Chris La Putt was on hand to see Ninjasonik play less than one song at South Street Seaport this fine Tuesday evening (6/15). As previously mentioned, not counting Hanson's soundcheck, that was all the music the giant crowd got to hear. Headliners Hanson and Drake never got to perform as the cops quickly shut down the free show to be safe. They potentially either stopped or started a riot. Taking their lead, Chris ran right home. His pictures (mostly from the point of view of the photopit in front of the stage), including more of the Pizzeria Uno acrobat, and a video showing the chaos (which doesn't compare to the video that shows people throwing things), below...

Guy used the Uno's awnings as monkeybars and when he went upside down his phone fell to the ground. Some nice bystanders threw it back to him.

What riot? I am surprised people were that calm... What were these promoters thinking?? This event should have been capped off..I can't help but think this was a promotional stunt.

I was there and things did indeed get ridiculous. It was no laughing matter when people from the mezzanine started throwing glass bottles into the crowd. There were shards of broken glass flying through the air and I saw a lady exit the crowd crying with a bloody leg. Such a classy affair!

From the allthings-fresh.net blog:

"Yo.. Niggas was wildin, homie pulled out a gun and we all boooooked it !! The streets was full, someone got stabbed, people was throwing chairs and bottles..

Whoever planned that didn’t take into thought the millions of people in newyork, the 1000’s of Drake fans, and Southstreet seaports rather small location. FAL Ninja Sonik stopped performing after 5 minutes and it took hours for us to realize it was canceled. Double FAL."

Looks like as big of a nightmare as the music would have been...

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 11:04 PM

"his is why other countries hate us."

yea we're definitely worse than all the shit that is going on in afria, middle east, south america right now. not to mention skinheads in europe beating up minorities on the subway and islamic extremists there throwing rocks at jews (not to mention the dutch filmaker who was stabbed).

/sarcasm

not to say i condone these idiots. why is this being covered here even? also to @10:37 .. no need for racist comments referring to the people as 'animals.'

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 11:05 PM

Drake's PR people knew a free show would cause a huge scene and get shut down before he even needed to show and thought it would be free publicity. He wasn't ever planning on performing at the Seaport tonight.

Welcome to the wonderful world of hip-hop street teaming.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 11:11 PM

Are them boys in Hanson doing okay? They're just kids!

Posted by Regular reader | June 15, 2010 11:13 PM

This reminds me of that oil spill

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 11:20 PM

honestly, this was insanity.

Posted by ashfaye@gmail.com | June 15, 2010 11:22 PM

God - I came out of work on Fulton St and had NO idea what the hell was happening. It was moronic. I wanted to cut a bitch. or 145.

Posted by levina | June 15, 2010 11:38 PM

would it have been the worst thing in the world if that pier had just collapsed?

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 11:43 PM

And this is why we can't have nice things.

Posted by Brian Farrelly | June 15, 2010 11:53 PM

Drake?

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 12:31 AM

Hanson needed to come out and have little Zac say "Y'ALL NIGGAZ BEST CALM THA FUCK DOWN!!" and fire a 9mm into the air.

Posted by Kizzle | June 16, 2010 1:01 AM

Well they aren't little anymore lol Actually Zac is about the same age and the other two are older than Drake. haha but that stuff is just nuts. Good to hear none of the performers were hurt and I hope there weren't any serious injuries in the crowd.

Posted by anonymous | June 16, 2010 1:19 AM

Rookies.

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 1:35 AM

Burn, New York, Burn!!!

Posted by embers | June 16, 2010 7:39 AM

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 8:45 AM

Wow, I hope my kids don't turn out to be this stupid.

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 9:27 AM

What do you expect with this type of crowd? This should not shock anyone! Very typical...

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 9:39 AM

You get what you pay for.

Posted by Cocky Rapoli | June 16, 2010 11:16 AM

These are definately NOT Hanson fans. Hanson fans are fat suburban white girls. This crowd is skinny urban black folks. Blame it on the Drake!

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 11:29 AM

11:29..you an authority on Hanson fans? Must have seen them before I take it!

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 11:37 AM

"This crowd is skinny urban black folks. Blame it on Drake!"

@Anon11:29 - Your statement is ignorant on so many levels, I don't know where to start. Suffice it to say that, considering Drake's commercial success, there are plenty of white kids into him to, of all shapes and sizes, you dipshit.

Posted by blackhat | June 16, 2010 12:27 PM

yeah but are there any black kids, of all shapes and sizes, into Hanson?

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 12:39 PM

I blame Ninjasonik for getting the crowd all riled up.

And Drake played a private concert the night before in L.E.S. That was the actual show. This was a publicity stunt. Props to Telli and Jah Jah tho. Nice press boys!

Posted by Shenk | June 16, 2010 1:59 PM

wow. this is sad. people freaking out, fighting, getting hit with chairs and shit. the crowd loves it. probably more exciting than whatever performance this Drake fellow puts on

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 3:09 PM

@Anon 8:35- Agreed. I'm a get that Recovery album.

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 3:25 PM

It would have been priceless to see their faces if Hanson actually got to play their set. They would have rioted anyway!

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 4:29 PM

wow - I can't belive the ghetto trash that has polluted the city...I love me some Drake..but damn are you serious??? and they think it's cool to look like savages and ghetto...disgusting...what happened to NYC? even Timessquare is grosss...they need to triple the rent in all the hoods of nyc and get the welfare crazkheads out of here..disgusting

Posted by Daniela Morales | June 16, 2010 4:42 PM

let's be real guys - NOONE was there to see Hanson...crazy...i agreee disgusting

Posted by stephanie miller | June 16, 2010 4:45 PM

this is why I hate people.

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 5:05 PM

All in all it was a fabulous evening, thankfully we are thrilled we overlooked this stupendous affair. Let’s hope Drake reminds us to turn up next time he drops by along with the 69 000 people who will be there too…

Posted by Pete | June 16, 2010 8:09 PM

Pretty sure there were some Hanson fans there. But, let's be serious, what was Hanson thinking? Them and Drake? No, guys. Just.... no. Not a good idea. Then again, they went on Bamboozle Road Show and they didn't belong there either. Sigh.

New York City is a melting pot for beautiful Women. Beautiful Women everywhere. They're so young, innocent and shapely. You guys should treat them with more respect. I moved from NYC 6 years ago and the one thing i miss the most are the millions and millions of beautiful Women. This concert should have been held in central park. peace !!!

Posted by ODDOWL | June 17, 2010 12:45 AM

@Daniela Morales4:42pm - Great idea...let's raise the rent citywide to price out the majority of people, families and communities who have built this city. Can we start with you Daniela? What neighborhood do you make better by your non-ghetto ways? Or are you a trust fund kid who can afford any rent hike thrown your way because Mommy and Daddy will pick up the tab?

p.s. What the hell is a crazkhead"?

Posted by blackhat | June 17, 2010 8:11 AM

Sit down....shut up....listen.
Oh wait, that's what music fans do.
