Iggy Pop & the Stooges in Toronto for NXNE 2010
Iggy Pop

Iggy Pop and the Stooges played a free show in Toronto's Yonge-Dondas Square on Saturday June 19th, as part of the city's NXNE Festival. The show was controlled chaos in the middle of a very public section of the city that NXNE took over with a big outdoor stage for the duration of the festival. It would be like having a free, public Stooges show in the middle of Times Square, or Union Square, or at South Street Seaport even. The pictures here are from that crazy and amazing show (and are part of our slow drip of coverage from the fest...still more to come!).

The Stooges will be in the NYC-area for their Raw Power set at ATP NY over Labor Day weekend. They'll also be in Atlantic City on August 27th.

For the ATP NY show, Iggy and MVD Entertainment Group are running a contest for six winners to videotape the Stooges' set and interview Iggy at Kutscher's. To enter, you have to send in an HD-quality video with either questions for Iggy,or some kind of stunt as to why you should win. In addition to the ATP prize, the "fan shot footage, along with the contestant video submissions, will be crafted into a high definition longform program, which will be part concert film and part reality TV show about the journey of the fans." Part cool, part creepy. More details on the contest, and a video explaining it all featuring "Handsome" Dick Manitoba, are below.

In related news, Barney's New York will soon start selling Iggy Pop t-shirts that are part of the Archive 1887 collection...

"Archive 1887 t-shirts are made in Los Angeles from 100% cotton and feature artwork sourced from Sony Music's exclusive archives as well as the private collections of music's most important photographers. Each shirt comes with an online code that can be entered at www.archive1887.com to unlock a streaming playlist of the classic artists' music as well as background information on the images. Archive 1887 is sold at better department stores and specialty boutiques across North America as well Europe and Asia."
Iggy will help celebrate the t-shirt launch by making an appearance (a non-musical appearance) at Barneys Co-Op (236 West 18th Street Between 7th and 8th Ave) on Wednesday, July 28th. That said, I am not 100% sure if the event is open to the public (though the hours make it seem like it would be)... the event is private.

And in other related news, The Stooges have added three more songs to Rock Band (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii). As of July 20th you can get "1969", "I Wanna Be Your Dog", and "No Fun" so you can be Iggy Pop in the comfort of your living room.

More pictures, video and the setlist from the completely mobbed NXNE free show (where many lost their shoes), and more contest details, below...

In The Hands Of The Fans - Handsome Dick Manitoba & Iggy Pop promo

In The Hands of the Fans contest

On Friday, September 3rd 2010, Iggy and the Stooges are putting themselves IN THE HANDS OF THE FANS...

MVD Entertainment Group has launched the site www.InTheHandsOfTheFans.com to offer fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to film and interview Iggy and the Stooges performing the seminal punk rock masterpiece RAW POWER at the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival on September 3, 2010. Six lucky fans will be chosen by way of a video submission contest to join director Joey Carey on location at the Stardust Theater at Kutchers' Country Club in Monticello, NY. This marks the reunion between Iggy Pop and powerhouse guitarist James Williamson as well as original Stooges drummer Scott "Rock Action" Asheton. Also featuring Mike Watt on bass and Steve Mackay on saxophone.

The contest is based on fans submitting short high definition video segments asking Iggy and the Stooges interview questions, or demonstrating why they should win the contest. Winners of the contest will film and interview Iggy and the Stooges at All Tomorrow's Parties. This fan shot footage, along with the contestant video submissions, will be crafted into a high definition longform program, which will be part concert film and part reality TV show about the journey of the fans.

"Raw Power is one of the greatest, most dangerous albums in the history of rock and roll" says Ed Seaman, C.O.O. of MVD Entertainment Group. "We are honored to enable the fans this connection with the band; this will be a dream come true for the winners."

IN THE HANDS OF THE FANS will be sustainable as a series; MVD is already deep in discussions with a number of other artists and expects to have five more programs shot within the next six months with new announcements expected any day.

The final program for Iggy and the StoogesIN THE HANDS OF THE FANS is expected to release on DVD, BluRay, digital download and broadcast by early 2011. All contestants will receive a special offer to purchase the film early along with some exclusive value added content.

What's the deal with the redhead in (at least) 7 pictures? Is she someone famous.

I think that redhead is Sarah Polley.

"In related news, Barney's New York will soon start selling Iggy Pop t-shirts that are part of the Archive 1887 collection..."

$58 for a t-shirt would be much better spent on a 10 oz. container of imported hummus.

Wow....tshirts for $48 & $58. To be worn soon by folks who have no clue who the artists are. great

^^ Why do you care? Live you life, they'll live theirs, and we can all meet in the middle for a hummus party.

Why would they name the line Archive 1887? Is that a reference to the year 1887? I know Iggy looks like he could've been born back then and all but its still the wrong century. Either way, those shirts going to be the most expensive cum rags I've ever invested in.

hey iggy, where the fuck is the NYC date? Nothing like seeing an incredible band among people who got in the show for free cause they gamble a lot, or some dirty jersey douche bag who stumbled into the show for god knows what reason...anyway if there is no nyc date, gotta make my way to A.C. see ya then Iggy.....

I wanna shop at the Eaton Centre!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 12:28 PM

Is that girl who features in eight thousand photos here a member of the Stooges? If not, one picture would suffice.

Posted by LKJ | July 22, 2010 12:29 PM

P.S. For god's sake, I selfishly wish they'd book a second Chicago show so I wouldn't miss what's probably my final chance to the see them. Of course, booking their first one in the worst venue in town, the Aragon Ballroom, ensures it won't sell out because the place holds 18,000,000,000 people (not to mention that its acoustics render all amplified sound indecipherable).

"ATP is so lame this year!"

so book your own festival and see how many people don't come out to see whatever dogshit bands you like...
