Guided by Voices

Las Vegas Weekly: As far as additions to the lineup ...

Matador's Gerard Cosloy: We will be announcing, I would say at a minimum, three more bands. I would say they are not necessarily going to be the biggest bands in label history. They're gonna be bands tied more to the label's old days. Actually, in one case, someone very, very new as well. They're not gonna be headliners, let's put it that way

So no Boards of Canada, I assume?

That's correct, yes.

A lot of people are asking about Mogwai.

No, they have other stuff they're doing overseas at that time, which is unfortunate. We would have loved to have had them be part of this.

And Interpol has dates in Europe.

Yeah, that's correct.

Mission of Burma is also a no-go, correct?

Yeah, we did ask Burma and Roger [Miller] unfortunately has Alloy Orchestra commitments that weekend.

Rolling Stone reported Liz Phair as confirmed ...

Yeah, that I will neither confirm nor deny (laughs).

How tough was it getting Guided By Voices to reunite, especially with that lineup?

We just kept asking. We just kept asking. And I think ultimately Bob decided it would be fun.

Tickets go on sale at noon for the Guided By Voices show happening at Terminal 5 (with Blitzen Trapper).

Doug Gillard plays Bruar Falls tonight.

I thought Bettie Serveert or Teenage Fanclub would play, but while both are touring NA at that time, they're elsewhere.

I'm in love with Boards of Canada. Who even knew they still do live performances?

I guess I'm glad they're not playing in Vegas — because I'm in N.Y. I wouldn't get to see them.

holy shit, did those sell out already???

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 12:03 PM

Got mine.

Posted by smack | July 23, 2010 12:04 PM

I kept getting "no tickets available" at first, but keep trying! I did and was able to snag 2.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 12:06 PM

Well look at that..people must not mind T5 too much for it to sell out in a minute...food for thought..

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 12:08 PM

Try again.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 12:09 PM

I got 2. Keep on trying I think they release them in batches. When one batch of tickets sell out they release another one.

Terminal 5 shows have a funny way of always selling out no matter who is playing. Maybe Brooklyn vegan commenters are secretly all masochists.

i just got tix, so keep trying i guess. luckily the extra charges weren't too bad this time (an extra $8 total)

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 12:14 PM

They sold about twelve pairs at Mercury Lounge before closing up:..

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 12:15 PM

i see they reduced the maximum from 8 to 4.

More importantly, what will happen if it rains like it is now tonight? Modest Mouse at Brooklyn Bowl?

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 12:24 PM

I think there was a but on Ticketmaster. For the first ten minutes they were on sale it showed as no tix available. I thought that was...improbable. Kept trying and at a quarter after I got in and snagged two.

@12:12

Thank you for the advice. I got those tickets now. instead of giving up.

Boards of Canada don't play live and haven't in a long time. I don't think they even care to. But I'm sure if they did it would end up being a long drawn out myriad of multi-plays in major markets leading up to probably some MSG show or some crap.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 12:37 PM

BoC at MSG? Major markets? Keep huffing that carburetor cleaner. I mean, I guess I could picture them doing their thing at a SXWXNXMXRXE-type festival but...hmm....

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 12:51 PM

damn, i LOVE boards of canada. i was hoping they'd be one of the bands announced. i can't imagine how they'd be like live...

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 12:59 PM

Watch, when Boards of Canada eventually come back out, regardless of what their live set is like (laptops and samplers) it'll be much larger than you'd probably imagine. A Pavement style tour doesn't seem too far fetched.

We're not masochists 12:13...just psyched to see GBV!

Posted by SK | July 23, 2010 1:08 PM

Laptops have no place in "live performances"
Bust out your midi gear and your blunts instead.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 1:08 PM

Feh, old news.

GBV played a secret show last night in Dayton and someone already put up video. Looks pretty sick.
