"Had to cancel the free NYC show today because of a crazy audience that was braking things at the mixing board. -Z" - Hanson (about 7:20 pm)

"Police are shutting down the show at South Seaport! I'm on my way anyways...Drizzy Hendrix Woodstock 2010" - Drake (about 7:30pm)

"Hope everybody is able to stay calm and that things don't get out of hand. Again we are sorry that we could not play! -Isaac" - Hanson (about 7:30 pm)

"NYPD will not let me go on stage tonight" - Drake (around 7:32)

South Street Seaport around 7pm - June 15, 2010 (AON_Boss_Casino)
Drake

Hanson is supposed to be on stage performing as I type this. Ninjasonik played half a song. Drake is... on his way to the show? Hopefully everyone remains calm. No riots.

Fucking animals can't stay calm enough to see a show with... wait a second... HANSON? and the guy who played the kid in the wheelchair from Degrassi? WTF?

God forbid it was Jay-Z or some real talent. Place would have gone nuclear!

I hope Ninjasonik enjoyed playing that half a song. After tonight it's back to sucking dick for coke.

im guessing the "please let there not be a riot" was sarcasm.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:02 PM

All this for Ninjasonik?

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:08 PM

I actually think too many people would've showed up had it only been Hanson or Drake alone. Stupid billing.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:23 PM

Let me tell you, the planners of this are REALLY smart. What's the capacity of South Street Seaport?

smh.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:24 PM

this was a terrible idea. drake, while terrible, is being hyped like crazy so of course there's going to be a huge turnout. and i'm sure hanson still has their army of chubby girls coming out. terrible planning.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:26 PM

Imagine if it were Lady GaGa.
Police would need tazers and tranquilizers.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:34 PM

Hanson would have drawn a good crowd, but not this crazy big - it's Drake. He is the hottest thing going with the non-indie, non-hardcore urban kids (read mainstream). Like Justin Bieber except the crowd is 5-10 years older, so they should've expected the crazy for a free show.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:37 PM

HEY YOU-GUYS-WHO-DON'T-KNOW-ANYTHING, THIS THING GOING ON NOT BECAUSE OF DRAKE OR NINJA SOMETHING, IT WAS BECAUSE OF HANSON!!!! THEY JUST RELEASED THEIR NEW ALBUM SHOUT IT OUT RELEASED JUNE 8, SO PEOPLE ARE GETTING CRAZY!!! GET IT OVER WITH, HANSON IS STILL AROUND, AND SO DOES THEIR CRAZY FANS!!!!!!

Posted by Rei | June 15, 2010 8:37 PM

MmmmmmNOT Happening

Posted by anonymoose | June 15, 2010 8:38 PM

@8:34 The Tasers would have to be set to Faaaaaaaabuluous.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:38 PM

The place was packed at Five. I mean this space is for indie acts, yet the BIGGEST guy in hip-hop right now has a show there? C'mon man. Retarded.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:42 PM

I'm just imagining the armageddon like turn out had this show been featuring Arsenio Hall, Sum 41 and The Dwarves....

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:43 PM

lol at the idiots trying to climb on the roof of the kiosk

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:43 PM

It's Ninjasonik's fault. Everything's their fault... famine, disease, disaster... they are behind it all.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:46 PM

wow that Hanson crowd is insane....mmmbop 2010.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:49 PM

lol@army of chubby girls..haha and i like hanson. Crazy i feel bummed that they couldnt play their new music that was released this week. oh well bad press is better than no press.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:54 PM

fuck drake. hanson kicks ass.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:57 PM

pitchfork just gave that Drake nigga an 8.3, I thought you hipster fags would be all over that shit.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 8:57 PM

First off, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with Hanson or their fans. If you took a good look around, you would've noticed that majority of the people there were for Drake. (I can't imagine why though because he sucks) but there was NO NEED for people to act like f*cking animals.

Hanson knows their fanbase. They know we're not like that so whoever has a smartass comment about how this is OUR fault -- you may wanna do some research before you make yourself look like an ass with false information.

It was all school kids with fuckall else to do. And yeah, Drake is like the hottest artist in hip-hop right now, so hosting a free show on a summer night was a fucking horrible idea.

This officially seals it: free shows in NYC are the fucking worst. Way too many people with nothing to do showing up. I know it's not really possible, but even if they charged $10 for this show, it would have weeded out half this stupid crowd.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:15 PM

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:17 PM

Does not look like Hanson fans.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:20 PM

9:00pm, it was a joke. Everybody knows nobody really gives a shit about Hanson except for a tiny pocket of obsessed women.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:20 PM

1. who in the hell is drake?
2. i really hope this doesn't result in gating the area in front of the seaport stage / said gated area hitting "capacity" and people told to go home, etc.

IM SO MAD THAT HE DIDNT COME AND I WAITED WITH MY FRIENDS FOR 2 HOURS :p

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:22 PM

HAHAHAHAAHA! I love how all these unnecessary remarks are coming out of nowhere about Hanson fans. Um, did you see Hanson's fans throwing beer at people? Did you see them pulling knives out threatening to kill someone? Did you see them punching people in the face?

Uh, NO! Kaythanksbye

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:24 PM

I'm calling it now: feud between Drake and Hanson fans, it's on.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:27 PM

Everybody knows Hanson doesn't have that many fans. It's called sarcasm. You can stop defending them now.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:27 PM

"HAHAHAHAAHA! I love how all these unnecessary remarks are coming out of nowhere about Hanson fans. Um, did you see Hanson's fans throwing beer at people? Did you see them pulling knives out threatening to kill someone? Did you see them punching people in the face?"

are you a fat 14 year old that likes broadway musicals?

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:28 PM

Um excuse me. A fan will go all the way to defend their favorite band. Just like Drake fans would probably defend him. If you only knew how dedicated Hanson's fans are (which you never will know because you don't know what REAL music is) you have no place in saying that they dont have fans.

Majority of their shows on their upcoming tour are sold out. So now tell me that they dont have fans.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:30 PM

Oh and such dedicated fans that Drake has. They got his own show canceled. HAHAHA. Hanson has never had a canceled show.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:32 PM

you cant have a free concert in NYC. I was there and it was chaotic- no organization. Sure its free, but there should have been more sercurity/organization. Everyone was pushing and bottles were being thrown. I bet if they would have charged at least $10 to get in, half of those people wouldnt have gone. People just dont know how to act!

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:32 PM

Who invited all the Hanson fans to BV?

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:34 PM

You are SO right! I completely agree with this. They should've sold tickets and should've made them limited.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:39 PM

How about for the rest of their career?

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:40 PM

theres no point in defending hanson against the uneducated douche nozzles. some people have a view point and it will never change so just getting deffensive just eggs people on to insult further because they know they are getting to you. Soo as a hanson fan like most of us have been doing for 13 years just smile and get on with your day, cant change the world.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:40 PM

^^^ do Hanson fans know about punctuation?

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:42 PM

Sweet. Keep it on the Hanson fan site.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:43 PM

We know alot of punctuation, we just can't let it all out on their site.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:44 PM

I promise you nobody here gives a shit about your Hanson talking points.

In fact, I'm pretty sure the only reason this is on Brooklynvegan at all is for Ninjasonik, which coincidentally nobody was there for.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:46 PM

"You are SO right! I completely agree with this. They should've sold tickets and should've made them limited."

But if they sold limited tickets, Hanson fans would complain about being shut out by THOSE DRAKE FANS.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:47 PM

eh.....whats punctuation????? I should know something witty would be looked over because i have bad grammar, im going to go cry myself to sleep now.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:48 PM

Oh and thumbs up to the NYPD for cancelling a show that probably wouldn't have made sense anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:57 PM

Wow! There are some real morons commenting on here, but leave it to hip-hop fans to be retarded and cause such a problem. From the looks of it, Hanson shouldn't even be mentioned here cus those aren't hanson fans in the pictures. Who put Drake and Hanson together? Hanson is too good for that.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 9:59 PM

omg i was there on the Uno balcony but left after the girl next to me started throwin chairs

Posted by dmani | June 15, 2010 10:01 PM

Just say it white indie kids ~ black people are the worst, they're so wild!

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:22 PM

Well they are.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:25 PM

i totally agree with 7:52 my fav. pizzeria .-.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:32 PM

So I wasn't at this show but I just got a tweet from Hanson. I love how people are tryin to blame this disaster on Hanson fans. I've been to 17 Hanson concerts... never had this problem. Too bad for Hanson not getting to play their new music, but it doesn't look like they would have been respected by the majority of this crowd anyway.

Posted by Christina | June 15, 2010 10:33 PM

Exactly. And thanks to you so called fans, your actions landed a couple people in the hospital if you even bother to check the news.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:33 PM

Dammm fools

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:33 PM

So basically Hanson fangirls are going to be in this thread until the end of time because they don't get sarcasm when people blamed Hanson fans for this riot. That's something to look forward to.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:37 PM

Get used to it.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:38 PM

Wooooo Hanson! Where would they play if they weren't doing this show?

My guess: Irving Plaza, not quite sold out

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:41 PM

Hanson would have played Terminal 5. Hanson fans would declare it the greatest venue ever.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:42 PM

At least they would've given us more than what Drake gave you.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:43 PM

No anyonymous @ 10:37 pm. We get sarcasm just fine. What we don't get is how people who love music can create such conditions that none of the bands were able to play. It's really a shame for all of the bands, although I'm not a fan of the other two it's a shame their fans didn't get to see/hear them either.

Posted by Teeny | June 15, 2010 10:44 PM

Oh how i love ignorance.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:45 PM

idk - didn't Hanson just do a 5 night sold out concert serious at the Blender in April? Obviously they have dedicated fans and I seriously doubt Hanson fans could be that destructive.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:46 PM

Posted by ELFAPOKALIPS | June 15, 2010 10:47 PM

Hanson aren't even selling out all the 500-1200 capacity venues on this tour. Only 1 show is sold out on their current tour, and that's an 810 capacity venue in Philly. Rabid fans, indeed!

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 10:47 PM

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 11:06 PM

Welcome to the wonderful world of hip-hop street teaming.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2010 11:11 PM

DRAKE WAS THERE FOR A MINUTE, BEACUSE HE WAS ALSO SIGNING CD'S.( I DONT KNOW WHY PEOPLE BOUGHT THEM...TRUE FANS, BUT DOES ANYONE EVEN USE CD'S ANYMOREE?) BUT BECAUSE NEW YORKERS ARE " SAVAGES, ANIMALS," WHEN SMETHING IS FREE, IT WA SNOT SAFE FOR HIM TO PERFROM, BESIDES THERE WAS NO KIND OF SECURITY, HE COULD HAVE GOTTEN KILLED OF SMTHN, PEOPLE WERE THROWIN GLASS BEER..WHO THE HELL WOULD PERFROMA TO THAT?

Posted by Snow | June 15, 2010 11:22 PM

11:22, people were standing outside for hours, but the show hadn't started yet. The show doesn't start at 3:00 because people showed up at 3:00. Show was listed for 7:00 start, because... that's when it starts. People started throwing shit during Ninjasonik's set — so the promise of a show was kept. It just didn't even last for a single song because people are fucking dumbfucks.

It's pretty easy and relatively clear.

"Oh I know...Hanson fans are all white and Drake fans are all black,"

Not just that, Black and white is only the starting point. it's also what they are wearing and how they holding themselves that paints a picture of what kind of music they are most probably there to see.

A chubby sixteen year old female wearing suburban mall clothes is easily identifiable as someone not there to specifically see Drake while Hanson is on the bill, while a 25 year old black male wearing a duRag is probably not there to see Hanson while Drake is on the bill.

It's not too hard to see a demographic of a particular artist.

That's the most black people I've ever seen at a Hanson show.

hahaha 1038 was at 17 hanson concerts...

like that's a good thing

even though the performers didnt play the concert was still kind of interesting. i remember a group of people on the roof and this one preety chunky white girl refusing to get off the roof got hit in the head with a full soda bottle pretty amusing!!!! but when the chairs started coming it wasnt so funny n e more :/ lmaoo

i can't even believe Drake is really happening right now, but Drake AND Hanson? WTF is going on?

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2010 1:53 PM

LAST NAME RIOT. FIRST NAME DRAKE.

This reminds me of my first free concert Placido Domingo and Gloria Estefan at Central Park. After dealing with bureaucrats all night Placido mailed in an aria. That was it for 11 year old me I took seven blades of grass and flicked them four inches.

"A chubby sixteen year old female wearing suburban mall clothes is easily identifiable as someone not there to specifically see Drake"

@Anon12:52pm - Then clearly you don't know how many sales to chubby sixteen year old mall females nationwide it takes to propel an artist like Drake to the top of the charts and sell out massive venues.

"It's not too hard to see a demographic of a particular artist."

@Anon12:52pm - Read: I have a bright future in racial profiling.

Good! Then maybe I will make a fortune. You don't think that the people on Madison Avenue use demographics and race in their marketing campaigns?

Most record companies and Publicity departments use demographics to propel an artist like Drake to the top of the charts.

Get a clue.

i think the only plausible explanation for the massive crowd is that 95% of the people thought it was going to be Nick Drake.

Should have just sunk the seaport.

What's all the Hanson bashing on this forum?

I'm a black woman from the Bronx and I grew up listening to Hanson. Of course they have black fans!

I also watched Degrassi so I knew "Drake" when he was Jimmy, a black middle school student from Toronto. Now, he's hot in the hip hop world which is good from him. Personally I prefer Hanson's music (right now I'm digging their song "Go". It's incredible song).

I do think the problem fans were a subset of Drake fans who got rowdy. I think this is clear and there's no need to bash either act when discussing this story.
