Rue, in red
Rue McClanahan

"Actress [and animal rights activist] Rue McClanahan died this morning, reportedly of a stroke, at age 76. McClanahan had a wide and varied career on stage, in film and on television, but she's most widely remembered for playing the vivacious and bodaciously lusty senior Blanche Devereaux in the sitcom The Golden Girls. With just the right blend of sass, sashay and Southern charm, McClanahan made Blanche into an icon of sexuality at a certain age, and endeared fans with her character's unashamed enjoyment of life and its, ahem, pleasures.

McClanahan's death leaves Betty White--currently enjoying a Facebook-fueled surge of popularity--as the last surviving Golden Girl after the deaths of Estelle Getty and Bea Arthur. [Time Magazine]

RIP Rue!

This is in no way intended to disrespect this woman, who I'm sure was a lovely person and will be missed.

But what on Earth possessed you to post this on BrooklynVegan? Do you honestly think anyone on this site cares? Does she even have a connection to music, other than presumably having listened to it?

I think it's more like BV runs this site and thus can post any content he pleases, directly music related or otherwise. Plus it's somewhat timely pop culture-wise, considering the recent hipness status placed on a certain other Golden Girl.

All the haters - Golden Girls broke a lot of ground when it originally aired. Compared to the crap that is on now, I would much rather watch this show than LOST. Thank god that garbage is off the air.

LOST! LOST! LOST! LOST! LOST! LOST! LOST! LOST! LOST! LOST! LOST! LOST! LOST! LOST!

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2010 2:18 PM

yeah, but it's not like people want to see posts about Lost on here either.

God, how many times does it need to be pointed out "Music, Photos, and NEWS." Sure, "news" can be subjective, but there are a lot of people who find this newsworthy.

It's so ridiculous when people complain about what's posted on blogs. Start your own goddam blog and post whatever you want. Oh, wait, you already did. No one cares.

1:59: Although, she didn't have a connection to music, she was a popular icon in entertainment history, one many will miss. BV understands that.

Being that you're probably 17 and grew up steady dose of prozac and video games, I'm pretty sure you can never relate.
