Thou at Scion Rock Fest (more by Christopher Mumma)
Thou

The grotesquely prolific Thou is forever on the move, and in addition to their out-now Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For EP and the upcoming studio LP Summit due in July on GIlead Media (CD) and Southern Lord (Vinyl), the band has a pair of splits on deck. First up is the band’s split with The City Is The Tower entitled Dwell in the Darkness of Thought and Drink the Poison of Life. Thou contributes two songs of the five, both of which are available above. Preorder that record.

Last, but certainly not least, the band has split with fantastic UK sludge-doomers Moloch, due on Perpetual Motion Machine in 12″ and cassette formats (preorder it). Download one Moloch track, “Dry Cough”, and all of Thou’s contribution to that split above. Moloch has a badass debut 10″ on Feast of Tentacles and recently contributed a Rorschach cover to Clone Vol II (which also featured Thou, Shadow Of The Torturer, and many others)

Landmine Marathon have filled out the rest of their US tour dates which include two NYC shows, July 13th and Union Pool and July 15th at Cake Shop both with Salome. Meanwhile, Salome is currently working on their new LP, and debut for Profound Lore.

Profound Lore has signed Agalloch! The band is currently crafting their new LP in their lair in Portland through the end of July. More details are forthcoming. Aesop Dekker of another fantastic west coast black metal band, Ludicra, serves as their drummer. While we’re on the subject of Ludicra‘s new LP The Tenant is out on 2LP courtesy Throne Records.

continued below….

V Album Art
Unearthly Trance V

Unearthly Trance has released new details on their forthcoming LP for Relapse due on September 28th! The LP is called V, has the art below, and the release will accompanied by a east coast tour with Suma! Until then, Unearthly Trance have a new and impressive release out on Chrome Peeler Records, the long awaited split with The Endless Blockade. Check out one of those tracks, The Endless Blockade’s “Clean & Prone”, above and order a copy of that split via Chrome Peeler. In addition, I have one copy of this split available for giveaway, check out how you can win one below!

Suma
Suma

Speaking of Suma, the Swedish sludge-doom band’s new album Ashes is beyond barbaric and will be available via Regain Records on June 24th. The Billy Anderson-produced effort and follow-up to the awesome Let The Churches Burn features five tracks pure riff punishment including the neckbreaker “Headwound” available above. In addition, Suma have a split with Pyramido (members of Crowpath) out NOW via on Head Records.

In related news, Slaughter Strike, the thrashy offshoot of The Endless Blockade, have released their demos for free download.

UK psychedelic doomers Ramesses will release their new LP Take The Curse on June 21st via Ritual Productions. Check out “Khali Mist” available for download above and viewable in the video below. The band, which is 2/3 comprised of ex-members of UK doom kingpins Electric Wizard, are welcoming their new LP after releasing a split with Unearthly Trance and the extremely limited Baptism of the Walking Dead EP in 2009.

Ramesses – “Khali Mist”

Neurosis has a new 2P live album due, culled from their 2007 Roadburn appearance. Preorder at Burning World Records.

Walls, featuring Jensen of Iron Lung, has a new 7″ that recently popped up for sale while he served as touring drummer for Mind Eraser. Pick up a copy if you have the chance. Mind Eraser / Slang also had a split 7″ available on tour. Look for it! And download a recording of their set at MDF HERE.

Also grab live MDF recordings from XBRAINIAX and P.L.F..

Recent tour mates Black Pyramid and Let The Night Roar have just come off a string of dates in the northeast, but also each have releases recently let loose into the wild. Massachusetts doomers Black Pyramid have released a new split 12″ with Old One out NOW via Serpent Records. All That Is Heavy has it up for sale.

Atlanta’s answer to High on Fire, Let The Night Roar, have a new self-titled EP to follow up their recent self-titled release on MeteorCity. Pick up a copy through the band. Last year both LtNR and BP released (awesome) albums on MeteorCity Records. Want copies of each? I have THREE pairs for giveaway.

Black Pyramid – “Mirror Messiah”

Good news/bad news. Bad news: Abscess, featuring the great Chris Reifert (of Autopsy) and who JUST released their new LP Dawn of Inhumanity, have called in quits. Good news? Autopsy is BACK! The band will release a NEW EP The Tomb Within via Peaceville in August as well as a new studio album in early 2011, entitled Macabre Eternal.

Crowbar have signed with E1 Music!

The previous mentioned Weekend Nachos Bleed EP is available for pre-order via Relapse Records.

Ghast‘s 2008 LP May The Curse Bind made quite the impact on me, so it’s great to see that the LP will finally be given the vinyl treatment via the kind folks at Flenser Recordings! The double LP will be packaged with the 2007 split with Helvett and is available now for preorder. Check out a track from that record above and whether you get the 2LP or the CD, get yourself a copy of May The Curse Bind. Want to win a copy? Details on how are at the bottom of this post.

Ohio death-sludge tough guys Fistula have a new EP, Goat, via Crucial Blast for CD and Hydro-Phonic Records for vinyl. Check out “” above. The band also has two other releases due for Hydro-Phonic Records: a new six-song Drug Abuser Sorcerer 7″ due and a Master of Bonghits split with Eternal Elysium. Hydro-Phonic recently dropped the first Accept Death LP on vinyl.

Speaking of Crucial Blast, the label is also working the new LP by Trees, Freed of This Flesh. The Portland band recently wrapped up a string of dates with the incredible Bloody Panda on the west coast, though no east coast dates are currently scheduled. Fans of Khanate and glacially-paced doom take heed, this is the crew for you. Dig on samples of the record at the Crucial Blast site.

Fuck The Facts LIVE @ Maryland Deathfest 2010. Download a few live sets from the first night of the fest above.

Relapse announced the latest edition of it’s Scott Hull curated This Comp Kills Fascists series, volume two. Featuring contributions from a plethora of notable grind greats like Lack of Interest, Noisear, Drugs of Faith, Despise You, Crom (who have a film on the way about them), Extortion, and many many others. The LP is currently up for pre-order, with a release date of June 22nd.

Speaking of Extortion, the brutal Aussie fastcore band’s 10″ Loose Screws is my current obsession and available now via Deep Six Records or your favorite local distro. Highly highly recommended.

Meanwhile, This Comp Kills Fascists Vol 2 contributors Drugs of Faith are currently working on their new 13 song LP for Selfmadegod Records. More details are forthcoming. Check out a bunch of their output downloadable for free courtesy Robotic Obscurities.

Coliseum recently released a new track for download, “Everything To Everyone”, from their forthcoming House Without A Curse. Pre-order the LP NOW. Ryan Patterson recently put together a mixtape of Louisville bands for Land Animal. BV recently debuted a new video, and did an interview with Patterson.

Though Voivod‘s Away makes an appearance on drums on Aun‘s new LP, don’t expect any of those thrashy progressive fills – quite the contrary. Aun toils in drone-y doom soundscapes as exhibited in the above “Drainbow” from VII, out now via Important. The band also has a split out NOW with Habsyll via Public Guilt and a seven-inch, Utica, via Drone Records.

ugEXPLODE, Weasel Walter‘s label, have released a new compilation by Orthrelm, featuring 36 remixed/remastered tracks from 2001-2002 era (with Mick Barr and drummer Josh Blair). Pick up a copy via the label and stream the track “Redun 1”.

New Jersey death metallers Disma released a helluva demo tape in the tail end of last year, and now the band has announced that they have signed to Profound Lore for their debut LP! Look for the band to drop a new 7″ in the meantime, but until then, get yourself a copy of that fantastic demo.

San Fran thrashers Voetsek are hitting the East Coast in the wake of their appearance at Dudefest, hitting ABC No Rio on July 17th. More east coast dates are planned, including more NYC dates, more details are to come.

Chicago doomers Indian have signed to Relapse Records. Look for a new album in 2011.

If you haven’t heard, the classic Corrosion of Conformity lineup of Reed Mullin, Woody Weatherman, Pepper Keenan, and Mike Dean will reform for some shows.

The Boris collaborations continue, this time with Ian Astbury (The Cult) as BXI. The band will release a four-song EP on Southern Lord that will have the below cover art. For more on that EP, head to the Southern Lord blog. In other Boris news, the band will finally issue Amplifier Worship and Absolutego on 2LP picture disc vinyl! Boris are scheduled to play Music Hall of Williamsburg on August 6th with Torche and Russian Circles (tickets).

The new and previously discussed LP from the gods of powerviolence The Bastard Noise, A Culture of Monsters, is out NOW via Deep Six! The Connell-Nelson-Wood incarnation is currently streaming a song at Housepig. The Bastard Noise are in NYC at the end of June.

Gridlink has completed recording of their new album, Orphan, with new bassist Teddy Patterson (Burnt By The Sun, Human Remains) and guitarist Steve Procopio (Human Remains). The LP art is currently being worked on, no word on a release date so far.

Between the signing of The Secret, a release by Trap Them and now Masakari, Southern Lord is going full throttle into hardcore brutality – and with good results. Cleveland’s Masakari toil in crusty hardcore with a melodic undercurrent (ala Tragedy, From Ashes Rise, etc) and have a pretty impressive new LP The Prophet Feeds for the label (Halo of Flies is responsible for the vinyl). For people who nerd out on of that sort, it definitely worth a list, and “XVI Rapid Dominance” (downloadable above) is a good look into the proceedings.

Kingdom‘s new video for “Ruina” from the band’s LP Hemeltraan, out now via Hypertension Records. Kindgom features members of Amenra and Blind to Faith.

Sweet Cobra have a trio of releases due including their upcoming full-length Mercy due with Black Market Activities. Additional material not on the upcoming LP with appear in splits with Doomriders and Get Rad! Stoked. Sweet Cobra recently lost Matt Arluck to cancer. RIP.

Pala, featuring members of Pulling Teeth, are hitting the road and will play NYC on June 19th at Party Expo with Suis La Lune, Fair Root, and Mortals. Full dates are below. Meanwhile Pulling Teeth have a few new releases on the way, including a new LP.

Virus are currently hard at work on a follow up to the great The Black Flux LP! The new LP, The Agent That Shapes The Desert, is currently partially done though no due date or has been discussed thus far. More details to come! Meanwhile pick up a copy of the awesome The Black Flux and Carheart, both of which are out now.

The previously discussed Coffins / Stormcrow split 12″ is out NOW via 20 Buck Spin. Dig on one of those Coffins tracks, “Black Fog of Burning Flesh” available for download above. In addition, Coffins have reissued the Sacrifice to Evil Spirit LPon Grind Block Records. To order, head to the Grind Block myspace.

John Cobbett has announced Hammers of Misfortune‘s new vocalist, Joe Hutton of Oakland’s Worship of Silence.

strong>Bolt Thrower – “The 4th Crusade” at Neurotic Deathfest 2010. Tons more fantastic HD videos from Neurotic DeathFest can be found here.

With the great Asunder now split, John Gossard (ex-Weakling) has a new project to contend with in Dispirit. The black metal band technically has no recordings to it’s name, but their current rehearsal tape Rehearsal At Oboroten is causing quite a stir on the West Coast, and in the US in general. Dig on a pair of samples from that tape above.

Stream the new LP by The Funeral Pyre, Vultures At Dawn, in it’s entirety. The band plays Union Pool with Early Graves and Mutilation Rites on July 17th.

Katatonia will hit the road with Swallow The Sun and Orphaned Land for a string of US dates that include Gramercy on 9/10. Tickets are on sale.

Gnaw Their Tongues have signed with Candlelight, even though the band has TWO LPs this year already, The Blotched & The Unwanted and L’arrive De La Terne Mort Triomphante due this summer via Crucial Blast.

Iron Tongue, which features vocalist CT of Rwake, will hit the east coast this summer, tagging NYC and Ace of Clubs on July 20th. Iron Tongue has two seven inches on the way via Bloated Goat Records.

Earthride and Valkyrie (featuring Pete of Baroness) will team up for a summer tour in July and August, which will crash land at Ace of Clubs on August 7th. Tour flyer is below. Earthride is currently working on a new LP.
