Especially footage from the Hard Fest with Major Lazer/Diplo and others. I plan on getting there early with a flask of Jameson and a few joints neatly stashed away.

Posted by cavelight | June 14, 2010 2:56 PM

Cavelight, I've seen a few shows at T5 and haven't had a problem with the sound. I think the sightlines are the bigger issue, if you're short get there early and stake out a good spot.

Posted by Tremags | June 14, 2010 3:18 PM

So, if you buy a 5 day pass, do you get individual tix for each show or just one ticket you need to use for every one? anyone?

Posted by bd | June 14, 2010 8:27 PM

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were really good albums. Got them when they came out, still throw them on at times and think they're great. It saddens me when I hear bands from that era when I was a teenager and hear their new stuff and it's so clear how they've lost it, they sound desperate to recapture a sound/magic that they haven't had in 15 years (holy shit).... And then I realize that is not unlike a lot of us.
