Pool Party

The first Pool Party happens today (7/11). The DJs for all eight Pool Parties are listed on the flyer above along with a green scribble that shows, despite Jelly's initial intentions, soccer will NOT be shown at the Pool Party today ("State parks says we can not show the world cup"). The bands that are playing are listed HERE (and they include Xiu Xiu & Deerhoof performing Joy Division).

Jelly posted to Twitter this morning that the parks department nixed soccer viewing. I don't know what the latest word is, but...

I give up. Updated, thanks!

what could the reason possibly be for not showing World Cup?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 11:20 AM

They didn't show the final 4 years ago. Why should they care now?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 11:24 AM

I don't think the NYPD wants any public screenings of the World Cup. A couple of weeks ago, they shut down a screening of the Ghana/US game.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 11:29 AM

fuck the nypd

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 11:33 AM

Ghana-US makes sense. Are there enough people that are into either team that will be at the Pool Party to cause a riot? (The answer is: no)

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 11:40 AM

@Anon above: Exactly, no one there will be rioting for anything, but they've already said no to other screenings and agreeing to this one would be "controversial". Bummer.

It's because jelly doesn't have written permission to screen the game from ESPN - when you're broadcasting on a large scale in a state park, you have to and jelly didn't think about that, apparently.

Anyone know set times for today, or at least start time? First band goes on with doors at 2?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 11:46 AM

Wondering when Pictureplane goes on?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 11:51 AM

If you think that not having a public screening will stop me and my friends, Pieter, Ruud, and Joop from overturning cars and setting them aflame along Kent ave after our victory today, they are sorely mistaken! But nice try, NYPD! Hup Holland Hup!

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 11:51 AM

i would assume first band goes on at 3 - anyone wanna confirm?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 11:56 AM

anyone know the roots/talib times for prospect park today? i see it starts at 4pm, but then i see somewhere else it starts at 7:30

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 12:02 PM

HOOLIGANS!!!!

Posted by Regular reader | July 11, 2010 12:07 PM

when will jelly get a good graphic designer for their flyers?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 12:24 PM

shit is gonna be rad

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 12:48 PM

12:24- I think they are supposed to have a "retro" Windows 3.0 Paintbrush look.

@TornUpPraise

Jelly Pool Party set times guesses:
Doors 2pm
Pictureplane 2:30pm
FangIsland 3:30pm
Whyanticon 4:30pm
Xiu Xiu/Deerhoof 5:30pm/6pm

jelly says set time 4 pictureplane is 2:30-3:30

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 1:06 PM

Pretty sure that Pictureplane starts at 2:30. The only confirmed time is Why?, who said on their twitter they are on at 4:30.

"t's because jelly doesn't have written permission to screen the game from ESPN - when you're broadcasting on a large scale in a state park, you have to and jelly didn't think about that, apparently."

i think you have to get permission directly from FIFA actually. when they showed the first US game in DC in public they literally had to get permission straight from FIFA to show it.

Roots show will start at about 5, but with that crazy long lineup, I wouldn't be surprised if they take the stage at 8.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 1:15 PM

world cup final is not on espn, it's on abc.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 2:06 PM

Since the game is broadcast free and unscrambled over the public airwaves you do not need permission when showing it live.

the giglio boys are bringing that big 3 ton thing to the pool today to throw it in the east river!

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 3:14 PM

Liquid Liquid...I wish they were playing, not DJing.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 3:20 PM

2:11 - you're an idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 3:27 PM

2:11 - you're not an idiot

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 5:13 PM

no reason to call 2:11 an idiot but he is very, very wrong. The bad part is his tone might send people the impression that what he's saying isnt very, very wrong.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2010 8:12 PM

Liquid Liquid!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 12:16 AM

Screw FIFA. NY State can take them on!

They didn't bother showing the game 4 years ago.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 12:37 AM

in spain and netherlands today, and in any any country really, they show games in which the country in playing in the most massive public spots available. nypd wasnt willing to let them show a round of 16 game in a park in the bronx.
