Ponytail @ Williamsburg Waterfront 2009 (more by Bao Nguyen)
Ponytail

Ponytail, Dom, Holy Fuck and Apache Beat have been added to the lineup of this year's Siren Fest, happening Saturday, July 17th in Coney Island. Those are in addition to the fest's previously announced acts - the full current lineup is below. It'll be a great show, but maybe slightly less attended than previous years?

You can catch Dom sooner at the BV Northside Fest show at Music Hall on Saturday, June 26th (along with Memory Tapes, ZAZA and Twin Sister). Tickets are still on sale.

Ponytail also play their hometown fest Whartscape.

After the Siren there's an after-show is happening at Music Hall of Williamsburg with We Are Scientists and Solange-collaborating Lightspeed Champion. Tickets are still on sale. (Scientists' Bowery show a few days before is sold out.)

Full Siren Fest lineup is below...

Best line-up in years. Adding Holy Fuck just took this to the next level... less attended? Matt and Kim and Ted Leo, not to mention Pains, Cymbals, Greyhound, Females... gonna be a mob

Is that Sloth's little brother???

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:04 PM

its amazing how DOM gets best new music on pitchfork and instantly gets all these things (passion pit tour, siren fest). crazy how much power they have. on the other hand its really cool that they can launch these bands without the bands having any major label backing or anything.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:07 PM

Rowan Atkinson's son???

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:08 PM

who are the two headliners??? TED LEO and???

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:10 PM

matt & kim, apparently.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:12 PM

I can't imagine a person living in NYC who wants to see Matt & Kim but hasn't yet. Actually, same for Ted Leo.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:15 PM

what's your point, 1:15?

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:16 PM

Worst Siren EVER. Rather chill on the beach with all the syringes

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:16 PM

Point is that they're boring headliners. I didn't realize I had to spell that out.

Posted by 1:15 | June 17, 2010 1:18 PM

i know it's free, but can i still be disappointed? not quite the additions i was hoping for.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:18 PM

David Bowie shakes his head and cringes at this unattempted (and unfortuante) display of androgyny.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:18 PM

They really need to change the name from Siren Fest to BP cuz this shit is a DISASTER!!!

Why go see shitty sounding bands like DOM w/outdoor shitty sound? Will those 2 negatives turn DOM into a positive? That band and most on this list just plain suck!

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:24 PM

ted leo and night marchers! and... and... (i'm really trying to get excited about this)

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:25 PM

Matt and Kim???? headliners?? WOWWWWWW

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:25 PM

looks like a hipster convention in the making.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:26 PM

too bad the sound is going to suck (as usual for siren).

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:26 PM

They really need a new booker/curator. This lineup is proof positive that they have gotten soft/lazy and don't really care about the quality of the music just that they have some familiar names to tout.

Let's Review

Matt and Kim (we have all seen a thousand times)
Ted Leo and The Pharmacists (ditto)
The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart (their moment is over...no one cares anymore)
Night Marchers (meh)
Surfer Blood (so hit and miss live you can almost be certain that outdoors + daylight will bring out the worst in them)
Harlem (HUH?)
Cymbals Eat Guitars (Pitchfork built them up and killed them off all in 6 months...does anyone still care)
Earl Greyhound (simply embarrassing at this point)
Screaming Females (average at best)
Wye Oak (ok i'll give you this one)
Ponytail (overrated shit)
Dom (one of the worst new bands out there but hey...he's got all the right friends to tell the hip kids this is good)
Holy Fuck (Wow! one great band on the lineup)
Apache Beat (This band has been sucking for 5 years now, put em out of their (and our) misery already)

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:31 PM

i went with friends to see wye oak in december. had never heard their music. they were fucking awesome live.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:33 PM

Can someone back me up here- doesn't Ponytail kinda suck? They seem like one of those "if we play loud enough, no one will notice we don't know how to play our instruments" type bands...

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:34 PM

@ 1:31

Harlem are fucking awesome. you're pretty dead on about everyone else though.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:35 PM

WYE OAK SHOULD HEADLINE!

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:38 PM

i will go to see night marchers and then go home.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:43 PM

ZE PLANE! ZE PLANE!

Posted by count funkula | June 17, 2010 1:47 PM

i remember when this was fun and they had good bands play.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 1:54 PM

Judging by the way things have been going lately... the last thing free shows need lately are more people.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 2:01 PM

Ponytail is the shit. That drummer will melt your face off.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 2:04 PM

"its amazing how DOM gets best new music on pitchfork and instantly gets all these things (passion pit tour, siren fest)"

Well, they were boys with Passion Pit before Pitchfork wrote anything about them, so I think that's unrelated and calling getting a early day slot at siren one of "all these things" seems a stretch. It also hasn't exactly been instant, they've been doing shows, etc. But yes, a lot of people read pitchfork so that sure helps.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 2:08 PM

DOM has good people helping them out. Pitchfork blurbs are kind of arbitrary if you have the right team in your corner.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 2:10 PM

haha 1:31 - on point

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 2:11 PM

Ponytail sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 2:13 PM

Siren can never get it right.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 2:28 PM

...jeez, if you all hate it so much just stay the fuck home. I'll be enjoying the beach, cyclone and some free music.

Posted by Half Chemical | June 17, 2010 2:35 PM

Oh no, we'll all be there with sour looks on our faces. Wouldn't miss this for the world!

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 2:42 PM

Ponytail may have a good drummer, but that dude can't sing worth a shit.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 2:47 PM

those are good additions.

Posted by aaron | June 17, 2010 2:54 PM

1:31 is my new go-to person when I have issues to solve. is there a 1-800 no.?

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 3:23 PM

1:34, Ponytail may or may not suck for other reasons, but it's impossible to deny that the drummer and guitarist are really good at their instruments.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 3:38 PM

yall suck, ponytail girl is cool

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 5:10 PM

the, er, "smaller" bands playing throughout the day this year are more exciting than most years. (Harlem, ponytail, holy fuck, screaming females all put on amazing shows) Last year, I was really only excited to see Thee Oh Sees during the day and then camped out for Built to Spill. However, headliners are weak! especially for the 10 year anniversary - i figured they were holding out on the full lineup for someone big

eh, at least siren is always a chance to get day drunk, see some good bands, maybe ride the cyclone, and hang out with friends

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 5:10 PM

I'd rather ride some friends and hang out with the cyclone.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 5:20 PM

how do i get on the guest list? i want to be in front of the riff raff.

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 6:13 PM

i am going to go to this and cum all over everyone

Posted by Anonymous | June 17, 2010 10:37 PM

Ponytail and Holy Fuck just made this thing soooooooooooo much better.

Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2010 1:13 AM

Night Marchers will rock it.

Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2010 1:41 AM

i am hoping a certain "froberg" ends up onstage during the night marchers and plays something w/ speedo that'll make us old heads get whiplash.

perhaps some pitchfork? some jehu? hot snakes?

we'll see.

they play maxwells the following day (the night marchers) w/ "special guests" --- speculation begins.

--

also, anyone complaining about the lineup is obviously is/are:
a) new to NYC/brooklyn
b) under the age of 25
c) complains about everything anyway (meh! right?)
d) doesn't realize this might be the best lineup since 2003
e) probably didn't even listen to music until 2004
f) are probably googling "hot snakes"
g) need to realize the ultimate power of ted leo

Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2010 7:23 AM

I'll be at Pitchfork instead! Oh well....people complaining about free music seriously needs to shut up and go away!

Enjoy free show and if you don't like the bands, hang out on the board walk.....

Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2010 9:29 AM

FUCK YEAH SCREAMING FEMALES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by ergrgeagaeghae | June 18, 2010 10:26 AM

7:23, this is hardly the best lineup since 2003. I like what you did there, though...prove your superiority by stating how you're a real new yorker and have been going to shows here for years. reallllyyyy made me reconsider the level of mediocrity that is this lineup

Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2010 11:30 AM

too many complaints for FREE concert. shut you f'ing babies.

Thanks for posting this article. I am extremely tired of struggling to search out relevant and intelligent commentary on this subject. Everyone today goes to the very far extremes to either drive home their viewpoint that either one) everybody else in the world is wrong, or two that everybody but them doesn't "really perceive" the situation. Thank you for your consise, relevant insight.
