"Watching Zoroaster. Their singer has terrible posture. #srsly -ReignInBlonde

"God damn last night was EPIC!! Dark Castle killed it!!" -s11bryant11d

"At Hull and Black Tusk at Webster. You should be too. Heavy as fuck" -goes cube

Black Tusk, the grimmest of the grim
Black Tusk

Black Tusk, Zoroaster, Dark Castle, and Hull formed a fantastic quadruple bill at The Studio at Webster Hall on July 9th as part of a larger tour for the BV-sponsored trio of Zoro/BT/DC. Earth-shaking riffs abounded, fog-machines and lighting where on blast. Hull was the best I have ever seen them. We heard a new black metal influenced Dark Castle song. Chloe Puke (Atakke) guested vocals with Zoroaster. Zoroaster played mostly material from their upcoming Matador (it rules). Stevie Floyd (Dark Castle) guested vocals with Zoroaster. And Black Tusk could not contain the good times. I'd have to say it was a good night.

Tons of ragin' pics and some video from the show is below...

ya, really great pics

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:02 PM

it was a great night. all the bands were fantastic and the pictures can really vouch for that. 10/10.

Great fuckin' tour. One of the best shows of the summer.

Regards to Chloe for the great guest vocals.

Minneapolis Mushroom dude says Hello!

Too many cameras at shows these days. That guy with the flash is everywhere. He's an asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:48 PM

You are the asshole and um, welcome to NYC. These people (photographers and promoters) bust their asses to give touring bands the promotion they need so that they can continue to play for you and no one makes money from it. Save your comments for the other people with their cameras shooting for shits and giggles and leave the people that are doing right by these bands alone.

Posted by Sam | July 12, 2010 4:16 PM

what Sam said. if you (3:48) are talking about Markus then you deserve a kick in the kisser, you stupid fuck.

Posted by torsten | July 12, 2010 5:09 PM

fuck off 3:48. if you're talking about the dude with the dreads (don't know his name) then seriously, fuck you. he's responsible for these amazing pics. and if you're talking about amateur guys like me, then fuck you anyway.

LIGHT TRAILS! YAY SLOW SHUTTER SPEEDS!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 5:51 PM

just because one has a camera, does not make one a photographer.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 5:56 PM

self important "photographers" with there big cameras and shit. these photos are OK but i can make just as good with my iphon. and i don't have to get all in everybodys face with giant shit nikon right in the stage. plus that guy was climbing all over the stage while black tusk was playingg. WTF! if i was those guys i'd stop in the middle of the song and kick him off. not cool

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 6:35 PM

Hey brainiac 6:35. Maybe Black Tusk wanted him on stage, or possibly even asked him? Did you ever think about that?

Otherwise, I am sure he would have gotten clobbered. This is metal, not Animal Collective. That fool would get got.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 6:51 PM

agreed with the above. that photographer may very well have worked for the band.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 6:58 PM

yes, Markus worked for the band who had asked him to shoot onstage. now what, 6:35?!

Posted by (((unartig))) | July 12, 2010 7:20 PM

Great photos! Glad to see some coverage of heavier bands here.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 7:29 PM

I'm so sick of people complaining about cameras. Some people do it for a living, some people do it for websites like this, some people work for the bands, but most people do it because they love the music and want to document it for themselves and other people to enjoy.

It's always the shows where everyone is standing around too uptight to get into the music. The biggest detriment to a photographer at a show is everyone with their iphones in the air.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 7:38 PM

Really? This many comments about stupid photos? I agree with the Iphone guy above. These photos really aren't that great and I'm sure my phone could make just as good of pictures. If only the "self important" guys in the front would let the rest of us see the bands and take a few shots ourselves. I see that guy with the dreads all the time at shows and he's always right in the front blocking everyone's view. And if it's not him it's somebody else with too much money to spend on expensive camera equipment. If he was any good, he'd get a phone that could take good pictures then he wouldn't need that stupid big ass camera (ie:little dick) that does all the work for him. And then maybe some of the rest of us could enjoy the show we paid to see. That guy sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 8:17 PM

hey fuck tard! yeah 8:17, I'm talking to you. if you'd start moving your ass at shows rather than standing there like a 200 year old oak tree, I bet you anything, any photog will start moving out of your way. If you want to get your money's worth, go to fucking Carnegie Hall, you tool.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 8:25 PM

You're the fuck tard. If these were really exceptional photos, then maybe I wouldn't mind. But they aren't. These are the same tired crappy photos that I saw kids print in my high school photo class. 10 years ago! Get a life already. Or take some damn photography lessons. If I had a giant $4000 camera, I'd make better pictures than what a phone could do. Anyone with no photography experience could make photos as good as these. My grandmother could take better photos and she's dead.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 8:40 PM

If Black Tusk paid for photos like these, they got ripped off.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 9:05 PM

fuck all of you whiney bitches. i was right next to the guy with the dreads and he kept asking me if he was in my way or not. he was nice enough to ask for permission to move in front of me and take some pictures. at one point i did get a little ticked but guess fucking what? i moved 2 feet to my right. why don't you idiots do the same?

as for the quality of the pictures, meh, who cares?c are you guys paying for them? i agree with the person above who says that they (the photos) are either for the sites, the bands or maybe just for the people who want to document their experience.

Posted by RICH HALL | July 13, 2010 12:11 AM

I don't care what any of you have to say. This guy takes really awesome photos of bands. I dare any of you to compare any Iphone photo to these. Fucking people with nothing to do but complain. Photos like these go to websites like Brooklyn Vegan to promote the music scene. Having photographers and promoters who put on shows like this makes a difference for all of us. Even you jackasses who are complaining. If you don't like it, don't come on here and ruin it for those of us who do want to see photos from shows. Start your own damn website dedicated to bitching about shit you don't like.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2010 1:07 AM

Everyone thinks they're a photographer. If you're all such great photographers, try using real film instead of shooting 1001 shitty pictures with your awesome and expensive digital monstrosity. Jerks. Watch the band, enjoy the music, get your every 3 second flash out of my face and fuck shit up instead of pretending you're important.

Some really bored people on here. These photos are amazing. Keep up the good work.

markus is a standup dude. y'all is trippin.

Posted by matt | July 13, 2010 9:16 PM

"Anyone can take pictures of a band, not everyone can take them well". These are some of the most amazing live pics I've seen.

Posted by j*House | July 13, 2010 10:03 PM

Markus always clears it with the band, even going so far as to ask what areas of the stage he should avoid/use. He's also extremely supportive of the heavy music scene in NYC, not only coming out and taking pictures for every band, but NEVER asking to be put on the guest-list. You fucking people who bitch about a guy like Markus disgust me. YOU are the problem with NYC. In any other market, your complaint would be that some 375-pound dude broke your nose when he was drunkenly swinging his fists to the music. But in NYC, your complaint is that there's a guy who, with the blessing of the bands, is taking pictures. And you're saying "Oh my iPhone can take better pictures." Your iPhone? You sound like a little fucking bitch. Markus (that prick with the dreads) should take his big ass camera and crack your fucking skull with it. Go watch the National with your fucking iPhone you pieces of shit.

Posted by david | July 18, 2010 8:53 AM

markus is like the best metal photographer BV has ever had..so...eff off

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2010 9:00 AM

wow. all the bands he shoots for are always psyched to get photos from him. duh. and btw he has a big dick to match his big camera.

found out it's only actually one hater putting multiple posts on here. so who's the real prick with the small dick? psst- i think he has an iphone...
