Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire's second show at Madison Square Garden, set for August 5th, will be streaming live on YouTube. The teaser video that says as much (that they put on Vimeo), with a clip of new song "Rococo," is posted below.

Tickets to their August 4th MSG show are currently unavailable. You can still get a ticket for August 5th, however.

Both shows will be opened by Spoon and Owen Pallett.

The Suburbs, in all eight covers, comes out August 3rd on Merge. AF tour dates are here. Video below...

i heard its like nevermind meets is this it with flashes of paul's boutique and crooked rain, crooked rain. and its better than all of them.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 10:41 AM

I'll bet anyone that Pitchfork will give this album at least 9.0 and it'll be #1 album first week of August....

but this cd will not be better than OK Computer.

Give me a break.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 10:42 AM

Do I have to buy all eight covers?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 10:48 AM

I hate everything

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 10:48 AM

It was better than Star Wars, better than ET - I'd see it again and again!

OK Computer > Crushed Velvet Apocalypse > The Suburbs > Hummus > DUNKACCINO > you > Meh

Vampire Weekend is better than Arcrade Fire

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 10:57 AM

dunkaccino is the worst. not even close to being funny. you have zero comedic timing. kill yourself.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 10:57 AM

@10:42 ... if we're going to play the guessing game, i'm going to say 9.6

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 10:58 AM

I'm thinking Pitchfork are actually going to give it a so-so review..like 8.1 or something..and not best new music. I think they feel like they've done enough for this band and feel they don't need the help (which they don't) they wont trash it nor will they go over the top about it. lets face it at this point no Arcade Fire fans are waiting for pitchfork's review before buying this record..
also if you dont like A F already a pitchfork review isn't likely to sway you either way...

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:06 AM

Can anyone compare this Arcade Fire band to the Beatles?

Posted by CarterB | July 22, 2010 11:07 AM

@ 10:58am.....no, we are not playing the guessing game. Please go home and take your ball with you.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:07 AM

"dunkaccino is the worst. not even close to being funny. you have zero comedic timing. kill yourself."

Ok, but then I expect you to tip your cup and spill out some DUNKACCINO for a fallen homie. Ya dig?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:09 AM

what time is Daft Punk streaming their show at MEHdison Square Garden?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:09 AM

dunkachino is so not funny that I think I might like it. I do like it. something new and kinda better than hummus jokes.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:12 AM

Arcade Fire is better than most bands but not better than Swans. Can we please start a Swans thread????

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:13 AM

I support the Swans thread!
and the random reference to Crushed Velvet Apocalypse by 10:53am.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:19 AM

Slayer! But seriously. Neon Bible was a flaming pile of dung, and the new songs are boring as shit. First EP was awesome, though. More Neutral Milk Hotel, less Springsteen, guys. Also, Win is the WORST vocalist out there. I mean, come on. That shit is terrible live, dudes, and the onstage shtick got old REAL quick. Then they started taking themselves WAY too seriously. Lyrics are totally junior high school. Fuck these guys. 8 different album covers! Of the same fucking car! ABSOLUT CONCERT SERIES. The uniforms. Suspenders. Don't even get me started on the "No Cars Go" remake. What a way to ruin a good song. Nice one!

Posted by I have ears | July 22, 2010 11:20 AM

I listened to the samples. There is no way an album with those lyrics is getting higher than a 9 from PF. It'll probably be slightly better than Neon Bible (which was half a good album) and will score bonus points for having an overarching concept but it seems like the band won't be making another Funeral anytime soon (and Win is no Thom). Still looking forward to hearing it, some of the samples sounded great ("Rococo" stood out)

easily

"I'm thinking Pitchfork are actually going to give it a so-so review..like 8.1 or something..and not best new music"

and not best new music?? well thats just silly

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:26 AM

The Suburbs is arguably better than Revolver.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:31 AM

If you actually care, or even think about, what Pitchfork is going to rate an album, and you don't work for the band, its record label, or aren't some hack music critic, you need to get a life.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:33 AM

"Can anyone compare this Arcade Fire band to the Beatles?"

Every 40 years, as if by clockwork, a band emerges from the gaudy ruins of disco and transforms our collective perception of what "ear chocolate" is. In 1924, it was Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians. In 1964, it was The Beatles. And in 2004, it was a ragtag gang of Tex-Canadians called The Arcade Fire. The name itself suggests a paradigm shift, practically screaming "Don't go into that arcade and expect to play games. There is a fire in there now. Go on, play Dig Dug if you must but you will surely be burnt alive." Like The Beatles before them, The Arcade Fire are the new best band of all time, forever.

Posted by okay | July 22, 2010 11:47 AM

The Dunkaccino joke is way too blue collar for these threads. No way a trust fund hipster doofus would be caught in the place that "America Runs on..."

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:53 AM

I can't believe Carlos Gonzalez is hurt again. I really needed this guy in the Rockies lineup today. He better return on Friday. Crucial matchup this week. Go Rox!

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:54 AM

^ wrong thread, bub!

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:58 AM

Why is everyone obsessed with what pitchfork is going to rate this album? Or any one music reviewer? But it is always pitchfork and never anyone else. It is absolutely disgusting how one site has such unprecedented power in making or breaking careers. How about you hipster cunts stop letting pitchfork think for you and stop drinking pbr and riding fixies because you are so desperate to belong that you will conform to any ridiculous identity-compronising fadaround.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 11:59 AM

neon bible is the best album of the 00's

the only band with enough balls to take on the NWO artistically

yall are a bunch of haterz

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 12:00 PM

well...they certainly made arcade fires career. but i love the band and thank PF for introducing them to me with their best new music review of funeral way back when

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 12:04 PM

"The Suburbs is arguably better than Revolver."

You are arguably dumber than the idiot parents who raised you.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 12:12 PM

The two most musically relevant things mentioned in this thread....

1.) SWANS
2.) Legendary Pink Dots

Honorable mentions: hummus, DUNKACCINO, Carlos Gonzalez, idiot parents

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 12:15 PM

They took credit for their career when interviewing win butler years ago. Douches.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 12:24 PM

Swans...pfft...they lasted all of 3 years and are playing Bowery Ballroom...get back to me when they have been around as long as Arcade Fire..

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 12:25 PM

12:15..im joking..but the Swans really aren't too relevant these days!

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 12:27 PM

Which came first: Arcade Fire or Panic at the Disco?
Either way, they beat me and my band to it.
We're called Bouncy Castle Earthquake.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 12:53 PM

11:47am hit the nail on the head.

Who is the Swans that all you kids are talking about? What's their big song?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 1:03 PM

1:03 what is their "Swan Song"?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 1:10 PM

11:59 - "compronising fadaround" is a great band name.

12:00 - Didn't know that AF were branching out into wrestling by taking on the NWO. Good luck to them.

So, we're to the point as a society that we spend this much time arguing about records we've never heard? Forgive me if I don't take you seriously (yes, you).

The record is as good as advertised. Making comparisons to a historically great work does not in any way diminish the greatness of that work. Deal with it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 4:52 PM

Here is the true test of determining which album is superior...
You cook one batch of hummus to OK Computer playing in the background, and another batch of hummus with Suburbs in the background. Then you invite your 2 friends over and serve each one the separate bowl... The fellow that suffers indigestion after the meal is the signal of the lesser album.
I have used this formula countless times...
Pitchfork ain't got nothing on my review mastery!
