"Heartless Bastards at Bowery. Big Herms says: "righteous!"" - Jonathan Cohen
Heartless Bastards

"I've seen the Heartless Bastards multiple times. Twice in Austin and twice in the New York City area. They are a fine band and always put on a quality performance. I suspect that they might have done the same l[Thursday] evening, but it was hard to tell because I couldn't hear the band over all the meaningless drunken conversations happening while the band was playing. I might be old fashioned, but I am of the opinion that one goes to a rock show to watch and LISTEN to the band. I don't understand the point of paying for the ticket (and Ticketmaster's obnoxiously high service fees) to stand around and have a drunk conversation that you could have with your friend at a bar before and/or after the show. Sure, of course you are going to talk a little bit when you are watching a band because you want to share opinions on the show and/or band or simply say "I LOVE THIS SONG". A show doesn't demand complete silence like a trip to the movie theater does, but chit chatting through an entire show disrupts the people around you and their enjoyment of the show. That "review", and the pictures in this post, come from the July 15th Heartless Bastards show at Bowery Ballroom with Peter Wolf Crier and Builders and The Butchers. The NYC gig came one night after the same lineup played a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Both shows were part of a tour that continues until the end of the month. The worst part about [that evening at Bowery Ballroom] was the drunk hipster in his trucker hat intentionally bumping into people with (I presume) the hopes of getting into an altercation. After he tried to provoke me three times, I had to go to the downstairs bar and call it quits on the evening. Missed the last eight songs of the set."

The reviewer was right on the money. There was more useless chatter at this show than could be believed. I think the house left side of the floor was better than house right. The balcony crowd was okay.
I wonder if the crowd at the Music Hall show was better, cause this one was full of morons.
Any reports?

i go to bowery all the time and yes i chat with friends sometimes during the show. im a paying customer and have a right to enjoy myself. if it was only about the music, they wouldnt sell beer there. its about people enjoying themselves.

is this the same sketchy creeper photographer as the other one or a completely different one.

I go to shows to talk during the bands "performances." If you don't like it, STAY THE FUCK HOME. I pay, oh . . . who am I kidding, I don't pay, I get on the guest list because I'm doing blow off the dicks and asses of ever mover (and shaker) on "the scene." So if you're just there to see the bands, I'm sorry, YOU ARE A LOSER. In conclusion, BANDS SUCK, I RULE! And if you ask me, bands should turn down when I'm talking!
But really, HOLY SHIT! DID YOU SEE THE TITS ON THE GAL IN THAT THIRD TO LAST PHOTO. It's like she crawled out of my dreams only to refuse to get into my car, but this is all after she gives me a peep of those glowing sweater puppets.
Who loves you babe?
This guy/gal friday.

hey 10:41, has the concept of respecting other people or the fact your not the only person alive ever entered you head?

bowery ballroom blows

The talking during shows problem is getting out of hand. The solution to this is to have a human being come on stage, and warm up the crowd, and ask everyone to STFU. politely of course. Place signs above the doors that say please turn off your cell phones, and remain quiet during performances.
People are becoming increasingly selfish. They only care about themselves, and they ruin things for everyone else.

I can totally back up the claims of people not shutting the fuck up. Moving though the crowd during Heartless Bastards I heard very loud talking and chatting. One woman talking to a man about her laundry and dry cleaning costs (So glad they were enjoying themselves, right 10:41?)
However, seeing Crowded House on Tuesday night, the audience was dead silent... that is, when there wasn't a sing-along.
Having said that, it's not a venue thing. I think it depends on the band and possibly the age of the crowd.

is her fly undone?

Is your eye on fun?
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 11:20 AM
un-fucking-real.
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 12:35 PM
if they didnt want people to have "drunken chats", they wouldnt sell alcohol. they obviously do so the band and venue dont have a problem with it. you shouldnt either. to accuse us of selfishness is ridiculous because we're talking to other people and not ourselves. you're being selfish by demanding no one speak so you can maximize your enjoyment

10:26 - I don't converse about household chores unless it's in public and pay a 10% convenience charge. So, what?!?

Cute couple in that photo. Not enough people talking about them.
All this negativity - that couple looks like they are in love.
