Beach Fossils

Two days after filling in at the Seaport, Beach Fossils were one of the bands who played Mishka's 4th of July bash at Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City. During the show, the Beach Fossils bassist was apparently frustrated with the sound (or was just trying to be rock n roll) and so decided to throw his bass guitar into the river. I guess he has some expendable income laying around (and isn't super worried about the environment). Video below...

I think they should put up $20 billion for possible environmental damage.

5 years from now.... mutant fish release 'chill-wave' album

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 12:42 PM

to be fair, that's probably the only thing that's touched the water from that beach. Place sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 12:43 PM

awesome. you guys suck

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 12:45 PM

He was trying to make his own beach fossil I guess?

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 12:47 PM

they're going to scare the straights with their antics because it's 1965

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 12:48 PM

that wasn't nice - poor little hi flyer.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 12:49 PM

The guy's daddy will buy him a new one.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 12:50 PM

Thats my bass!

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 12:54 PM

my favorite brooklynvegan posts are the ones where opinion and sometimes passive aggression seeps through. keep it up, get ballsy

Posted by not just another asshole commenter | July 8, 2010 12:55 PM

i am also frustrated with the sound of this band

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 12:56 PM

The band sounded its best when they ran out of instruments to play.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 12:56 PM

I can see the BV headline now: Bass plays bass, kicks ass.

Posted by Scott | July 8, 2010 12:58 PM

That splash was this best thing heard on that boat that night.

Posted by blag | July 8, 2010 12:58 PM

I hope he doesn't buy another one. At Knitting Factory last month, after almost bashing us in the face with his headstock about two dozen times -- and knocking down all of the drummer's mics several times over -- the bass player finally busted ass with his stupid, drunken "showmanship." It didn't make up for the fact that this band is totally expendable.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:02 PM

I'D LIKE TO ANNOUNCE THAT I FUCKED THAT BASS

Posted by LEBRON JAMES | July 8, 2010 1:03 PM

BP > BF

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:05 PM

How can people listen to that crap? If that's what it takes to get fans, I can whip out about 70 albums by noon tomorrow

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:08 PM

Beach Fossils = Warrant of chill-wave. Scene = dead. Stop this shit already kiddos. Start making music about the forrest or something.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:08 PM

What a fucking retard...

"Ohhhh, I'm sooo angry and aggro I'm going to throw my bass in the river...Grrr"

Please, someone slap him in the face next time you see him.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:09 PM

i wonder if the national played a boat, if matt would climb/dive into the water with his mic during mr. november.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:15 PM

What a fucking loser

Posted by Really? | July 8, 2010 1:16 PM

[pause] This would be ok if the bass player was 5-year child having a fit. Considering this band has the talent of a 5-year old child, it guess it's ok. [resume]

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:18 PM

POP PUNX NOT DEAD!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:19 PM

SMH, SMH, SMH...WHAT A F--KING LOSER!

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:22 PM

How can you afford your rock n' roll lifestyle? Oh c'mon, tell me!

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:22 PM

Hopefully he doesn't pick another one up... I mean... They should have thrown all of their gear in the river... Then pee peed in their underoos as they went back to their baby strollers for their cheerios... Gad this is some awful poop eating stuff, seen, scene, attitude. Two years from now you won't be thinking all beach ray bans shorty shorts with your hangin loose vibes on the vibe. Maybe it'll all go...............

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:23 PM

i enjoy the beach along with their album

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:30 PM

I used to think these guys were mediocre but harmless- nice kids that can write a good tune. Now after seeing them live I know they suck live and are also brats.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:30 PM

whoa brah hardcore! nice shorts lol!

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:30 PM

beach fossils are divas, saw them throw a hissy fit onstage over the reverb on their amp at Bruar Falls.

Posted by anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:30 PM

univox hi flyer goodbye fly away this blandness.

Posted by buymeabass | July 8, 2010 1:31 PM

Even the little girl is looking at him like: "What a dumbass..."

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:36 PM

Wow, the backlash is in full force! I'm sure that none of you have acted like jerks or prima donnas when you were as young as they. I certainly don't think they're world-changing, but I think that they write pleasantly diverting pop songs with some nice hooks and appealing harmonic interplay. They certainly have work to do on their live shows, but they have their moments, and I suspect they'll improve as they do more touring.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:39 PM

Yeah cuz she was like gimmie that bass - ohhh you didn't even know it was called that?? Well let me show you how to play in the key of A.. Yeah. Let's start with that.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:40 PM

What kind of dummy shoots a video with the camera oriented sideways like that? Even the Double Rainbow guy knows how to do that right.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:40 PM

thats not cool..... i loves my bass!!!!!!!

Posted by knowYERbassGODS | July 8, 2010 1:48 PM

fucking douchebag thought he was cool.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:53 PM

nice hooks and appealing harmonic interplay

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:54 PM

this band blows big time. talentless wastes

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:56 PM

What a joke. I could use that bass. Learn to REALLY play asshole and maybe you'll respect your instrument more.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 1:57 PM

Someone who had to work in order to buy their equipment wouldn't just throw it into the water like that.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 2:01 PM

No, you've got it all wrong, dude--it was supposed to be a fish, not your guitar.
Bass does not equal bass.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 2:12 PM

At least something other then dead bodies gets thrown into the east river...

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 2:13 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 2:20 PM

The record is alright (as is true with most bands of this ilk), but the live show are atrocious. Bands need to realize just because you have the option of playing live, doesn't mean you should (or can, for that matter).

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 2:49 PM

just so dangerous and reckless. i bet he returns overnight videos a few days over due an stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 2:56 PM

maybe i'm just a poor student/musician who is without a trust fund and struggling to make money, but I never thought destroying your own instruments was in anyway "cool" or respectable.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 2:58 PM

NO, u have it wrong. He caught that bass and threw it back bc it was 2 small. That's it. LARGEMOUTH 4 LYFFFE

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 3:09 PM

Please quit before you get another chance to throw me in the river too.

Sincerely,
snare drum

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 3:53 PM

still lolzing at "nice hooks and appealing harmonic interplay"

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 3:57 PM

The funny thing is that you just KNOW Beach Fossils are one of those bands that probably read this blog on a daily basis. They are cringing after reading this thread!

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 4:13 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 4:23 PM

if only they could incorporate "wolf" into their name somewhere...

seriously though, in front of the little kids too! dude, you're a fucking asshole. you should have been forced to fish that instrument out of the water, and then beaten senseless with it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 5:12 PM

>>They are cringing after reading this thread!

No, actually, we don't give a shit what you morons think.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 5:50 PM

@Beach Fossils Bass Player5:19pm - Us "morons" were the main people in NYC supporting your band...that is until this stupid shit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 5:56 PM

They trashed their equipment at Santos Party House as well. I think it's just a thing they do. I still love them. Shitty stage setup, I have to say. No wonder.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 6:15 PM

Beach Fossils are a solid band who put on one of the best live shows. Throwing the bass in the river is pretty punk and it's probably disintegrated by now thanks to the radioactive garbage that's already in the East River.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 6:45 PM

Oh shit, 7.8 on PITCHFORK - get outta the F'CKING WAY!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 7:19 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 7:22 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 7:22 PM

Lettiing a music blog dictate what you listen to based on a point system < actually listening to music

Throw your selves in the water along with surfer blood. NOW we are talkin, baby.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 7:31 PM

He was obviously trying to copy what Bob Odenkirk likes to do.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 10:39 PM

beach house > surfer blood > listening to nothing ever again > best coast > beach fossils > Wavves.

What else is there? I only know scene bands that are at least 6 months old.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 10:48 PM

I agree with Anonymous.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2010 11:04 PM

Bassgate > Drakegate.

How punk.

also this band sounds atrocious in that clip. yikes.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2010 10:34 AM

all of you..get a life. you are just creating more publicity for this band that you supposedly hate. if you dont like them, i have a suggestion-dont listen. instead of spending your time criticizing other people's music with "i'm wittier than you" comments i suggest you find some other bandwagon to jump on that makes you feel cool-how about a book club or better yet join a group of militant straight edge vegans i hear thats pretty hip these days...get off the computer and go make your own music, perhaps bask in the sun a bit..and to all you "anonymous's " out there-you have a name, grow some balls and take responsibility for your thoughts

Posted by andrea | July 14, 2010 12:38 PM

um yeah... ok

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2010 1:03 PM

haha. so much hate, and yet every time i see BFs, there are tons of cool people with good taste in music who are out for what is almost always a god show. yeah, the bassist was probably the weak link, because he got way too drunk at nearly every show (seen him literally fall over his amp 2 times in one show), but the other 3 dudes are super nice and really chill.

the amount of butthurt in this thread is mindblowing. i'm happy none of you miserable assholes are the people i see when i go to concerts in bk.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2010 7:07 PM

ha ha... just got to this thread! You are all the biggest bunch of mindless ass-wipes I've ever "listened" to. Bravo! Now go do something constructive. Dismissed.

Great band. Old hipsters are getting too old to appreciate it because your sonic youth/pavement/sebadoh/etc. isn't cool to listen to anymore. Sorry bros, this is the new generation and they rock as much as the previous ones. Relax and accept it. I'm old. Great music will continue.
